With the high variability of fuel prices, taking public transportation is a cost‐effective and environmentally friendly way to get around. If you are traveling outside Allegheny County, this brochure provides information on how to use public transportation to get you to your destination. TRAVELING BY BUS If you live in Southwestern Pennsylvania, there may be a bus company or transit agency that serves your community and connects with Port Authority service to and from Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland. All regional buses serve Penn Station on Port Authority’s East Busway in Downtown Pittsburgh. Beaver County, Butler County, Mid‐Mon Valley, Fayette County, New Castle and Washington City transit authorities operate to and from Downtown Pittsburgh. Connections to Oakland are available via Port Authority’s 61 and 71 series buses along Fifth Avenue in Downtown. Direct service to and from Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland from Westmoreland County is available throughout the day. Please contact Westmoreland County Transit Authority for more information. If these bus companies do not provide service to your area, you may contact Greyhound, Fullington Trailways, Megabus or Mountain Line for more extensive service around Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. TRAVELING BY TRAIN Amtrak provides service between Pittsburgh, Harrisburg,
Philadelphia, and New York City via the Pennsylvanian. Trains
depart daily from Pittsburgh at 7:30 a.m. and are scheduled to
arrive from the east at 8:05 p.m.*
Train service from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh, Cleveland
and Chicago is provided by Amtrak’s westbound Capitol
Limited. Westbound trains are scheduled to arrive daily in
Pittsburgh at 11:48 p.m. and depart at 11:59 p.m.*
Train service between Chicago and Cleveland to Pittsburgh
and Washington, D.C. is provided by Amtrak’s eastbound
Capitol Limited. Eastbound trains are scheduled to arrive
daily in Pittsburgh at 5:05 a.m. and depart at 5:20 a.m. *

GETTING TO THE STATION Greyhound operates from the Grant Street Transportation Center. The center is located at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 11th Street in Downtown Pittsburgh. The Amtrak Station is located directly across Liberty Avenue from the Grant Street Transportation Center. Port Authority’s East Busway Penn Station is located next to the Amtrak Station. Most regional buses will drop off at Stop A and pick up at Stop D at Penn Station. Westmoreland Transit buses will drop off at Stop D and pick up at Stop A. Megabus operates from 10th Street near Penn Avenue at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. To get to these locations from Oakland, you may take a Port Authority bus Downtown from any inbound stop along Forbes Avenue near Carnegie Mellon University or any inbound stop along Fifth Avenue near Pitt and Carlow universities. After boarding your bus in Oakland, see the instructions below for walking directions for the given routes. 61A‐61B‐61C‐61D‐71A‐71B‐71C‐71D Get off on Sixth Avenue at Bigelow Square, continue down Sixth Avenue to Grant Street, turn right on Grant Street and continue north on Grant Street to the transportation center, Amtrak or East Busway Penn Station. 67‐69 Get off on Fifth Avenue at Ross Street, continue down Fifth Avenue to Grant Street, turn right on Grant Street and continue north on Grant Street to the transportation center, Amtrak or East Busway Penn Station. If you want to get to any of these stations from any other area in the region, you may take any Port Authority bus or T into Downtown; most routes are a short walk from these locations. To access Penn Station stops A, B, C or D, please use designated pedestrian crosswalks. Please see the map on the opposite side for additional assistance.
TRAVELING BY PLANE Port Authority provides regular bus service between Oakland, Downtown Pittsburgh, Robinson Towne Center and the Pittsburgh International Airport via 28X Airport Flyer. 28X starts on Forbes and Morewood avenues near Carnegie Mellon University in Oakland and picks up at all inbound stops along Forbes Avenue from Morewood Avenue to Dithridge Street and Fifth Avenue from Tennyson Avenue to Craft Avenue. Commuting or Traveling? Downtown 28X bus stops are located on Seventh Avenue at Smithfield Street and along Liberty Avenue at Tito Way, Fifth Avenue and the Wyndham Grand Hotel. 28X operates seven days a week and departs Oakland and Downtown Pittsburgh approximately every 30 minutes. Travel time to the Airport from Oakland is approximately one hour. Travel time from Downtown Pittsburgh to the Airport is approximately 40 minutes.
