Saint Angela Merici,
Foundress of the Company of St. Ursula (1540).
The first teaching order of women to be established in the Church-was born on March 21,
1470 in Desenzano, Italy. She began to train a
select few of her companions in a kind of novitiate. Twelve of them came to live with her in a
house she took near the church. Two years
later twenty-eight women consecrated themselves with her to the service of God. St. Ursula
was chosen as the patroness of this new group.
In early January she was taken ill and in 1540
died on the twenty-seventh. In 1807 St. Angela
was canonized.

CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION
Parish Religious Education: Classes are available for children 3yrs-8th grade, High School Confirmation Prep and RCIC
(Rite of Christian Initiation for Children). The Diocese requires that students making sacraments must have two consecutive years of religious education before receiving the sacrament.
Vacation Bible School: We are in the planning stages for VBS 2016! We are putting together the core team who helps
plan the different sessions including crafts, music, story time, and games. If you are interested in being part of the
“team” please contact the Parish Religious Ed Dept., at 853-0135.
If you are not receiving PRE emails that occasionally are sent during the year, please add
[email protected] to your email address list. This will ensure that your family receives any sacramental
or inclement weather closing, etc. info! If you haven’t received any emails please first check your spam or junk folders;
if that isn’t the issue please email [email protected] so we can make sure your email is in the system
correctly.
High School Youth Group
Come join us each Wednesday night from 6:30-8:30
PM in the gym for Encounter. Night consists of
games, food and small group discussions. All 9th -12th
grade students are welcome!
ADULT FAITH FORMATION
Have you been coming to Mass and have questions about the Catholic Faith? Join us on Thursday evenings
and learn what it means to be a Catholic. You will get to know people just like you who are exploring their
faith and on the path to becoming fully initiated. The meetings offer insight into Bible teachings, what Mass
is all about, the Eucharist, the Virgin Mary and much more. RCIA gives you the opportunity to ask all of
your questions about the church in an open and honest environment. A new group is about to begin. Text or
call Andy McNutt at (901) 486-5199 or email [email protected] for more information.

Fostering Stewardship as a Way of Life
Sacrificial Giving Summary 2015-2016
In our daily lives, we manage our family and work
responsibilities. But to become occupied with
these important matters to the exclusion of the
need of others outside our home or work, is a
mistake we could carry into eternity.

Jubilee Year of Mercy
January 24, 2016
Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
When he announced this Jubilee Year of Mercy,
Pope Francis highlighted today’s Gospel episode, in
which Jesus proclaims in his hometown synagogue
his Spirit-anointed mission to fulfill the promises of
the prophet Isaiah. Jesus’ mission then, says Pope
Francis, is our mission now as Jesus’ disciples this
Jubilee Year of Mercy: to bring glad tidings to the
poor, liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the
blind, freedom to the oppressed, and to proclaim a
year acceptable to the Lord, a year of God’s mercy.
Pope Francis challenges us to translate Jesus’
mission to contemporary needs: to console by word
and deed those materially or spiritually poor, to
liberate those bound by modern society’s new forms
of slavery, to open the eyes of those blinded by their
own self-interest, and to restore human dignity to
all those from whom it has been stolen. To act with
mercy in a spirit of joy!

CAN CATHOLICS BE CREMATED? In 1963 the Vatican
lifted the ban on cremation. It is now an acceptable
practice for Catholics. In 1997, the Vatican approved new
liturgical norms allowing for the cremated remains to be
present at a funeral Mass and the remains are to be treated
with the same reverence as a whole body in a casket.
Spreading the cremated ashes is still forbidden.
