Comprising the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park, the Fine Arts Museums of
San Francisco are the largest public arts institutions in the City of San Francisco and are among the largest art museums in
the United States.
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have rendered over a century of public service in the arts, and it is its mission to
extend and enhance that service well into the 21st century. The Fine Arts Museums continue to serve as one of the
premier public institutions in the western United States, existing to provide its community and region with high quality
exhibitions, programs, education and outreach, and to care for San Francisco's esteemed art collection.

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco: Educational Programs & Community Outreach
Families with Children
Families with children can choose from a wide variety of programs specifically designed for them including summer camps, free Saturday art classes
or hands-on art making activities designed by the Museums' artist-in-residence. Programs include Art After School and Artist Studio for Families
and Children.
Resources for Educators
The Education Department at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco provide a wide variety of resources, events and written materials for
educators planning visits to the Museums with their students. Below you will find rich source material with which to prepare yourself and your
students to visit the Museums, including teacher workshops, special events, and temporary exhibition resources.
K–12 Students
The Fine Arts Museums' School Programs enable students to make connections and develop an understanding of art in both creative and historical
contexts. The programs offer a vast array of experiences ranging from independent viewing to facilitated visits with docents, museum artists, poets
and the Museum Ambassadors. Programs include class visits, curriculum-supported visits, Museum Ambassadors, Poets in the Galleries, and
Children’s Theater.
College Programs
College programs at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco focus on artistic enrichment, art history perspectives, studio art, and performing arts
that highlight a specific time period. Current programs include Collections Research, Docent Tours for College Groups, Sketching in the Galleries,
Art History, and New Generations Student Showcase Evening.
Docents
Docents at the museum facilitate learning by helping audiences of all ages understand and enjoy the permanent collections and special exhibitions,
and by engaging visitors in interactive experiences that give them a new appreciation of the visual arts.
Organ Concerts
The Legion of Honor’s Skinner organ is the world’s only indoor/outdoor organ. View extraordinary art as you listen to a free concert every Saturday
and Sunday at 4 p.m., except when the museum is closed.
FRAME
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is a member of the French Regional and American Museum Exchange (FRAME). Founded in 1999, FRAME is
a formal collaboration of museums in twelve cities in France, twelve museums in the United States and one associate member in Canada. FRAME
serves as a catalyst for cultural exchange between France and the United States. Thanks to this unique consortium, extraordinary collections are
placed at the service of an ever-wider public on both sides of the Atlantic. In these ways, FRAME serves the cultural needs of each country and
educates a constituency of great size, breadth and distribution.

Friday Nights at the de Young include a mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations,
special performances, hands-on art activities and exhibition tours. Each evening has a unique theme and ties in with the special exhibitions and
permanent collections at the de Young. Local artists conduct drop-in workshops, debut new commissions, display their art in the Kimball Education
Gallery, and take part in artist/curator conversations about the creative process.
The de Young Artist Fellows program allows art fellows to work onsite at the de Young, sharing their ideas, works in progress, collaborative
projects, finished artworks and final productions with museum visitors and community members.
de Young Artist Studio
Every month the museum invites artists to install and demonstrate their art form at the de Young. This interactive program enables visitors to meet
artists and gives the artists an opportunity to work with the public. Artists working in various media are encouraged to apply.
The de Young dYinterpretations is a museum app, which allows participants to go behind the scenes and experience the featured
artist's perspective with live music and interviews that celebrate the de Young. Audiences can watch artists install their work, enjoy music inspired
by the museum collection, and hear from the
artists themselves.
