WORLD KIDNEY DAY ACTIVITIES OF THE TURKISH
SOCIETY OF NEPHROLOGY ( 11 MARCH 2010)
The Turkish Society of Nephrology (TSN) has undertaken so far the following steps to
observe the WORLD KIDNEY DAY on 11 March 2010 to raise public & medical community
awareness for it:
 Starting from 8 March 2010, the World Kidney Day was announced on TSN official
website (www.tsn.org.tr) and National & Regional TV Channels.
 A press bulletin was sent various national newspapers to be used as baseline material for
their coverage of the World Kidney Day on their 11 March 2010 issues or news.
 Between 8- 14 March 2010, four TV spots about hardworking kidneys, chronic kidney
disease, hypertension and diabetes were advertised on national and regional TV
Channels.
 A press meeting & breakfast was organized at Istanbul Hilton Hotel on 10 March
2010.
 In order to raise public awareness about CKD, diabetes and hypertension, brochures
and pamphlets were distributed to all Nephrology Divisions of universities and
hospitals in Turkey.
 Two internet banners were shown between 8-14 March 2010 on www.ntvmsbc.com.
 A banner entitled “Protect Your Kidneys" was carried by football players before
football league matches on 12,13 and 14 March 2010.
 A meeting entitled “The Effects of Hypertension and Diabetes on Kidney Health
and Suggestions for Solutions” was jointly organized by the TSN, Turkish Kidney
Foundation, Turkish Hypertension and Kidney Diseases Society and Turkish
Diabetes Association in Istanbul. It took place on Thursday 11 March 2010 within the
framework of the World Kidney Day. Prof. Dr. Turgay Arinsoy, Secretary General of
the TSN, participated as speaker on behalf of TSN.
 The Turkish Society of Nephrology, Anatolia Kidney Foundation, the Society of
Endocrinology & Metabolism of Turkey and the Turkish Hypertension and
Kidney Diseases Society jointly organized a meeting entitled “ Protect Your Kidney
by Controlling your Blood Glucose and Blood Pressure” on Thursday 11 March
2010 at Ufuk University in Ankara. Prof. Dr. Kenan Ates, TSN Council Member,
participated as invited speaker.
 On 11 March 2010, pamphlets and brochures prepared by Anatolia Kidney
Foundation & TSN were distributed to public from booths of Ankara CEPA
Shopping Mall. TSN&AKF organized free public screening of blood glucose and
blood pressure at this shopping mall.
 An article in Turkish by Prof. Dr. Kamil Serdengecti entitled -Turkish Society of
Nephrology and World Kidney Day- appeared in the WKD 2010 special issue of the
Turkish Society of Nephrology’s official Journal: Turkish Nephrology, Dialysis and
Transplantation.
 Between 09-16 March 2010, some members of TSN appeared on various National
TV and Radio Channels for interviews on CKD, Hypertension, Diabetes and the
meaning and purpose of World Kidney Day.
