DID YOU KNOW
…That Manheim Township is a Municipal Separate
Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) community? This simply
means that stormwater runoff in the Township is regulated
by permit under the over sight of the Pennsylvania
Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
DEP has issued the Final Draft of the Permit Application
(FDPA) for the next permit cycle. In an effort to meet the
new Chesapeake Bay cleanup requirements issued by
the Environmental Protection Agency, the FDPA provides
a list of possible projects that Manheim Township
must consider implementing. Listed as TMDL Control
Measures, the list includes the following:
• Establish and Protect Riparian Forest Buffers –
restore vegetated buffer areas.
• Disconnection Program – disconnect impervious
areas from your regulated small MS4 system.
• Tree Planting – plant trees within the area that
drains to the regulated small MS4.
• Construct Recharge/Infiltration Facilities.
• Stormwater Basin Retrofits – naturalize or modify
for extended detention and/or modify basins for
increased infiltration.
• Restore stream banks – restore and/or stabilize
degraded and eroded stream banks.
• Establish Green Infrastructure at facilities owned
by the municipality and that drain to the regulated
small MS4.
• Develop and implement additional provisions
to address TMDL’s or a separate MS4 TMDL
Stormwater Management Ordinance.
• Participate in an approved Trading and Offset
Program.
You can view the Final Draft Application on the Township’s
website at www. manheimtownship.org. Click on

emnants of steel from the World Trade Center, which was destroyed
during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, have been collected
and are being stored in an aircraft hangar at New York’s JKF International
Airport. These artifacts have been made available to select public entities
for the purpose of paying tribute to the civilians and first responders who
lost their lives during the attacks.

Many residents and businesses already have been added to
the system from publicly available White and Yellow Pages
information. But this listing only provides a single contact phone
number. People with unlisted phone numbers, or those whose
primary phone number is a cell phone or VoIP, must provide their
contact information if they wish to receive these alerts.
Registration is handled by visiting https://www.sctfpa.org/scalert.php. This site will guide you through the registration process.
People who wish to receive alerts on phone numbers other than
the number listed in the White or Yellow Pages, and those people
who would like to receive alerts via email, SMS, TDD/TTY, etc.,
will also need to register.
Since the South Central Alert service uses mapping to identify the
locations where alerts will be sent, you may also register up to
five different locations for which you would like to receive alerts.
Remember, if we cannot reach you, we cannot alert you.
For additional information, and to view frequently asked questions
with regards to this new emergency notification service, visit

Manheim Township and Emergency Management Agencies
throughout the South Central Task Force (SCTF), which includes
Lancaster and the counties of Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin,
Franklin, Lebanon, Perry and York, are implementing a new
emergency notification service. This service will allow residents
and businesses in the eight county areas to be notified of an
emergency situation and important alert messages in a variety of
ways, including on their cell phones, home and work phones, by
text messaging and email.
