MEMORIAL DISC GOLF
TOURNAMENT
Rob Chandler
KFC’s Col. Sanders Memorial Disc Golf
fundraising tournament was a huge triumph! We just
had our annual meeting and KFC got a big round of
applause for what y'all have done for us.
Despite low turnout, KFC’s donation of food,
prizes and hole sponsorship is a testament to KFC’s
dedication to the communities fortunate enough to
be served by them.

LORDY, LORDY,
DEBBIE’S… BIRTHDAY!
DEBBIE
Sharon Brown
Sharon Tucker
DOUBLE TROUBLE IN
COLUMBIA!
Debbie Follis, JRN Accounting Supervisor,
has recently had several milestones: 30 years with
JRN, her first grandbaby, and her __ birthday.
Letha Beatty (above left) helps her hold her cake,
but the entire Accounting staff put together an
office-filling tribute for her, because she deserves
it! CONGRATULATIONS, DEBBIE!
There was a warrant issued for Sharon
squared. It stated they were being locked up, for
good. Both charged with having a big heart.
Sharon Brown (Marketing) and Sharon
Tucker (Payroll) turned themselves in at high
noon on December 5, 2006. The Maury County
MDA Lock-Up event was held at Legend’s
Restaurant. After being force-fed appetizers and
beverages, they were released on bail. Some
contributors asked if more money was paid could
they be kept in lock up. We are sure they were
joking. Or were they?
Thanks to all of you who supported us in
this worthy cause.
Sharon Brown, JRN Marketing

“I recently visited my parents in Lynchburg,
VA and went to your Wards Road Lynchburg,
VA KFC. A young man named Jonathan Pinn
took our order at the counter and he was
extremely courteous, pleasant, professional and
efficient. Jonathan brought our food to the table
and I must say I was truly impressed with him!
At 53 years of age I find that Customer Service is
understood by too few people. This young man
could teach a class and with his attitude I have no
doubt that he will succeed wherever he goes. As
for now you have a valuable employee who makes
returning to this KFC a certainty.”
Also at the Wards Road Lynchburg, VA
KFC, a drive-thru customer says, “The service is
fast, the employees are polite and pleasant and the
food is good. Blake is the most pleasant cashier
that I’ve ever encountered.”
In Roanoke, VA a dine-in customer of the
Williamson Road KFC comments; that Darryl
and everyone were nice and everything was very
good. A female employee kept the buffet stocked
with hot food.
Also in Roanoke, VA a carry out customer of
the Orange Avenue KFC says; the food at this
restaurant is always wonderful!
A dine-in customer of the Gloucester Court
Gloucester, VA store says Tom, the manager, is
very friendly and polite.
“Hey Ya’ll! Just wanted to say Thanks so
much for finally putting in a KFC in our little
town!” writes a dine-in fan of the Gulf Breeze,
FL KFC. “We only had Wal-Mart Deli chicken
locally and a Church’s about 15 miles farther
down the road. I love the original recipe chicken;
however my daughter wishes you could make the
chicken tenders as good. Keep up the good work –
Go Gulf Breeze!”
Another dine-in fan of the Gulf Breeze, FL
KFC writes, “We visited your new store in Gulf
Breeze weekly for your buffet and carry out and
we have found the entire staff to be courteous,
friendly and caring. Today, Thomas and, I believe,
the Manager, Erin really stood out. Thomas was
especially kind to some seniors who came in. The
manager was in constant motion checking on
everything and assisting her staff. The inside and
outside grounds are well taken care of. The buffet
is always a great choice because the food is fresh.
Congratulations to your staff and management
team.”
At the Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL
store a drive-thru customer says the employees are
4
very fast and accurate and greet customers
properly.
“The service at this location was very good
and although crowded the line moved quickly and
the food was hot and delicious!!” writes a carry
out guest of the N. 9th Avenue Pensacola, FL
restaurant.
Also at the N. 9th Avenue Pensacola, FL
restaurant, a drive-thru guest says Art provides
excellent service.
“What a change from the normal fast-food
mentality!” writes a drive-thru customer of the
Milton, Florida KFC. “J.V. was extremely
outgoing and professional from the moment his
voice was heard over the speaker. His laugh was
infectious and his demeanor one of the kindest
and most respectful I have ever encountered in a
drive-thru. He was incredibly gracious and
anticipated every need. I spoke to the manager,
Yolanda, and she was as courteous, professional
and attentive to her staff. The food was Awesome!
They deserve recognition and we will continually
visit.”
The Dexter, MO store had a dine-in guest
say, “The facility was clean, the employees were
nice and the product was good. Michael the
Manager was extremely nice and customer
friendly. I had stopped visiting the location but
will resume visiting this store.”
“I am Grateful that Erica found and returned
my wallet with all items inside” states a dine-in
guest of the Moffat Mobile, AL KFC. “Thanks
Erica!” from Jack Hager, RGM.
A carry-out customer of the Foley, AL store
compliments the quality of the food; he has
consistently received on every visit. He also
expressed appreciation for the separated
compartments on the carry-out containers and the
immaculate condition of the restaurant.
A drive-thru customer of the Apalachee
Tallahassee, FL store, said, “The food is good
and fresh and the customer service is great.”
“Great Job Team!!!!” from David Jones, Area
Manager.
“I want to commend Shandricka and Dorothy
for their excellent customer service” states a
carry-out customer of the Dawson Rd. Albany,
GA KFC.
The Tanglewood Roanoke, VA restaurant
had a drive-thru patron say, “Jimmy, the cashier,
was very patient, polite and provided exceptional
customer service.”

Disc Golf Continued from page 1
All in attendance enjoyed KFC original
recipe with biscuits and sides for lunch.
Extremely fitting for the remembrance of
Harlan Sanders and the dynasty he began.
Participants also received a coupon for a
free 2 pc. meal as a large part of the player’s
package. The $400.00 donation to the event
will provide for a hole sponsorship (consisting
of a tee-box with signs and a Disc Golf
basket) on the Gator Links course at the
PJC/UF Milton, FL campus. KFC’s Name
and logo will appear on the tee-sign and
basket as infinite gratitude for their generosity.
Thousands of players every year will know
how special KFC is to Disc Golf in the area.

SANTA SLEIGHS IN MANCHESTER
Christmas we had a big party. Here are some of our kids and grandkids at our party. Santa is Brad
Fann. They own Fann Salvage Yard, and he plays Santa all over Manchester for schools and needy kids.
They have a helicopter deliver him and he gives all kinds of nice gifts for them. This is something his
dad, Gaylen Fann, started years ago and he died last year, so they do this in honor of him.

SALEM ON THE BALL!
It is nice to read such
great comments (see left)
about my fellow team
members in a world that
seems to not put the
customer in their right
place, "First"!
Thanks to the team
members listed that where
on duty and made this
company happy. I bet we
get any future business as
well.
Thanks again,
Marty Wall,
Area Manager
NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR 3
They have started a building in front of the
new Wal-Mart in Covington, TN. I heard last
night it was going to be a Popeye’s. I will check
to make sure it is but if it is, this town of 12,000
won’t support 3 chicken places. KFC isn’t
going anywhere so, - Sorry Church’s.
Ruth Davis, Area Manager
NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR 300
Smithfield Packing Company may be
laying off as many as 300 employees with
plans to close its processing plant in
Smithfield, VA.
“Those jobs will be moved or eliminated
or automated,” said Dennis Pittman, speaking
for Smithfield Packing.

WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
“This KFC is a model location and one we
will visit whenever we get the opportunity,”
writes a carry-out customer of the Massaponax
Fredericksburg, VA store. “I was with my 10
year old daughter and my 85 year old mom and
was confused with the many choices; but the
young gentleman assisted us with patience and
was very nice. Although it was very busy, all
the KFC staff was pleasant and professional in
the mist of the commotion. They seemed
genuinely happy and gave excellent customer
service. Great Job on coaching the Massaponax
KFC. We went back the next day on our way
home to Washington and again received
excellent service; this time at the drive-thru.”
“Nice Job Tommy and Team!” from Jack
Hager, RGM.
A drive-thru customer of the Marion, VA
KFC reports; the female employee working the
drive-thru was very nice.
“I had been hearing Happy Holidays all
week but after paying for my order at KFC/LJS
it was wonderful to hear ‘Have a Merry
Christmas.’ Thanks!” writes a drive-thru
customer of the Timberlake KFC/LJS
Lynchburg, VA restaurant.
The Gloucester Court Gloucester, VA
store had a carry out customer to write;
“Amanda is very nice and professional.”
The Wards Rd. Lynchburg, VA
restaurant had a drive-thru patron say; the
female cashier was very friendly and efficient
and provided great service.
A drive-thru customer of the Concord #3
Concord, NC store states, “Michael is an
excellent worker.”
A carry-out customer of the Kannapolis,
NC restaurant writes, “I would like to
compliment employee Kimber because she was
most efficient, friendly and professional. I had a
large order and she had to have livers and wings
cooked and she made every effort to package
the food at the same time so that all of the sides
were kept hot. I observed her serving other
customers with the same Exceptional customer
service!”
“The employee in the drive-thru was great,
had a great smile and was very nice to me and
my husband. She had the perfect attitude to
make us come back to the drive-thru or to dinein. Great Job!!” writes a drive-thru customer of
the River Ridge Ashville, NC KFC.
Continued in next column
This year’s annual JRN Managers Meeting
will be held April 9, 10 &11 at the same place it
was last year, the Music Road Hotel and Inn, 303
and 314 Henderson Chapel Rd. Pigeon Forge,
TN. Last year the theme was “It’s About Time.”
We’re looking for suggestions on themes and
ideas for this year. One idea proposed is that the
meeting focus on Cheers (things to cheer about)
and Challenges (things to cheer about when they
are accomplished). What’s your idea? Send your
responses to this newsletter, address and email on
back.
Commendations Continued from 1st column
“This KFC is probably the best I have ever
visited in my area. The crew was fast and
friendly and the manager really helped me decide
what I wanted; he actually saved me a couple of
dollars. I would like you to recognize the great
work the management and crew are doing”
writes a dine-in guest of the White Horse
Greenville, SC KFC.
The Bristol, TN restaurant had a dine-in
customer to write; “My wife and I visit all KFC
stores and we eat out every night and I would
like to tell it like it is. The Bar was great, full and
hot. The tables, the floor and the restrooms were
clean. The Associates were very nice and my
wife and I would give this KFC a 5 Star. The
young ladies need a big pat on the back; trust
me, they do.”
“The entire staff was wonderful, very
friendly, courteous and knowledgeable of their
products. Please recognize them as soon as
possible” states a drive-thru customer of the
Strawberry Plains Knoxville, TN KFC.
“Mike was extremely pleasant and provided
excellent service. The chicken littles should be
brought back” states a carry-out customer of the
Maryville, TN store.
A dine-in customer of the Martin, TN
restaurant states, “Jesse gave outstanding
customer service while she performed a number
of other tasks in the store.”
“I showed up looking for a snack right
before closing and they did not have boneless
wings prepared; but gladly cooked some. Most
restaurants would not have been so courteous. I
was very pleased with my experience and I will
visit frequently and recommend this location to
everyone I know. Great Job!” writes a drive-thru
customer of the Hickory Hollow Antioch, TN
restaurant.

Beginning this issue the JRN Connection
will go out as a periodical. This means lower
postage rates, but also means slower deliveries.
For some of the closer addresses, this won’t
mean much, but some may experience a delay of
a week or longer. Have patience and, within a
month or so, an adjusted production schedule
should make up for this.
VERY IMPORTANT!
We no longer have a P.O. Box, so send mail to
the 209 West 7th St. address. Also, if addressing a
letter to someone here, make sure their name is not
the first line of the address. Make sure JRN Inc is
on the first line. Otherwise you will confuse the
government robots. Nothing is dumber than a
government robot.
The guy on the right is Bill Evans, former
KFCC VP of Franchising. The guy on the left
is…Who? Here’s a hint, he’s been with KFC for
36 years. If you guess who it is, I bet you still
won’t get his name right. Mail or email your
guess to the address or email on the right. First
prize is bragging rights. Second prize is first
prize.
JRN Connection is published monthly.
Send photos, articles, letters, etc. to:
(please take note of the address change)
