guably the most famous document in
history. These words that begin the
United States Constitution are part of
the document that changed the world
forever. Citizens made a decision
that government was by and for the
people. I would like to believe that
Klinger is of the same ilk.

Our company begins and ends with
dedicated people. From Tom Novak
who started with Klinger over 30
years ago to Frank Tuccy, an iron
worker who recently joined our op
erations in Phoenix, every person is
important and every person makes a
difference.
In a given day you might encounter
one or two people in the Klinger or
ganization. I will somewhat randomly
mention some of these people who
make coming to work an enjoyable
endeavor each and every day.
Whether you are an owner or a sub
contractor, these are some of the peo
ple who make Klinger a great organi
zation and a company that you will
enjoy working with. Keep in mind
that I wish I could mention everyone,
but the ones I do mention are typical
of the wonderful people at Klinger.
Marisela Gutierrez Valdemar, who
started with us five years ago and
runs our HR. She loves helping peo
ple with their 401k’s, insurance and
other benefits.
Rene Byer, who came on board 12
years ago and does a great job with
accounts payable and receivable.
Mostly she loves helping people get
things done.
Shirley Anderson who joined us
because she liked how we treat peo
ple, our commitment to the commu
nity and the way we take care of busi
ness. She does a wonderful job as
Business Development Manager.
Project Managers Adam Leyba and
Mark Maestas are both lifetime
New Mexicans. They both have been
involved in some of our most amaz
ing projects. Both graduated from
UNM, are raising families and love
what they do. They have each been
with Klinger for more than 10 years
and are great with people. They also
enjoy making the building process
fun.

Rob Ridenour was born in Frank
furt, Germany because his father was
stationed there while in the U.S.
Army. Rob has over 30 years of ex
perience and is notorious for plan
ning a successful project that comes
in ahead of schedule and under
budget.
Antonio Trujillo and Joe Aguirre
are both native New Mexicans and
are among our newest superinten
dents. They would run through a
brick wall to deliver projects on time
and of the highest quality.
Hilda Toledo started with Klinger
as a Laborer over four years ago and
is now in the ABC Carpenter Ap
prenticeship Program. She is from
near Cuba, NM. and exemplifies the
hard working individuals we have in
the field.
Alfredo Ramirez started seven plus
years ago with Klinger as a cement
finisher. He came to work from
Zacatecas, Mexico and considers
Klinger to be his new family. He is
always a pleasure to work with and to
be around.
Jimmy Holder started with the com
pany in 2007 as a laborer. He is origi
nally from Hot Springs, NM, but has
lived in Albuquerque for 40 years. He
shares that he enjoys working for
Klinger and appreciates working hard
and smart.
Carl Benward was transferred to
Albuquerque with the Air Force
from California. He left the military
in 1994 and was hired as a laborer by
Klinger (Glen Kitchens) the very
next day. He has been with Klinger
for 18 years and is now a multi
skilled Master Craftsman.

Jason Tabbert is from South Da
kota and moved to Albuquerque to
work for Klinger in 1998. He has
now established his own family; Rita,
Jacob and James. He was ready and
willing to go out to work in Arizona
as our main General Foreman. He
has been a key asset to the Ocotillo
project and Klinger.

Brothers, Angel, Ramon and
Vicente Ramirez started working
for Klinger 1999. They are originally
from Durango, Mexico. Both went
through the apprenticeship program
at ABC and now are Craft Foreman.
We have several Ironworkers that
commute 6 1/2 hours from El Paso
to the Arizona jobsite on their long
weekends. They are Juan Escajeda,
Carlos Gonzalez, Marco Escajeda,
Carlos Nevarez, and Jesus Barron
are all from El Paso, Texas. We ap
preciate their commitment to Klinger
and the project.
The dedication of Klinger employees
runs deep. We have over 250 people
working for us currently. I believe
each and every person cares and is
willing to do what it takes to com
plete an exceptional project for our
owners.

Award Season
Has Begun

The award season got off to a great
start with American Subcontractors
Association (ASA) naming St. Jude
Thaddeus Catholic Church as Project
of the Year under $5 million. ASA also
awarded Rob Ridenour as 1st Runner
up for Superintendent of the Year and
Klinger was awarded 1st Runner up
for General Contractor of the year.
Numerous projects have been submit
ted to NAIOP and ABC NM for
awards and we’ll discover if those pro
jects win in the fall. It’s always such an
honor when our projects and employ
ees are recognized by our local busi
ness community and the construction
industry with these awards.

Supporting Education is part of
United Way of Central New Mexico's
Community Fund. Their mission is to
prevent children from getting in trou
ble and to support their education
from preschool through graduation
and self sufficiency. Last year, 19 dif
ferent programs were provided funds
that helped approximately 15,000 indi
viduals. This includes the following:
• Support 300 homeless children in
the APS area with after school tutor
ing.
• Provide quality early childhood and
therapeutic services to children ex
periencing homelessness.
• Immerse 1,500 children in vigorous
movement classes to promote
healthy choices, teamwork and aca
demic achievement, improving fit
ness, nutrition and health knowledge
and skills and behavior.

Sandia National
Labs Building 840
Seismic Upgrades
Sandia Baptist Church
– Joel Loes
Justin Poff led a crew of ironwork
ers and carpenters to the successful
completion of the structural seismic
upgrades in building 840 in the tech
area of Sandia National Labs. As a
subcontractor to Engineering Con
structors Inc, Klinger returned to
SNL to push the project forward
and to facilitate an accurate and
complete structural overhaul to the
old manufacturing building, which
will now be built out as office space.
Upon substantial completion, the
thoroughness of Klinger’s work left
absolutely no items on the punch
list.
All steel was provided by Alstate
Steel, key subcontractors included
Pelletier Construction and JTC Inc.
Sandia Baptist
Legacy Church
– Joel Loes
Completed in early May, the 17,000
SF expansion to Sandia Baptist
Church ended as a much larger
project than it began. After the
success of the original scope of work
that completed in November 2011,
Klinger and Sandia Baptist put our
combined shared savings back into
the project to fund a 7,000 SF fit
out, including a commercial kitchen
in the Fellowship Hall; a shell space
was built as part of our original
contract. Joe Aguirre ran the
second phase project as a continua
tion of the original, with a smaller
crew and an equally aggressive
schedule. In early May, the church
began holding functions in the new
Fellowship Hall including wedding
receptions, fundraisers and meals for
the congregation, something that
they did not anticipate having the
ability to do for 5 10 years if it had
not been for the fantastic effort of
the construction team making the
second phase possible.

St. Stephen’s United
Methodist Church

Partnered with Robert Habiger of
D/P/S Architects, Klinger was
awarded another design build project
for St Stephen’s United Methodist
Church. The renovation to the PreK
Childcare and Family Therapy spaces
was designed and constructed by the
team in nine weeks. Superintendent,
Antonio Trujillo, played a big part
in meeting that schedule with a
hands on approach to the work that
helped to keep the budget tight and
progress moving forward faster than
the church anticipated. Bright and
vibrant colors were central to the
design intent of the church and the
execution did not fail. In walking

Shredder Project

With the completion of the struc
tural concrete work, Larry Gastian
has stepped in for Eli Gonzalez to
run the second phase, 3,300 SF
Motor House at Albuquerque
Metals. As a subcontractor to
Skarsgard Construction, Klinger is
managing the complete concrete,
structural and architectural package
of the new building. Set to partially
complete in early August, Klinger
will demobilize from the job while
the electrical contractor, Mosher
Enterprises, finishes powering up
the new state of the art metal shred
der installed by Albuquerque Metals.
When complete, Klinger will return
to aide Skarsgard Construction in
final inspections and a certificate of
occupancy.

Anesthesiology
– Joe Reed
Daryl Morrill wrapped up the multi
phased UNMH Anesthesiology
project in late March.
The project created administrative
offices for the Anesthesiology Depart
ment., upgraded a couple IT Rooms
and made room changes to the OR
storage and OR break room. Thanks
to Daryl and crews for completing the
project.

Set to begin in mid August, Johnny
Cooper and Jose Hernandez will
mobilize on the first of two phases to
renovate the Behavioral Health Unit at
Kaseman Hospital. The work will
include minor demolition of existing
partitions and casework and the build
back of new community areas, nurse
stations and a seclusion room. When
the work begins, the building team will
include OGB Millwork, Pelletier
Construction, Western States Fire
Protection, Lon Caster Plumbing and
Surge Electric with each phase com
pleting within five weeks.
Animal Humane
Association of NM

As the selected general contractor for
the Animal Humane New Mexico
project, Klinger has been involved in
the preliminary design and budget
process. In late February, the Board
of Directors approved the revised
master plan and budget. The purchase
of two additional lots resulted in an
increase in scope of work and budget
for this construction project.
This master planned project adds a
new 10,000 SF Building , which

In three mobilizations, Justin Poff is
leading a team including JTC Inc and
New Mexico Acoustics to perform a
complete refresh of the Tortilla Room
at Bueno Foods. Each mobilization
lasts one week and during that time
the building team will run two crews
to complete the work. All surfaces are
receiving new finishes including the
walls, floors and ceilings.
The first phase was a success with
nearly 50% of the work completed, the
second and third phases will follow
suit in mid August and early Septem
ber.

Santa Fe Animal
Shelter & Humane
Society Veterinary
Hospital & Clinic

Klinger began construction on the
new 10,186 SF Santa Fe Community
Veterinary Clinic and Animal Hospital
in late July. The Santa Fe Animal
Shelter is the largest animal shelter and
care facility in northern New Mexico,
which serves more than 10,000 lost,
stray, abandoned or injured animals
each year.
The $3.6 million clinic/hospital will be
state of the art and house exam
rooms, surgery suites, kennels, isola
tion, and employee areas. The plans
are in the final stage of permitting and
should be released the last week of
July 2012. Staging, utility location, and
fencing have begun. Construction will
begin when the permit is issued by
New Mexico CID.
The design team is lead by Trey
Jordan Architects. Major subcontrac
tors include Chaparral Electric, Rod
gers Plumbing, Mechanical Concepts,
OGB, Kenyon Plastering, and Pelletier
Construction. Art Candelaria will
supervise the project. Jessie
McGuinness and Rafael Castillo will
also be working on this project.

Building maintenance work continues
at Caterpillar. Gutter systems on the
existing facility were added. Bill
Barlow will supervise the receipt,
offload and placement of a 12,000
pound oven in the coming weeks. A
security vestibule will be added as part
of the security improvements in the
fourth quarter of this year.

McGuinness and Rafael Castillo for
doing a great job working around an
operating manufacturing facility. The
team has represented Klinger well and
as a result, we expect to continue
providing building maintenance to

Klinger is involved with a fast paced
design build process to install a sixty
foot silo which will hold calcium
carbonate for the manufacturing of
the mattresses. Scope of work will
consist of installing a foundation for
the silo and structural support for
the auger which will deliver the
material to two mixing tanks inside
the building. Daryl Morrill will be
leading this fast paced project as

must be met to get the new product

Diebold
– Brent Callahan
Work with Diebold is slowly starting
up again with relocation of several
ATM’s in the casinos throughout NM
for US Banks. Jose Hernandez is
doing a great job on the relocation of
these ATM’s, as coordination must
take place with casino management
and Diebold technicians since the
ATM’s contain currency.

terian Healthcare Facilities on a variety

Remodel
– Brent Callahan
Johnny Cooper and team have
started a remodel of OR 18 in
Presbyterian’s main hospital, which
is in a highly sensitive area as there
are other operating rooms which
must remain active during the con
struction process. Construction will
take place as patients will be in
surgery in adjacent rooms. This
room consists of installing roughly
14 tons of structural steel to support
the medical equipment and a total
removal and reinstallation of the
HVAC systems along with all new
finishes in the room. A lot of coordi
nation must take place with the
owner, their vendors and the design
team Dekker/Perich/Sabatini. Key
subcontractors and suppliers include
Southwest Iron Works, OGB,
Fairway, Western Commercial Glass,
Peyton Enterprises, Business Envi
ronments, TLC Plumbing, Metal
crafters and Surge Electric.

The Presbyterian Systems Office
Building Remodel is well underway
under the direction of Rob Ridenour.
Klinger was contracted to do the
interior demo under the first phase
while the construction drawings were
being finished and budgets finalized.
The 133,000 SF remodel consists of all
new finishes, added skylights, up
graded HVAC, plumbing and electrical
systems. Phase 2 of the project is
slated to be complete in mid October.
The final phase of this project in
cludes relocating existing occupants to
the second floor and finish remolding
approximately 5,000 SF of office
space. Great Job , Rob Ridenour,

Hector Ruiz, Martin Rivas, Jose
Rivas and Rogelio Perez.
Presbyterian Office Building
Vigil Architects. The new 86,000 SF
metal building facility is slated to be
complete by early spring 2013. Klinger
is honored to be a part of this great
project.
French Mortuary In
Rio Rancho
– Alan White
In May, Klinger was chosen by French
Mortuary to construct their new Rio
Rancho facility. Following a long and
challenging permitting process,
Klinger was finally able to break
ground on the first week of July. The
three acre site was once the right of
way for Unser Blvd. and still contains
easements for all types of public
utilities. These existing utilities have
made the earthwork and underground
utility work a challenging phase of this
project.
The Klinger team, lead by Superinten
dent Antonio Trujillo, recently placed
the building slab with integral color
and the combination wood and steel
structure will soon be going verti
cal. Thanks to Klinger employees
Juan Hernandez, Greg Guillen and
Matt Martinez for their great efforts
thus far on the project. Thanks also
to subcontractors Rodger’s Excavat
ing, Franklin’s Earthmoving, Sun
dance Mechanical and MCO Electric
for getting this project out of the

PNM Downtown
Tenant Improvement

In April, Klinger interviewed to
complete Public Service Company of
New Mexico’s headquarters building
renovation at 414 Silver Avenue in
Albuquerque. We were successful
and awarded PNM’s Phase I renova
tion which includes the complete
demolition and renovation of floors
10, 11 and 12. This is a fast track
project and will eventually include
renovating all 12 floors or 128,000
SF. The entire project is anticipated
to be complete by the end of Decem
Friedman Recycling
Facility

Klinger has been selected to construct
the new Friedman Recycle Facility in
the North Valley. Currently the project
is in the design phase with Claudio

BTI in Santa Fe
– Mark Maestas
Last month Klinger broke ground on
Bicycle Technologies International’s
new office and warehouse building in
Santa Fe’s, Rancho Viejo La Entrada
Commercial Complex. BTI is a design
build project consisting of a 9,992 SF
office and a 37,500 SF warehouse
building. Tom Novak started working
with BTI way back in 2008. BTI is a
wholesale supplier of bicycles and
bicycle parts. Chances are if you
purchased a bicycle part from your
local bicycle shop it came from them!
Joe Aguirre is leading the way on this
project. We anticipate construction
will be complete end of March 2013
and look forward to a safe and suc
cessful project.
