Shloka Recitation
Another academic session has come to an end. As is our custom, we take
over things in our stride and surge ahead confidently, towards new
challenges and greater achievements.
The year has passed by on a happy note by a succession of different
successful events, informative and colourful celebrations……
Students also staged the “Excellence Day” – „Spandan‟……. the new
dimension of Excellence and have made us all proud to see their all -round
personality development.
It is a matter of great delight to present second volume of news letter. It
provides an overall view of our accomplishments. It will be our constant
and continuous endeavour to be a caring and trusted partner to enable our
students to achieve their goals.

Field Visit
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
Holy places: With an aim to
“Joy to the World the lord has come”
is the song sung by every Christian,
for they believe that the „Savior‟
named Jesus Christ was born on this
holy day. It was colourfully exhibited
to every one of our tiny tots of
Nursery through a small skit at „The
Ashoka House‟. Children were very
curious to see the skit. They had
thoroughly enjoyed the carols sung by
their teachers for them. The special
effect of the whole party was
children‟s own Santa Claus jumping
and dancing with them. He also
distributed sweets to our tiny tots.

Diwali Celebration
The „festival of lights‟ was celebrated
with great zeal and enthusiasm at
Ashoka Universal School. Children
came in their beautiful attire to
participate in various activities. The
decorated Diyas and beautiful Diwali
cards exhibited their hidden talent.
Our Sr. K.G students showcased their
acting skills in the Ramayana skit and
gave the message of good over evil
which was followed by a graceful
dance. The students were made aware
of the importance of Diwali with the
help of a skit on Ramayana.
Blue day celebration

„Blue day‟ was a day of acquaintance
with blue colour. This event was
conducted on 6th December, 2010 with
great fun and fervour to instill and
implant the colour concept in the
minds of the tiny tots. The entire
„Ashoka
House‟
ambience
was
beautifully decorated with blue colour
all around and added to it, our tiny
tots made the programme more lively
and mesmeric by wearing beautiful
blue coloured clothes. To make the
programme look more charismatic and
to amplify the colour concept more
clearly, a slide show was presented by
the educators followed by some
interesting activities like colouring,
sponge painting, thumb painting and
collage.
Activity : „Puppet Show‟
To make teaching-learning process
more interesting, fun and lively, a
„Puppet
Show‟
was
organized
depicting the story of „Lion and
Mouse‟ and the students showcased
their talent by dramatizing the whole
story in front of everyone where they
proved to be really good actors. Thus,
the
learning
was
no
more
monotonous as it provided a lot of fun
and agility to the children. Puppet
shows and dramatization, help
children to acquire various skills like
listening and responding, and also
develop curiosity and imagination. It
also reminds us the famous quote:
“An example is better than a precept”

Colouring Competition
Various competitions were conducted
to
enable
the
students
to
compete both in academics as well as
in co-curricular activities so as to
enhance their hidden talent and
creativity. A colouring competition
with the theme of „Christmas‟ was
organized for the tiny tots of Jr.K.G on
3rd December, 2010 wherein children
took part in the event with a great
spirit and fun.
Clay Moulding Competition
Marvellous Market
On 5th October, 2010, „Ashoka
House‟ experienced a delightful
event wherein our tiny tots
were dressed up as vendors,
grocers, doctors etc. They were
even dressed as customers and
carried out the transactions of
the whole market and showed
their capability. They were
imparted the training to bargain
and buy the useful things
available in the market.
“Like buds blooming into a
beautiful flower, so is the
creativity of children that is
developed and put forth by their
own
imagination,
idea
and
creativity”.
Clay moulding competition was
organized for Sr. K.G section on
24thNovember,2010 at the „Ashoka
House‟ wherein maximum children
participated
with
great
enthusiasm. The clay objects
made by them portrayed their
creativity and imagination.
Dedicated Helpers
Helpers’ day activity was organized by the Jr.K.G
section of ‘Ashoka House’ to dedicate the respect and
love for our community helpers wherein the tiny tots
were dressed up in various costumes depicting our
helpers.
This activity gave the opportunity to each child to
showcase his/her confidence level and in turn made
them aware about the dedicated role played by our
community helpers.
Solo Dance Competition
Participation in competitions is the right
path to stimulate and encourage personal
growth and to provide a sense of
achievement among the children.
Ashoka House had organized a folk dance
competition on 5th October, 2010 for the
tiny tots of Sr. K.G wherein the kids rocked
the dance floor and grabbed the attention
of the audience by their outstanding
performances.
Singing Competition
Dated:18th December. 2010 venue: Shishu Vihar and Balak Mandir
School. The „humming bees‟ of Sr. K.G and Jr. K.G under the able
guidance of the Headmistress Mrs. Alvina Azaredo and Music Faculty Ms.
Madhavi Gajbhar and Jagruti Nagare had participated in the Inter School
Group Singing Competition wherein children from 21 schools of Nashik
took part in the event. It is indeed a matter of immense pleasure to
share that our melodious Nightingales ranked 1st among all the
participants and made the Ashokities feel proud. Inarguably, they are
the „Shining Stars‟ of tomorrow, who brought laurels and glory to our
school.

Mr. Lokesh Khandelwal
Mr. Lokesh Khandelwal is a co-founder of
Resonance with Mr. R.K. Verma.
After graduating from IIT-Kanpur and having
worked for few years with Infosys Technologies
and ABB Ltd., he switched to the field of education
that is to coach JEE aspirants.
He has worked with some of the leading IIT-JEE
coaching institutes at Kota and Delhi before cofounding Resonance.
He has patronized department of mathematics
since the inception of Resonance and is regarded
in high esteem by students for his excellent
teaching and sharp explanatory & analytical skills.
He has devised innovative ways to master the
tough sections of the subject and has gained
enormous respect from students. He always
makes students feel that they can conquer the
subject and teaches them ways to achieve their
desired results.

Buzzing student of Grade I, Master Rushil
Surana will be giving the 2nd level iiO exam
after securing 91.5 marks in the First level.
His final score in the First level is 91.886
while the Olympiad rank is 390.
A magnanimous Christmas celebration
Santa made his grand appearance on a scooter
and the children were thrilled! To the
accompaniment of fast paced music, he went
around the ground, showering gifts on the tiny
tots. The event ended with the distribution of
sweets to all children.

AUS Mathematician
Rahi Maheshwari of Grade IX-C bagged 1st prize
in Vedic Maths (Magic Maths) all over India.
Vedic Maths is actually the different
techniques of solving Maths. He solved 50 sums
in 3 min 41 seconds creating a record, which
were actually to be solved in 4 minutes.
Fencing Star
Ms. Shreya Shirwadkar of Grade VI from
the wonders of AUS Chandsi paved her way to
the 83rd position at the 33rd Fencing World
Championship, Wroclaw, Poland.
Ms. Purvi Khubchandani of Grade IX AUS
Wadala paved her way to the state level after
securing 2nd position at the Divisional level
Fencing Competition organized by the District
Sports Office on 20th October, 2010.

The Convener’s meeting for ICSE
and
ISC
examinations
was
conducted at Ashoka Universal
School. Principals of ICSE and ISC
School (Barnes, Fravashi Academy,
Wisdom High School, PPSA, Silver
Oak, Ryan International School, and
Orchid International School) of
Nasik attended it.
Mrs. Kumudi Aga- Principal of
Fravashi Academy was declared as
the new convener for ICSE exam
where as Mr. Sundar Gandikota,
Principal of Orchid will look into
ISC. Retd. Col. Subedar would be
the ICSE and ISC Inspector.
Indira Gandhi’s Birth

of India‟s most beloved and
adorable Prime Minister, Late
Smt. Indira Gandhi. A special
assembly was conducted to
commemorate the occasion.
The significance of the assembly
was the presentation of Martial
Art by the girls of 6th and 7th and
8th Grade to spread the
awareness
of
women
empowerment on the occasion of
the birth anniversary of the lady
who enriched the image of Indian
Woman in the eyes of the world.
A Noble Deed!
AUS lays emphasis not only on
education but also imbibes moral
sanskars (values) in them. During
their Excellence Day programme,
few students of 5th, 6th and 7th
grade drew live sketches of Picasso
and sold it to the audience, who
whole-heartedly appreciated their
skill.
On 18th Jan. 2011, the students had
the privilege of visiting „Rachana
Trust‟ on Gangapur Road, where
they donated the amount earned
through the sketches. It was a part
of awakening ethical values among
the kids. It was a place of solace,
solitude and sympathy in calm and
tranquil surroundings.
The visit to the Trust was an eye
opener for the young students to
the harsh realties of life. It also
made them realize that there may
be a limit to cure, but there is no
limit to care.

Educational Excursion to
Mumbai
10th and 11th students of AUS
visited Jehangir Art Gallery on the
31st of October 2010 under the
SUPW (Socially Useful Productive
Work) programme. They were
thrilled to see displays changing
exhibits by well known artists, the
popular cafe of Samovar, which is
reminiscent of the 70's socialist
culture. It also houses Natesans,
the country‟s oldest licensed
antique dealers.
They also visited The Prince of
Wales Museum (next to Jehangir
Art Gallery) which has been
renamed as the Chhatrapati
Shivaji
Maharaj
Vastu
Sangrahalaya. The Museum is
known for its three sections: Art,
Archaeology and Natural History.
The students witnessed some of
the rarest and ancient exhibits of
Indian
History
and
many
interesting artifacts from foreign
countries which they had only
heard of or read in the text books.
The collection of over 2000
miniature paintings from various
art schools of India encouraged
our students as well to take
painting as a profession.

In
the
competition,
Gayatri
Ramchandani of grade IV student
from Ashoka Universal School,
Chandsi bagged the Bronze medal
in the 21st State Level Skating
Competition held at Akola from
9th to 12th November, 2010 and kept
the flag of AUS flying high.
Ashokities
excelled
at
„The
Australian National Chemistry
Quiz 2010‟ bagging 8 higher
distinctions, 4 distinctions and 4
credits. Ankit Shah secured 99%
whereas Pratik Patil, Hrushikesh
Loya and Saloni Burad secured 93,
95 and 89 respectively. The
management
congratulated
these
students and wished them good
fortune. These students have now
become role models for the rest of the
Ashokites.

Celebration
'Spandan’…...the new dimension of Excellence
Excellence Day!
AUS celebrated their gigantic Excellence Day with more than 1350
participants on 7th Jan. and 8th Jan. 2011 at Dada Saheb Gaikwad Hall.
The ceremony was attended by the board members, corporate guest,
students, faculty & staff of AUS. Shri Biswajeet Mukherjee, Director.
AUS addressed the gathering with the year‟s on the rise annual report.
He wanted to make the people aware of the philosophy of AUS
education and shared the positive work their kids are doing. Students
were awarded for their outstanding performances throughout the year.
The dignitaries posed for a photo with the kids and really made them
feel special. This was followed by the keynote address by the
Chairman Shri Ashok Katariya who wished everybody a happy new
year and thanked them for making AEF 5 yrs old successfully. He then
presented the Statement of Purpose (SOP) for the audience and made
them aware that AUS is on the threshold of a new horizon .He advised
the students to excel in their chosen field of interest so that they become
national heroes. Chief Guest Shri Lokesh Khandelwal and Guest of
Honour Miss. Kavita Raut (Asian Games Bronze medalist in Running)
graced the occasion inspite of their busy schedule.
This was followed by “Spandan…” an exceptional, admirable
performance of AUS students, who took people on a rock on roll tour of
entertainment. The students gave a glimpse of Indian culture and Ethos
through Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Krishna Raas leela and a combination
of non stop Hip hop, Jazz, cartoon characters, Folk and contemporary
dances. Then the crowd got stunned to watch unbelievable gymnastic
and rope Malkhamb performances without a flaw by young Ashokites.
They could see the tiny tots engrossed in a flurry of ringing, clanging
and tapping their feet, with ribbon sticks in their miniature little hands
to the melodious harmony played. The witty toddlers even tried to
voice the notes and words of the ageless melodies. The crowd got
emotional after listening to the messages of our great national heroes
Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and few more names to add on
enacted by the students. „Save water, trees and earth‟ was the jingle of
the evening. Each song, act, dance had a concrete conceptual message
for the entire community. To add a little bit sparkle to 2011, the
students gave a fascinating ramp walk with self designed outfits and
jewelleries which will even envy the models of the world. It made the
people realize that though their kids were getting modern education,
Indian values held its head high in all the corners of the world. The
event was so enthusiastic that it made a tag line “Sustainable,
Memorable, Livable experiences for Nasik citizens”.

District level athletics tournament
held at Bhosala Miltary ground,
Nasik, on the 18th and 19th of
December 2010. The team of

Sairaj Magar won gold in 4 *100
meters relay, whereas Anand
Samdedia in shot-put and Ruhaan
Bhutada in 50 and 100 metres
sprint struck gold in under 14 & 10
category respectively. Sairaj Magar
not only snatched a medal in
running, relay but also in long and
high jump. Anurag Paithankar in
long Jump & Anand Samdedia in
high jump were also not far behind
with a bronze medal. The gold
medallions would be participating at
the state level competition.

Mrs. Apurva D. Jakhadi, a NASAHoneywell Educator and an Alumni of
Space Camp at NASA's Marshall Space
Flight Center & U.S. Space & Rocket
Center, Alabama, USA; was invited
at the Ashoka Universal School, Nashik
on 28th Dec. 2010 to deliver a lecture
on 'Space Science - Opportunities &
Prospects' at the school premises for
students of Std. IX.
She stated that 'Space and Rocket
Science has the highest level of
integration of all the branches of
Engineering and moreover it is the most
challenging area of today‟s technology'.
She
also shared
her
experiences
during the
Space
Camp
and
motivated the students to take up this
area for higher studies and make
successful careers in India or abroad.
She concluded that as a life member of
the 'National Space Society', Washington
D.C., she would like to work and
promote Space Science in this city of
Nashik, which she represented at the
Space camp at USA in June 2010.
Similarly, she thinks that the young
hard-working Nashikites can also get an
opportunity some day to lift-off from
NASHIK to NASA and that she would be
more than happy to guide them.

ma-pa champs visits Ashoka
Universal School.
Mugdha Vaishampayan, one of the
finalists in the championship of
Marathi Idea SA RE GA MA PA, visited
Ashoka Universal School for a
felicitation programme organized by
the school on the 19th of December
2010.
She is a perfect example to be a role
model for kids to take up their hobby
as a career. While interacting with
the students, she shared her
experience and journey of sa-re-gama-pa. Students through the medium
of a song asked her to give them some
showers of sunshine, in reply she too
answered with a song „bada natkhat
hai’ in her soothing voice.
She was also known as "Little
Monitor" for sa-re-ga-ma-pa and
Raigad Kanya in her native place
Konkan. During the course of the
programme, Mugdha was felicitated
with a momento of Ashoka.
Destination NASA for Ashokites
Ashoka Universal School has always given platform for new talent. It shows
them the horizon and gives them the necessary tools to go for it. A unique
School with a specific purpose where the student is given freedom to choose
the subject of their interest and excel in it. Students of AUS won 1 st and 2nd
prize respectively at the NASA Ames International Space Settlement
Competition and also attended the International Space Development
Conference held at Orlando, USA. The students submitted two exciting
projects on setting colonies in space.
To give more exposure, the school has sent a few students along with a
mentor to the first ever Annual National Conference on Space (NCS) and ISRO
exhibition to be held on 26th, 27th, 28th October 2010 at Panchkula, Haryana.
The objective was to give exposure to space enthusiastic students regarding
the various features of space technologies and achievements of ISRO. The
visit was aimed to create awareness about the fascinating field of „Space‟
and inspire the students to take up careers in ISRO. Projects like
communication satellites, remote sensing satellites (IRS), ISRO‟s Programme,
Satellite Launch Vehicles, Satellite Applications and Chandrayaan were
revealed to the students.

Poetry Competition in the
lap of Nature
The Sachin Tendulkar look alike of
Grade IV AUS, Chandsi, Nakul Pawar,
shone brightly on the athletics field at
Bhosala Military School, Nasik on
Christmas day 2010. He stood third in
100 mts. flat race all over Nasik and
made our school proud !
He has now qualified for the event at
the State Level. AUS, Chandsi wishes
the little achiever all the best !!!
Saturday, 4th December, 2010,
saw the entire school at the
foot of Khandoba Tekdi at
Chandsi!
The
salubrious
climate of Nasik was all too
evident and invigorated all
present. It set the perfect mood
for recitation of poetry,
particularly
after
an
exhilarating climb to the peak
of the tekdi and back.
Children’s Day celebrations
The school celebrated Children‟s Day
on the occasion of birthday of our first
Prime Minister Late Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru on 14th November, 2010.
The educators had prepared a few
items to entertain the children.
The programme kicked off with a
dance performed on the song – “Ande
ka funda”, a skit and a karate
demonstration
by
our
talented
teachers. The teachers had even
planned some fascinating games for
the little ones followed by a movie. We
could
really
see
the
blissful
appearances of our twinkling stars and
this increased the beauty of the
programme.
Glimpses of Republic Day
Kites Festival at Ashoka
AUS is always said to have unique
and
creative
assemblies.
14th January, 2011 was such a day
when everyone was in a festive
mood of celebrating “Makar
Sankranti” with a new zest and
zeal. Children enjoyed to the
fullest by flying kites in the school.

The function began with hosting the
national flag, which was followed by
the National Anthem.

AUS, whole heartedly welcomed the
guest of honour, dignitaries and
parents of Ashoka family. Amidst
jubilation,
the
school
children
presented amazing tips to save
ourselves from earthquake and fire.
Tableaux highlighting achievements
and progress of various students
rolled out amidst public cheers. Shri
Biswajeet Mukherjee said “with the
spirit of welfare and happiness of all
human beings, Sarvjan Hitaye,
Sarvjan Sukhaye let us spread this
thoughtful message throughout the
world.”
The Chief Guest Shri S. D. Parakh
made a very emphatic statement,
“We need research oriented activities to be
inculcated in students. Other countries are
known for their products, but we can
proudly say India is known for its Brains.”
Every student is a winner if he himself
improves
from
his
previous
performance. We need researchers
like Shri Ashok Katariyaji for a better
Indian future. He reminded us of the
duties towards our nation. On
Republic Day, our regional identity
gives way to our national identity.
Neither caste, creed nor religion
matters. What matters at all is to have
a heart, which proudly and loudly says
„I am an Indian.‟
