Edina Realty Foundation
Our Mission
As long as there are children living in the street…
As long as there are women and men without beds to sleep in…
As long as there are families that have no place to call home…
We will dedicate funds to organizations that support the homeless.
And we will work toward the day when every person has a safe, clean place to live.
Because we believe that no human being deserves anything less.
“
we give ”
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life
by what
.
Sir Winston Churchill
hanks to the outstanding generosity of our agents and employees, the Edina Realty
Foundation had another great year of giving. Last fiscal year, 197 grants totaling more
than $342,000 in funds were distributed to non-profit organizations that work with the
homeless in the communities we serve. That means hundreds of low-income families received
help through Edina Realty Foundation grants earmarked for shelter, financial assistance, food,
medical care and transitional housing - something that is more important than ever in these
difficult economic times.
T
With the downturn in the economy, one might expect agent and employee participation in our
Foundation to have decreased. It didn't. The agents and employees of Edina Realty Home
Services dug in deeper and held more than 40 fundraisers ranging from several large scale
events to a number of silent and live auctions.
Since its inception in 1996, the Edina Realty Foundation has raised more than $5.3 million. And, the
majority of funds raised by the Foundation - 97.5 percent - go directly to serve non-profits, with only
2.5 percent going toward administrative fees.
It is the agents and employees who have made the Edina Realty Foundation not just possible, but
an organization making a real difference in people's lives. We would like to extend our heartfelt
thanks for their tireless efforts, countless hours of volunteer time and monetary contributions. Their
dedication is truly inspirational.

Top Five Grant Recipients
1. Bridging - $31,770
Bridging was founded on the simple concept that community resources should be shared with
those in need. Their purpose is to bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots. Their
mission is to provide the economically disadvantaged with a one-time gift of quality furniture
and household items, which helps to stabilize and improve their lives while effectively using
community resources. Through a network of more than 200 social service agencies, eligible
clients are referred to their warehouse for a once-in-a-lifetime shopping experience.
2. Home of the Good Shepherd - $15,000
Founded in 1868 to assist girls and women in crisis in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, Home
of the Good Shepherd operates two transitional housing programs in St. Paul for homeless and
at-risk women. They provide women the necessary space for physical and psychological healing
while they address realistic goals for employment, housing and education.
3. Spare Key of Minnesota - $13,000
Spare Key of Minnesota provides mortgage assistance to Minnesota homeowners with critically ill
or seriously injured children by making a mortgage payment directly to the lender on behalf of the
family. This mortgage assistance alleviates financial stress during a time of crisis and provides time
for parents to be at their child's bedside to advocate and be a part of their recovery.
4. Minnesota Teen Challenge - $11,450
Nearly one out of four Teen Challenge applicants list “homeless” as their current address. Over
95 percent of individuals who enter Teen Challenge's alcohol and drug rehabilitation program are
admitted for free because they have no home, savings, medical insurance or family financial
support for their stay. Teens and adults who come in with nothing are leaving freed from drugs
and alcohol, as well as equipped to enter society as productive citizens.
5. Safe Haven Shelter for Youth - $10,500
Providing residential housing for children and young adults who are homeless due to abuse
and neglect, Safe Haven Shelter for Youth teaches independent living skills, works on family
reunification, and provides food, transitional housing and counseling services.
Since its inception in 1996, the Edina Realty Foundation has
raised
more than $5.3 million.
