workshop to ensure you get paid for your live shows. SOCAN’s Tim Hardy will walk you through the
online reporting process for live gigs and help you remit your shows and ensure you get paid. As long
as you’re already a SOCAN member and have played shows that qualify for royalties you’re in! Space is

Grant Lawrence. Lawrence is a leading voice on the Canadian independent music scene and also hosts
events such as the Polaris Music Prize Gala, the Western Canadian Music Awards and various festivals
around North America. The gala will feature awards presentations and musical performances by Coyote,
Ian Toms Trio, Tim Chaisson, Two Hours Traffic, with special guest Jenn Grant plus many more!

Adam Gallant
Adam is a freelance audio engineer and musician based in Charlottetown, PEI. After graduating from
Nova Scotia Community College’s Recording Arts program in 2004, Adam has amassed 8 years of recording and production experience spanning a wide variety of genres. Adam’s work has been nominated
for several ECMAs and Music PEI awards, including wins for Best Alternative Recording with Mars Hill,
Group Recording and Rock Recording with Racoon Bandit and Recording Studio/Technician of the Year
in 2010. His credits range from Assistant Engineer, Recording Engineer, Producer, Mixer, to Musician.
Adam currently plays guitar and records with Racoon Bandit.
Alan Willaert
CFM (Canadian Federation of Musicians)
Alan Willaert toured as a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist in “classic rock” bands for 20 years. He was hired
by the AFM as an International Representative in 1990, and also served as Executive Director. Now, as
Vice-President from Canada of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), and CEO of the Canadian
Federation of Musicians (an organization within the AFM), he oversees the operation of the CFM national
office in Toronto. As VPC, he not only heads negotiations of national agreements for Canada, but also is
involved in the negotiations in the US.
Andrea Von Foerster
Firestarter Music
Andrea has done music supervision for film, television and online projects for over 10 years. Credits
include music documentaries such as The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights and Butch
Walker: Out Of Focus. Independent films such as (500) Days Of Summer, It’s Kind of A Funny Story,
From Prada To Nada, Bellflower and Excision. And studio films such as Journey 2: The Mysterious
Island, Chronicle and Chasing Mavericks. Television work includes Dollhouse and Stargate Universe and
numerous MTV shows such as Run’s House and Life Of Ryan. She is currently working on the independent films Growing Up And Other Lies and Friended To Death in addition to the TV show Don’t Trust The
B—— In Apt. 23 (ABC).
Catherine Jones
Bellmedia
Catherine Jones, Director of Music Licensing for BellMedia, is a 20-year veteran of the music industry,
with a focus on music rights and licensing. Catherine started her career at Universal Music Canada (then
MCA Records), and built the licensing division from the ground up. She is a longtime member of CARAS,
Juno Judge, and fan of the East Coast music scene.
Catherine MacLellan
MacLellan’s star has long been rising in North America. Winner of the 2012 Canadian Folk Music
Songwriter of the Year Award, her latest record, Silhouette, reached out to expand her already loyal fan
base as she toured in support of legendary artists including Bruce Cockburn and Steve Forbert, while
also holding her own by touring and showcasing across North America, the UK and Europe. Silhouette
captures her best qualities effortlessly—stitching together elegantly woven songs with her memorable
blend of heartfelt and powerfully introspective lyrics and catchy melodies.

Colin MacDonald
The Trews
Colin MacDonald is the principle songwriter and lead singer of Canadian band, The Trews. He was raised
in Nova Scotia with his brother John-Angus, who is also a member of The Trews. The band has released
13 Top 10 Rock Radio singles, including 3 in the top spot. Colin has performed over 1,000 live shows
worldwide, but has never forgot his true Nova Scotia roots. Colin’s career highlight came is 2012, when
The Trews performed with Bruce Springsteen in Moncton. The Trews will return to writing material for
their next full-length, expected in late 2013.
Daniel Ledwell
Daniel Ledwell is a Prince Edward Island-born producer and multi-instrumentalist. With over 15 productions to his credit, Daniel’s most recent projects include records for Milks & Rectangles, Gabrielle Papillion, Don Brownrigg, Heather Green, and Jenn Grant’s last two releases, including the Juno-nominated,
Polaris long-listed album, Honeymoon Punch. Somewhere in between, he has found himself on tour
with The Weakerthans, Kathleen Edwards, Jenn Grant, and Jim Bryson. Daniel was also a member of the
Halifax band In-Flight Safety for 9 years.
Darryl Neudorf
Darryl is a Grammy- and Juno-nominated Producer and Engineer. In the ’80s he was the drummer for
54/40, and co-composed and performed on several Canadian/US hits while with the band.
Upon leaving
54/40, Darryl pursued a career in music production and engineering, culminating in albums that achieved
gold and platinum status in the US and Canada (Sarah McLachlan, 54/40, Blue Rodeo) and won a Juno
award (The New Pornographers). In 2009, Darryl co-produced/engineered Neko Case’s Middle Cyclone
which debuted at number 3 on Billboard in the US, and received two Grammy nominations.
David Hayman
SUPERSONIc Creative
David will be focusing his attention on broadening music supervision services for exciting long-form
projects, new media ventures and branded entertainment productions like the recently completed CrossCanada Coca-Cola Beat Bus Tour. David has been a music supervisor for 10 years, has worked on major
feature films, worldwide broadcast television series and a plethora of major advertising campaigns. David
is currently the music supervisor for Rookie Blue (ABC/Global) and Saving Hope (NBC/CTV).
Grady Poe
Grady Poe has had 20 years experience working full time in the music business on Prince Edward Island.
His experience includes being manager for Barachois, Nils Ling (theatre), the Chucky Danger Band (now
Paper Lions), Les Girls, Gadelle, and Vishten. Grady has also worked as a performance coach for various
Island-based artists. During his tenure as manager for Barachois, the band achieved a nine-year career as
full-time international touring artists based on PEI. In addition, he has worked in the studio as a musician
(Jerry Holland, Teresa Doyle, Colette Cheverie), producer (Gadelle) and executive producer (3 award
winning CDs for Barachois). He has also founded and managed the record label associated with the
Barachois recordings. He currently is manager for Catherine MacLellan.

Grant Lawrence
CBC Radio 3
Grant Lawrence is a veteran radio personality, writer and musician based in British Columbia. A leading
voice on the Canadian independent music scene, Lawrence currently hosts Grant Lawrence Live, a live
and interactive daily program on CBC Radio 3’s popular web radio station, which also airs on Sirius 152.
The Vancouver native can be heard throughout the week on various CBC Radio 1 programs, such as
DNTO, Spark, All Points West and On The Coast, and has contributed to Q and Sounds Like Canada.
When he’s not conducting music industry seminars or giving keynote addresses on music and media
related topics, Lawrence is a seasoned event host. The six-time co-host of the Polaris Music Prize Gala
has also hosted the Western Canadian Music Awards and various festivals around North America.
Hassan King
Red Tentacle
Distinguishable by his constant hat(s), Hassan King is co-founder/co-owner of Red Tentacle Music
Solutions. Graduating from the Music Business program at Nova Scotia Community College(NSCC)
in which he received the Most Metal Award, he went on to work for Diminished Fifth Records / Hogan
Media Relations under which he did publicity, marketing and show promotion for a multitude of bands,
labels and festivals.
Hassan has done almost every task in the music industry from postering, hauling gear, selling merchandise, assisting in a recording studio, booking shows, music placement, putting out an album and countless other jobs. With this strong history and connections in the music industry, Hassan has earned his
solid reputation throughout the East Coast.
Jason Burns
Burnt Tree Entertainment/Sonic Entertainment Group
Jason Burns is the president of Burnt Tree Entertainment, co-manages the careers of Hey Rosetta!, Rich
Aucoin, and fully manages Old Man Luedecke. In 2011 and 2012, Jason won the award for Manager
of the Year from Music Nova Scotia. Burnt Tree Entertainment is a part of Sonic Entertainment Group
(SEG), a collection of companies comprised of Quay Management, Sonic Concerts, Sonic Records, and
the Sonic Temple Recording Studio. Jason also plays drums in Halifax rock band, Mardeen.
Jeff Morton
Canada Council for the Arts
Jeff Morton is a composer, musician, performer, writer, and media artist originally from Saskatchewan,
and currently based in Ottawa, where he works as a Program Officer in the Music Section at the Canada
Council for the Arts. His music and art are playful, experimental explorations of sound, sound-making,
communication, and compositional processes using found and musical objects and materials. In performance, composition, and installation, his work has been presented by ensembles and in galleries across
Canada and internationally. Jeff completed a Masters Degree in Music Composition at the University of
Victoria, where he studied with Christopher Butterfield.

John MacPhee
Paper Lions
Along with his band, Paper Lions, John MacPhee has written and recorded 4 albums and toured internationally. Career performance highlights include stops in Shanghai, China, the island of Malta, Belfast
Consolidated School, and the North Pole. Having seen first-hand success guiding the live shows of his
own act, MacPhee has been channeling his passion for exciting live performance, working alongside
Island acts Colour Code, The Meds, and Coyote.
John Mullane
In-Flight Safety
Born just as the tired ‘70s were becoming the eager ‘80s, John was always toying with instruments
around the house. He hammered away on the drums, much to the chagrin of his sister, scored fake radio
dramas with the family Yamaha synth, and shortly thereafter discovered the guitar. It was way cooler.
Today, John finds himself in the middle of a musical narrative he began in Sackville, NB, with his band InFlight Safety. The now Halifax-based band has seen their latest record released in the UK and Germany,
performed at SxSW, and had radio play on BBC Radio 1. John is currently working on an upcoming fourth
release for In-Flight Safety scheduled for release in 2013.
Jon Matthews
The Sound Mill
The Sound Mill is the next phase of evolution for PEI’s premier recording studio (formerly Big Grey Sound
Studio), owned by award-winning producer and engineer Jon Matthews. He is constantly in demand,
thanks to an uncanny ability to turn out top quality recordings in any musical genre. He is a past ECMA
nominee for Producer, Engineer and Studio of the Year, and has over 60 albums to his credit.
Josh Hogan
Red Tentacle
Over the past 7 years, Josh Hogan has strived to become a voice behind the East Coast metal scene. Beginning as the vocalist for the metal band, Orchid’s Curse, Hogan quickly discovered the lack of support
for the metal community and formed the Halifax-based metal label, Diminished Fifth Records.
During this time, he has been helping provide exposure and recognition for bands not only in the metal
scene, but from all walks of the musical spectrum with his publicity company Hogan Media Relations.
His efforts in the music community lead to him being named in The Chronicle Herald’s “Top 20 Twentysomethings To Watch” and co-founder of Red Tentacle Music Solutions.
Julia Train
MROC (Musician Rights Organization Canada)
Julia Train is the Communications & Administrations Director at the Musicians’ Rights Organization
Canada (MROC). Julia has also worked at FACTOR in both the Submissions Department and as the
Communications Manager. She has also worked for the CMRRA in the Online Licensing Department,
and in the DNR Department as a Royalties Administrator.

Kimberly Sinclair
Spincount
Kimberly Sinclair has amassed an impressive track record helping Canadian artists get their music heard
on radio; drawing on her background in New York’s garment district, along with a singular ability to bring
people together. Since 2008, SpinCount has created numerous media campaigns that have gotten
the firm’s clients attention on national radio charts, at provincial and national music association awards
presentations, and at international showcases and events.
SpinCount creates opportunities for artists by sponsoring events and presenting shows to maximize artist
development and exposure. The company works with leading producers, labels, artist managers, and
publicity firms to make key promotional services available to Canadian bands and musicians. Kimberly
and SpinCount is an award-winning music company.
Liana White
CFM (Canadian Federation of Musicians)
Liana White has worked for AFM (Canada) since 1996. She started her career with the AFM as the Artist
Immigration Administrator before being promoted to her current position of Executive Director. In her
position as Executive Director, White oversees the overall administrative functions for AFM’s Canadian
Office [now operating in Canada as Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM)].
White has become recognized within the music industry as an authority on immigration requirements
for both US and Canadian musicians. This recognition is not only from the musicians she has assisted
with crossborder needs, but also from industry publications and associations. In addition to immigration
advice, White also assists members who have experienced contractual defaults, and educates members
on the overall benefits of being an AFM/CFM member.
Marcello Favia
Arts & Crafts
Marcello Favia is a graduate of both the Film & Television program at Seneca College and the Harris
Institute for Recording Arts Management in Toronto. Marcello joined the Arts & Crafts team in 2006 as a
marketing and advertising coordinator, and currently holds the position of Publishing and Licensing Manager at A&C. Marcello also plays a vital role in producing Festival Music House–an annual 3-day event
held on behalf of the Canadian music industry during the height of the Toronto International Film Festival.
Mitch Podolak
Home Routes
Mitch Podolak is Canada’s most experienced folk festival organizer. Mitch is the founder of the Winnipeg
Folk Festival, the Vancouver Folk Festival, and he was also co-founder of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival
held in Canso, NS. The Edmonton Folk Festival and the Calgary Folk Festival came into existence because of his work with Alberta Culture.
Podolak’s enviable record of success is based on his belief that a non-profit festival is only as successful
as its volunteers. Giving them a sense of ownership of the festival is what creates festivals that last for
generations. Mitch considers himself a student who studies the art of folk festival construction, yet most
people consider him a mentor.

In 2009, Mitch established the first national touring circuit of house concerts, Home Routes, providing
hundreds of artists with work across the country. In all, Podolak is Canada’s folk Renaissance man.
Rob Lanni
Coalition Music
Rob Lanni (with partner Eric Lawrence) is co-founder of Coalition Music (Management) — a full-service
management company. The current client roster includes artists Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan, Finger
Eleven, Justin Nozuka, USS, Incura, The Balconies, Ben Caplan, Faber Drive, Glenn Morrison, and These
Kids Wear Crowns. Established in 1990, Coalition’s early focus was primarily on touring and being accessible to their artists. Coalition has since evolved into a full service company which includes Coalition
Music (Records), a label partnership with Warner Music.
In 2010, Coalition Music moved to a new home in Toronto, a 12,000 square foot building that houses
the offices, rehearsal and production suites, showcase room, recording studios, and education spaces.
Rob is currently on the Board of Directors of the Music Managers Forum of Canada having served as the
organization’s first President. In addition, Lanni represents the MMF on the FACTOR Board of Directors.
Rob Oakie
Music PEI
Rob Oakie, Executive Director of Music PEI brings not only a knowledgeable understanding of the music
industry, but also a wealth of business experience from his extensive experience in private business and
specifically export development with more than a decade selling building material packages around the
world. Rob was responsible for successfully lobbying the provincial government to create a provincial
music industry association in 2007. Under his leadership Music PEI has provided grant programs and
created hundreds of thousands of dollars in work for the island music industry through the business
development program. Rob has a true passion for music and its creators.
Scott Long
Music Nova Scotia
With over 17 years experience in the music industry touring the world with Ashley MacIsaac and Seven
Nations, Scott has successfully performed many roles including touring musician, recording artist, tour
manager, technical director, artist manager, merchandiser, and sponsorship procurement and fulfillment.
Scott has worked on stage and behind the scenes with many international high profile events.
In his current role as Executive Director of Music Nova Scotia, Scott provides leadership for one of the
largest music industry associations in Canada. Scott offers Music Nova Scotia, its Board of Directors
and the valued staff, a broad range of creative, administrative and technical skills to ensure winning
results for members.
Tamara Kater
Folk Music Canada
From 2008–2011, Tamara Kater was Executive Director of a the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Between 1999
and 2008, she was also Executive Director of Ottawa Folk Festival; founder of a booking and artist
management company, Northern Roots; Education and Outreach officer at the National Arts Centre in

Ottawa, General Manager of Repercussion Theatre in Montreal; as well as General Manager of a multidisciplinary non-profit arts production company, Project Renaissance, in Huntingdon, QC.
Tamara is currently the Executive Director of Folk Music Canada, a national association based in Toronto
that is a member-driven organisation that supports and promotes the Canadian folk music community,
and is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance, diversity, and cultural value of all types of
folk music in Canada.
Tim Hardy
SOCAN
Tim Hardy has worked with SOCAN in a variety of positions within their Licensing & Membership Departments in both its Head Office in Toronto and its Atlantic Canadian Office based in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
since 1995. Tim’s current role with SOCAN (Member & Industry Relations Executive – Atlantic Region)
has him based in Halifax, but on the road throughout Atlantic Canada. The Member Relations role allows
Tim to work with songwriters, composers and music publishers, as well as industry associations and key
influencers within the region, spreading the word about SOCAN and its role within the Canadian music
industry.
Tim Jones
FACTOR
Tim Jones is a Submissions Co-ordinator at FACTOR, the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Records. Prior to becoming a funder, Tim promoted over 100 shows in 19 venues across the two-stoplight
town of Sackville, NB, before moving to an even smaller place and working as Artistic Director at the
Dawson City Music Festival, where he discovered that Yukon winters were actually easier than Atlantic
Ocean winters (it’s a drier cold up there, and no wind). Tim received his M.A. in Cultural Policy from the
University of Chicago in 2008.
Troy Greencorn
Stan Rogers Folk Festival
Troy Greencorn is the founding Artistic Director of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, now into its 17th year.
“Stanfest”, as it has come to be known, is an international songwriter’s festival and presents accomplished songwriters from a range of genres. Stanfest annually brings upwards of 60 artists/groups to
Canso, NS, for the three-day, seven-stage festival. The general formula for the festival’s program is 1/3
East Coast, 1/3 National (Canadian) and 1/3 International.
Troy is a past producer of the ECMA Conference and festival 2005–2011, and regularly produces major
concerts throughout Atlantic Canada. As a consultant Troy, has worked with numerous new festivals in
the region such as PEI Festival of Small Halls.
