Day 1
START CENTRAL
Start your shopping adventure right in downtown Detroit. Hit the unique
shops and galleries of Midtown, where you’ll find gems like Shinola, Nest,
City Bird, the Peacock Room and Pure Detroit, or venture into downtown’s
historic Merchants Row (Woodward Avenue near Campus Martius), which
is seeing redevelopment as retailers like Moosejaw set up seasonal or permanent shops. If you’re in town on a Saturday, don’t miss Eastern Market
— a six-block public market that attracts thousands and has been feeding
Detroit (literally and culturally) since 1891. Hundreds of open-air stalls offer fruits, vegetables, flowers, locally produced specialty food products,
meats and more. The surrounding shops and restaurants provide gourmet
goodies, antiques and items by local and Michigan artisans. Head to Indian
Village (just north of downtown) for a tour of Pewabic Pottery, a national
historic landmark, pottery workroom, design studio and gift shop.
DINE AT A LOCAL FAVORITE LIKE SLOWS BAR BQ, ANDIAMO, Hard
Rock Cafe DETROIT OR Traffic Jam & Snug AND CHECK INTO

Sanders treats such as Pecan Torties and Coconut Clusters in the 100-foot
observation walkway, a free sample and a stop in the candy and gift shop
put the finishing touch on your visit.
