Literacy In Action at LPS
Literacy groups are an important part of our English program for all
classes in Kindergarten to Year 6. Students read fiction and
non-fiction texts aligned to their reading level, developing valuable
oral reading and comprehension skills. A main part of literacy groups
is the questioning and clarifying that takes place as they read. When
comprehending, students are left with a sense of satisfaction from
having understood the meaning of a text. We also aim to engage
students in the text they are reading by encouraging them to predict
and make connections with the text.
We thank our parent helpers for their dedication and support with our
literacy groups program.

http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/Pertussis.aspx
Applications for Extended Leave for Travel
If you wish to travel for 10 days or more in school time, you must first apply for leave from the Principal.
The Application for Extended Leave for Travel form is available from both the office and website and
should be completed prior to your trip, not afterwards.
Uniform Changeover
As weather can be unpredictable, students may return in either summer or winter uniform for the first two
weeks of Term 2. No mixed summer/winter combinations are permitted. From Week 3, all students
should be in full winter school uniform.
Staffing News – Term 2
We wish Miss Krista Rampe safe travels as she takes leave for the rest of the year. Mr Luke Harris will
teach 3R from Term 2 and parents will be invited to a ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening. I would like to
congratulate Mrs Caroline Desmond who has been offered a position leading the implementation of a
new Department of Education finance and administration system (LMBR) with Principals and
Administrative staff in our network. We wish her well in this new venture and look forward to working
with her in a different capacity. Mrs Desmond will be taking on this role from 26 April until 25 November.
During this time, Miss Angela Mustaca will be the Relieving Deputy Principal. I am currently sourcing a
teacher to teach 4M for this time and am seeking expressions of interest from staff for the relieving
Assistant Principal position. The successful staff members will be announced next term.
Happy Holidays!
I wish you all a relaxing holiday with family and friends and thank you for supporting our school this term.
Our school community assists us in so many ways - literacy and numeracy groups, swimming and
excursion helpers, canteen and clothing pool volunteers and class parents. Your contributions are
valued by the teachers and executive – thank you. My thanks also go to the dedicated teaching and
administrative staff at LPS who work tirelessly to ensure that we provide a quality education for all
students. I would also like to thank you for the warm welcome that I have received from the students
and parents in my first term at Lindfield – although I haven’t stopped since I began, I have loved every
minute of it and look forward to doing it all again next term!

Garden Club
The children’s hard work in the garden is now sprouting! We are so pleased that our gardens are now
once again growing and doing very well. We are looking forward to growing potatoes when the weather
gets cooler.
SEaL Program
Today Kindergarten participated in their last day of the Social and Emotional Learning Program. They
have had so much fun learning about dramatic skills and visualisation techniques while exploring social
emotional learning areas such as: social awareness, social management, self awareness,
self management and reflection.
‘Plickers’ for Assessment
We enjoyed watching Miss Liddell use the ‘Plickers’ application today with her Year 2 classes. ‘Plickers’
is a simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for
student devices. Student’s answers to questions are taken from cards that are turned in different
directions for different answers to questions and then the i-pad is used to scan the response which it
then graphs the results for the class to see. This gives feedback to the teacher and students to react to
instantly. Results are collated on the application and are then used to inform the next sequence of
teaching lesson.
Term 2 Recreational and School Sport Options
Yesterday students in Years 3 – 6, who are not participating in Term 2 PSSA, received a note about the
Recreational and School Sport Program. The program which will run for eight weeks includes; rock
climbing, sports skills, tennis and zumba. Students also have the option of doing school sport.
Preferences must be filled out and returned to the box in the office by Thursday, 7 April 2016.

BOOK DONATIONS
Due to the high number of students in the school with another language other
than English, an area in the library is being set up for:
BILINGUAL AND LOTE (language other than English) BOOKS
It is important that students continue to use their first language while gaining
knowledge of the English language. It is also important that our library has books
that are suitable for all our students especially the older students that are newly
arrived to Australia.
Some of these books will be bought by the school but we would be grateful for
any donations of books in languages other than English. They should be in good
condition and suitable for a primary school library.
Please put any books that you would like to give to the library in the box on the
school office counter. They can be placed in a plastic bag and your name can be
included on a piece of paper.
Please let other parents know about this new area of the library.
