LOOKING
FOR A
SPEAKER?
NEED A FRESH VOICE?
TFA CAN HELP!
With strategic planning, local networking and the help of your agency
representative there are ways to afford your favorite speaker. Fees generally range from $600 (on a shared day) to $3,500 - with a few exceptions.
The most economical approach to bringing in a quality speaker into your
area is to share the day with another school or to build a tour.
The Fisher Agency subcontracted for Jostens since 1988 to help schools,
districts, universities and educational associations find quality speakers
for audiences of students, educators, school administrators and parents.
With great care and concern, The Fisher Agency has gathered the finest
speakers from across the United States. The Fisher Agency is your onestop station where knowledgeable and friendly guidance can be found.
The Fisher Agency has thoroughly studied speakers within the education market. Our agency representatives will listen to your needs and
budget guidelines, then recommend the best possible speakers for you to
consider. Further literature, promo videos (when available), pricing, and
scheduling information will be supplied upon request. Since most speakers are frequently on the road, our service will save you time, phone calls
and frustration. All necessary paperwork, down to the last detail, will be
monitored by the agency.

MOTIVATION
Let’s face it, life is tough! Everyone benefits from a strong motivational
program which helps people face challenges, accept changes,
make positive choices, set goals, and move toward their dreams. The
compelling words of a motivational speaker can truly touch the heart
and empower the listener to reach new heights. Voices for a Generation
presents a diverse group of professional motivational speakers - each
with a background and life experience sure to motivate and inspire the
most resistant audience member.
LEADERSHIP
Strong leadership is the force behind a successful project, positive school
climate, smooth-running district, powerful organization, and successful
individual. When leadership foundation slips, trouble starts. Voices for
a Generation offers a selection of leadership speakers who teach skills
which empower the individual to make a difference for himself and
benefit the greater good of all. Programs are presented in keynote and
workshop formats - from one hour to three days.
PREVENTION
Where do you draw the line when it comes to drugs, alcohol, gangs
and sex? Far too many young people are suffering the consequences of
unhealthy choices: drug and alcohol addiction, STDs, AIDs, unwanted
pregnancies, dropping out of school, violence, gangs and death
Prevention speakers offer reinforcement to those already making positive
choices and they challenge and inform those who need to change. TFA
provides valuable information on speakers that can save lives.
You will not need to pay more to use the agency.
There is never an additional charge for using the agency service. Fee
integrity is very important to us! We quote speakers’s fees and travel
expenses exactly as each speaker would quote. Also, we will negotiate
on your behalf when multiple or consecutive days are scheduled, or
when you have an unusual circumstance.

Albert Mensah
The Prince of Possibilities
LIFE SKILLS • PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY • CHARACTER EDUCATION
Programs
Albert Mensah grew up in Ghana,
Africa, where he walked four
miles, barefoot, twice a day, to
carry firewood and water to his
home that didn’t have electricity
or plumbing.
When Albert was eight years old,
he saw his first American movie
and admired all the unparalleled
opportunities in America.
From that point on, his only dream was to attend college
in America and that dream came true when he received a
four year scholarship to Western Maryland College, where
he became an All-American soccer player.
Leadership: We are all Leaders
(students, leadership conferences)
Every one of us has the opportunity to be a leader at some time
and place and leadership qualities are a necessity for success.
This is a program that shows students how to hone their
leadership qualities to become a leader in life.
Peak Performance: Who are the Champions?
(students, staff )
This program will motivate your students and staff, while
showing them how to set practical goals, recognize opportunity,
face fears and obstacles and develop ways to act on
opportunities.
Diversity: We Need All Of Us (students, staff )
This program shows the importance of having all of our talents
and various viewpoints included in the decision making process.
We are all different. We think, talk, look and interact differently.
But we all want the same things: to be accepted, to love and to
be loved.
Bullying: There’s Always A Bigger Bully (students, staff )
Bullying is an act of cowardice that stems from feelings of
inadequacy. Because bullies feel inferior, they pick on others in
order to feel better about themselves.
Ever since then, Albert has been speaking to audiences
of different calibers, both young and old, nationally and
internationally. He believes that people born into an
opportunity filled country, such as America, can’t see the
many opportunities that they take for granted.
So, he is here to remind his audience to seize and
maximize their opportunities. Albert is the author of When
the Drumbeat Changes, Dance a Different Dance and Shake
off Your Fear Snakes.

Chris really enjoys being the opening speaker and attending the

He helps students see that another’s perspective is not nearly as

Dale Messmer
Mad Dog - You do the crime, you do the time
As a speaker, Dale “Mad Dog” Messmer
guarantees each audience will believe
and remember his story. Without being
obscene or offensive, Dale explains the
consequences of his bad choices.
As a convicted felon, Dale “Mad Dog” Messmer served
over ten years in prison for drug smuggling and
armed robbery in four states (Kansas, Oklahoma,
Tennessee and Arkansas). The law enforcement
agencies considered him a “career criminal” and they
were advised to “never approach him alone.”
Before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps,
Mad Dog attended school in the Wichita, and central
Kansas area. After a medical/honorable discharge
from the Marine Corps, he became involved in
several businesses. In civilian life, Mad Dog operated
a concert security company, a limousine service,
taverns and worked for a bail bonding company as
a bounty hunter. For his job, in the music industry
in Nashville, he became a bodyguard for Charlie
Daniels and William Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge
Boys. Eventually expanding his operations to include
a charter flying service, his freelance work led to drug
smuggling and ultimately. . . prison.
Since his release from prison over nine years ago, Mad
Dog has chosen to save as many young people as
possible from his bad choices (drugs, gangs, prison).
After speaking at over 1400 schools, nationwide,
including 400 schools and youth organizations
in Arkansas for the Arkansas Crime Prevention
Association, he is endorsed by Arkansas Governor
Mike Huckabee and the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association.
Endorsed by the Ventura County School Board, Mad
Dog continues his work in California in schools and
with the LAPD Juvenile Impact Program and the
VIDA Program. Mad Dog has appeared on nationally
televised news, documentaries and film with his
Straight Talk Outreach Program (S.T.O.P.).
As a speaker, Dale “Mad Dog” Messmer guarantees
each audience will believe and remember his story.
Without being obscene or offensive, Dale explains
the consequences of his bad choices. He does not
glamorize his escapades nor does he have anything
positive to say about crime. His goal is to “tell it like it
is” to anyone who is contemplating or experimenting
with bad choices. When Mad Dog is hired, he gets the
job done!

Grant Baldwin
Relevant Leader & Engaging Communicator
Grant Baldwin is a relevant leader
and an engaging communicator who
is making a significant impact in the
lives of students across the country.
Growing up, Grant always enjoyed challenging and
inspiring those around him to overcome obstacles and be
something significant in life. Having experienced multiple
divorces within his family, Grant knew what it was to turn
hardship into hope. As a teenager, he began to see how
he could use his challenges to encourage and empower
those around him.
Over the many years of working with and speaking
to students, Grant has become a very popular and
well-received speaker. Grant has given hundreds of
presentations and has spoken to thousands of students
through school assemblies, conferences, workshops,
retreats, camps, and more. His presentations will cause
students to think and act on relevant issues such as
identity, purpose, and leadership. Grant presents in such
a way that he captivates with humor, innovates with
creativity, and motivates with passion.
Having worked with students for over 7 years, Grant gets
students. He has a unique ability to connect with and
relate to their worlds. From sporting events to school
cafeteria lunches, Grant has spent countless hours helping
students deal with the ups and downs of life.
While Grant does love speaking and inspiring students, he
loves his wife and daughter more! He was lucky enough to
convince his gorgeous high school sweetheart, Sheila, to
marry him and together they have an energetic little girl
that Daddy chases all over the house…and they both love
every minute of it! When he’s not traveling and speaking
to students, Grant lives in Springfield, Missouri where he is
a pretty normal guy. He likes golf, eBay, cookie dough ice
cream, and long walks on the beach with his wife…except
we don’t have beaches in Missouri.
Workshops
Broke Today…Rich Tomorrow!
This workshop helps students get a better understanding of
money management and how their decisions with money
today, both good and bad, will affect their options and
opportunities tomorrow. This workshop is very interactive and
engaging and will help students create a game plan for what to
do with money.
What The Heck Am I Going To Do With My Life?
For many students, finding their passion in life is a huge
challenge. Not only that but figuring out how that passion
translates into a career where they can actually make a living
isn’t easy either. But this workshop will help students not only
explore what their strengths and interests are but will provide
them with strategies to answer the question, “What The Heck
Am I Going To Do With My Life?”
So Much To Do, So Little Time
School. Jobs. Stress. Relationships. College. How in the world
can a student even begin to balance all of these responsibilities
and pressures? In this workshop, we’ll walk through how to
establish priorities and then build our lives and schedules
around what matters most. Students will come away with
specific goals that they will be able to implement into their lives
immediately to help create balance.
Taking Care of Business
I want to start a business, but how? Great question! From
helping solidify an idea to figuring out how to fund it to running
it on a daily basis, this workshop will help students figure out
how to let that inner entrepreneur come alive! As a group we’ll
bounce ideas off one another, we’ll dream together, and we may
even just start our own business right there.
Reality Check
This is a new Q&A workshop based on Grant’s latest book, Reality
Check. The book is about helping students make the transition
from high school into college and the real world. It consists
of 50 questions that students are asking about finances, living
on your own, college, careers, and more. Grant is able to do a
customized workshop in which your student leaders can select
5-7 questions discussed in the book that can be used for a more
in depth workshop discussion. So what we discuss is completely
tailored to your students and your event!

Jason Barber
It’s not an accident
Jason shares true stories about the
consequences of drunk driving.
He explains to audiences that
drunk driving is NOT an accident.
Drunk driving is a CHOICE
In 1991, Jason was racing friends and driving drunk.
They all thought they were just having a good time,
but that changed in a split second when he caused a
crash that killed his 15 year-old brother, Aaron.
Jason was convicted of vehicular manslaughter for
the death of his little brother, and sent to state prison
on a six year sentence. He was released in 1995 after
serving three and a half years and has been sober
ever since. In the time since his prison release, Jason
has furthered his education as a Human Services
major with an emphasis on Drug and Alcohol
Counseling.
Programs
All programs are suitable for teenagers, educators and
parent groups.
• It’s Not an Accident: The Consequences of Drunk
Driving
Jason shares true stories about the consequences of
drunk driving. He explains to audiences that drunk
driving is NOT an accident. Drunk driving is a CHOICE.
• Cycle of Addiction
• Drugs and Alcohol in the Family

Methamphetamines and Opiates
• How to Spot a Drug User in the Workplace or

For the past three years he has worked in local high

at-risk youth. Jason also facilitated teen and parent
outreach groups in the evenings, teaching parenting
skills and communication techniques for better
teen/parent relationships. This has given him the
opportunity to meet three other families who have
suffered similar losses because of drunk driving. These
families allow Jason to tell their story along with his
own, in the hopes that other families will not ever
have to endure such pain.
Spreading this message across America is what
Jason does full time. Jason has been written about
in numerous newspapers, appeared on local cable
talk shows and has been a guest on the nationally
televised LEEZA SHOW. He is currently writing a book
detailing his life as an alcoholic and addict, Aaron’s
death, prison and the grace that saved his life.

Johnnie Tuitel
Responsibility and Accountability
To many, Johnnie Tuitel’s disability is
a struggle. But to Johnnie, it’s just the
way things are.
Much of his positive attitude can be attributed to his
upbringing. In 1963, doctors told Johnnie’s Dutchimmigrant parents that their son had cerebral palsy. “He’ll
be a burden,” they said. “He won’t be able to lead a normal
life.”
Ignoring the doctors, the Tuitels took their baby home to
love him and to raise him. They encouraged him to focus
on his abilities and to try anything and everything. Yes,
there were cuts and bruises along the way, but they just
increased his determination and toughened his resolve.
Each struggle was a stepping-stone to a higher, yet
undefined goal.
The goal became clearer in 1974 when Johnnie became
the first student with a disability to be mainstreamed into
the public school system. He not only completed public
schooling, but went on to receive a bachelor’s degree
from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. And all this from
a young man who wasn’t supposed to be able to lead a
“normal” life.
Speaker, author, entrepreneur, visionary, family man and
world-traveler, Johnnie Tuitel is a man who thinks outside
the wheelchair. And he helps others to focus on life’s
potentials rather than its limitations.
Workshops
Responsibility and Accountability
Doctors pretty much told Johnnie’s parents to put their infant
son in an institution, and then go home and have “normal
children.” The philosophy of life Johnnie grew up with—mainly,
you don’t give up in the middle—is a much-needed message,
especially in today’s culture.
asked questions, adults openly showed their disdain.
The Power of Empathy
Walk a mile in Johnnie’s shoes? Big deal. Try rolling a mile in his
wheelchair. No one can perfectly understand what’s going on
in another person’s life. We all have our own filters, experiences,
perceptions. Learning to be empathic helps enrich all kinds of
relationships.
The Power of Encouragement
Who doesn’t need a “well done,” once in awhile. Criticism of the
negative kind damages the spirit. When Johnnie’s mom said, “I
believe in you. We’re going to make a miracle happen today,” she
empowered her son to be successful.
A Time to Challenge and a Time for Acceptance
Johnnie’s dream was to play high school football. After all, he
did play grade-school football. But when it came time for him
to be a lineman for the high school team, he was told he had to
remain on the sidelines. The disappointment was overwhelming.
Hard lessons often bring about solid character—foundational
stones upon which people build their lives. But first, they have to
learn when to challenge life and when to accept it.
Run the Good Race
He didn’t come in first, second or even third. But Johnnie
completed the 10K race around Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids,
Michigan. And he finished it as he started it—on crutches. It was
something he wanted to do—an accomplishment that meant
weeks of training and discipline. He did it—not to win, but to
finish.
Overcoming Fear
Small children often accept the disabilities of others more easily
than do adults. Johnnie stepped into the cold shower of reality
once he left public school and entered adulthood. Where kids

Blogs. For most adults, these
contemporary communication
vehicles elicit little more than a
puzzled scratch of the head. But,
ask the average young person
between the ages of 12 and 24
and they totally get it. Just like
they totally get Josh Shipp.
This modern, self-help guru can be found dispensing his own
brand of wit and wisdom in cyberspace, in books, on television
and radio, at conferences, and to packed audiences of students
in high school auditoriums across the country. Listen to him
for just a few minutes and you will get it, too. Josh offers up
a healthy dose of what he calls “advice with an attitude.” He
counsels teenagers on everything they care about and it’s all
done in a youth-friendly, humorous tone that is more hilarious
survival guide than preachy sermon.
Josh certainly knows a thing or two about survival. Abandoned
and abused as a child, he was able to triumph over the tragedy.
He attributes his personal growth to the support of a great
foster family, dynamic teachers and enriching school programs
that opened his eyes to his true potential. After serving as State
DECA President and on the School-to-Work student advisory
committee, Josh decided to commit his life to helping others
achieve their goals.
“I’ve found that sometimes the very thing that
has hurt you the most, is the very thing you can
use to help others. You can’t change the past -- so
why not focus on building an incredible future?”
Although Josh is still in his 20s, you wouldn’t know it from his
resume. He’s written books, shared the stage with Bill Cosby, and
hosts a reality TV show. For the past seven years, this California
resident has toured the world as a successful motivational
speaker sharing his inspirational words with more than one
million people. Rest assured that most of them left the room
with a broad smile on their face and hope in their heart.
Conference Keynote/School Assembly:
Don’t be AVERAGE!
Imagine...capturing an audience with laughter, drawing them
in, getting comfortable, building trust. When you least expect
it, real life comes into view. The true story of a boy left at the
hospital, in and out of homes, abused. This sad tale does not end
in sadness. It rises above the situations to show how a mess can
turn into a message.
Every performance by Josh Shipp is an emotional journey. Your
students will laugh at stories of exploding microwaves, and they
will play games they haven’t thought about since kindergarten.
Then, in the next moment, they will experience spine shivers as
Josh talks about the barriers that sometimes aim to block our
best intentions. It’s a lesson in the awesome power of life, and
the awesome power of the heart and spirit.
Josh’s one-man show style message will stick with your students
years from now. Josh understands the struggles that many
young people have as they form their identity, define their
values, and discover their life purpose. His story of triumph
encourages all people to make “a message from the mess.”

Judson Laipply
The evolution of dance
Judson Laipply has been described
in many ways by many people.
Perhaps the perfect description
came early in his speaking career
when someone called him an
“Inspirational Comedian” and the
combination was right on.
Funny enough to be a comedian (he won the only contest
he ever entered), educated enough to teach college (he
taught several classes and turned down an offer to teach
full-time), and lucky enough to learn that combination is
one of the most powerful mediums for addressing anyone.
People like to laugh and people like to learn.
Judson gives all of his audiences both. His keynotes
or assemblies are the perfect balance of laughter and
thought-provoking ideas. His wide background of
experiences including: working on a cruise ship, managing
a Dominos Pizza, being a published author and poet,
earning a Master’s Degree in Education, Hosting the Miss
Minnesota and Miss South Dakota USA pageants, being
a certified aerobics instructor, and much more allow him
to relate to almost any audience. Winner of many awards
including Speaker of the year by campusawards.com and
his favorite “Coolest Uncle” by his 7 year old nephew. His
finale “The Evolution of Dance” (a hilarious routine of the
last 50 years of popular dance moves) has been hailed as
“The funniest thing ever” and ends his shows on a super
high. From the moment he steps on stage until he dances
away his audiences are laughing and learning!
Programs
“Inspirational Comedy” - assembly and keynote
His most requested show – “Inspirational Comedy” is just
that – funny and inspiring! Judson talks about the two
main realities in life – 1. There are things in life that you
cannot change. 2. There are things in life that you can
change. By helping students to understand the difference
between the two and by showing them how to control
the things they can Judson gives students the simplest
formula for creating the life they want. You can create
any change in your life through the choices you make.
This program can be molded for many different topics
with specific examples and explanations and has been
presented on bullying and respect, alcohol and drugs,
general motivation, classroom commitment, and much
more. Capped with “The Evolution of Dance” this program
is one that people never forget.

Justin Boudreau
Encouraging kids to think vs telling them what to think
Student Keynote: Be YOUnique
Justin Boudreau, known by
students as the “Dude Who
Changed My Life,” is ready to
take your event to the next level.
Justin brings his insightful “There
YOU Are” vision and his expertise
in HUM-ERGY (Humor & Energy)
to his mission of empowering
students to be their best.
At the age of 22, Justin fulfilled his childhood dream by
qualifying to compete in a professional beach volleyball
tournament. He proudly states: “Even though we lost (big time), I
know how it feels to make it to the top, and now I want to coach
students on how to reach their dreams.”
This former high school teacher, coach of the year, world
traveler, author, and musician, exudes a realness that students
don’t question. On stage, his heart (not his ego) will inspire your
students to worry less about being cool and focus more on
their future. Justin’s words will resonate with the entire audience
and motivate students to start accepting themselves and
understanding others.
Today’s teenagers have to deal with issues ranging from
anorexia and pregnancy to suicide and school shootings. The
increasing number of broken homes and divorces explain the
unprecedented percentage of students who choose to turn to
drugs, sex, and alcohol.
Teenagers don’t always see the link between today’s actions and
the consequences of tomorrow, so now is an opportunity for
students to discover their true self.
Justin’s keynote inspires students to Be YOUnique and
challenges them to accept themselves; understand others;
connect with and act on their dreams; deflate peer pressure; unclique and be real; and master school & life.
Educator Keynote: EDGE-ucator
Justin wastes no time getting participants’ attention with
statements like:
“I don’t believe in education.” Then, after a few
uncomfortable moments follows with;
“However, I do believe in educators/parents.
That is why I am presenting this keynote to you
instead of encyclopedias and dictionaries.”
Justin is the Founder & Executive Director of Gear UP for
Excellence, offering high quality, cost effective leadership
retreats and summer institutes for non-profit organizations and
student associations across the country. Justin is the co-author
of the book for teens Gearing Up: Inside & Out for a Great Life.
Justin’s humor continues to shine through as he shares his
experience as a successful coach. He believes every educator/
parent is a coach, they just don’t know it. Justin will inspire most
if not everyone attending to get their lives in shape by running
two marathons a year. Not with your legs but with your heart.
On February 14th, 2007, Justin created and launched “Calling
for Gratitude”, a campaign that is based on paying gratitude
forward. Since its inception, thousands of people from all over
the world have called the toll free gratitude hotline number
or posted a comment directly on the website. Despite being
an organic, word of mouth campaign, it has drawn attention
from newspapers and magazines in Canada and the US, even
attracting the attention of a Producer from “The Ellen Degeneres
Show.”
In closing, Justin shares a simple and effective model that will
make you reflect on the importance of building rapport with
youth.

Programs
What If Santa Had A Nose Ring?
(high school assemblies, conferences)
Life is about change. More than that, it is like riding a
bus – it requires change. In order to change the course
of a generation, we must start at the top. We hold the
key to giving our youth the passion for living. Let’s take
the key out of our pocket, open the lock and unleash an
excitement in our youth that will move them from where
they are, to where they dream to be – so they can live with
no regrets!
Bullies, Braces And Biology
(junior high school assemblies)
Justin provides tools that will help young people handle
the 3B’s that make junior high so tough. He sneaks hardhitting facts in between humorous hits. This is a high
speed presentation for a confusing time of life. Kids will
learn facts about alcohol, tobacco and inhalants. By the
time they are done, they won’t want anything to do with
the stuff and they will be able to handle peer pressure.
Dateable: Are You? Are They?
(high school assemblies)
The biggest issue derailing teen success and leadership is
their dating relationship. Their “crush” actually can crush
their future and spirit of adventure. This hard hitting talk
on teen dating will teach your students to stop lying to
themselves about his/her crush and start facing the truth.
Success With A Twist
(staff development)
This program will push your staff past gaining knowledge
into living life on purpose. It is part stand up comedy, part
ancient theory, part pearl-like-wisdom, all taught by your
worst hyperactive nightmare. Topics include commitment,
life-long learning, overcoming obstacles and reaching out
to others.

Matt Bellace
Comedy & Learning
Matt’s comedic style has been described as
sharp, honest and consistent with his message.
Dr. Bellace has more than fifteen years of drug and alcohol
prevention experience. In 1993, as a Bucknell University
sophomore, he founded a grassroots prevention group called
C.A.L.V.I.N. & H.O.B.B.E.S. (Creating, A, Lively, Valuable, Ingenious,
New, Habit, Of, Being, (at) Bucknell, (and) Enjoying, Sobriety).
Former Bucknell president William “Bro” Adams referred to the
organization as “revolutionary.” In 1996, the group moved into a
23-bedroom former fraternity house on campus, prompting US
News & World Report to remark, “…how times have changed.”
A member of the National Speakers Association, Matt has
been speaking professionally for over a twelve years. His “How
to Get High, Naturally!” program has been best described as
a combination of stand-up comedy, audience interaction
and inspirational stories. Dr. Bellace has spoken at national
conferences, such as Youth to Youth International, FCCLA and
SADD. His speaking schedule annually includes over 200 high
school and college programs.
Matt believes that stand-up comedy is the best vehicle for
delivering prevention information to youth. That is why when
he is not speaking you can find him performing at comedy clubs
and colleges around his home in New York City. Matt’s comedic
style has been described as sharp, honest and consistent with
his message. He has performed at the legendary Carolines on
Broadway, Stand-Up NY, The Comic Strip, and the 2005 Just For
Laughs Festival in Montreal. Additional credits for Matt include
truTV, National Public Radio, The New York Times and The
Philadelphia Inquirer. Matt’s stand-up can be heard regularly on
the comedy channels on Sirius XM Satellite radio.
In June 2005, Matt received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from
Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA). Dr. Bellace’s subspecialty is
pediatric neuropsychology, the study of the developing brain
and behavior. He completed internship at The Mount Sinai
Medical Center in Manhattan, working with patients on the
Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury units. Dr. Bellace’s
dissertation topic was emotional memory, an expertise that is
not lost when presenting to a youth audience. As a speaker,
Matt delivers an impactful program, using every aspect of his life
experience.

The Brain, Behavior and Addiction
This workshop is an interactive discussion of the detrimental effects
substance use can have on the human brain and behavior. Particular
emphasis is placed on new research that shows the adolescent brain
is impacted more seriously than the adult brain to substance abuse.
This is an audience-centered learning approach, where the audience
directs the learning the direction that interests them. The program can
be tailored for teacher and parent programs. Additional program topics
include Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood Disorders
and Traumatic Brain Injury.
Parent Program: Support Your Teen in Making Positive Choices
One of the most challenging times for parents is raising children
during the adolescent years. This program will focus on how parents
can communicate with their teens without arguing. Specifically,
it will present examples of how to communicate effectively about
responsibility, healthy coping skills and alcohol and drug use. In
addition, current research on adolescent brain development will be
presented. Dr. Bellace uses humor to convey his message, but also will
discuss using humor as a way to cope during difficult interactions.

Micah Jacobson
Childlike Enthusiasm
Violence! Drug addiction! Broken Families!
Racism! Micah Jacobson says, “It’s time for
some good news!” And that’s exactly what he
brings to each audience. Good news!
Discover JOY, WONDER and SUCCESS. The spirit of the five
year old you used to be, still lives inside!
In hundreds of presentations across America, Micah
has helped students use their own humor, energy and
enthusiasm to create a life that is full of joy, wonder and
success. With comedic flair and passionate intensity, Micah
brings to life childhood characters who help deliver his
message. He skillfully shares stories which offer students
a simple set of tools to help them write their own futures.
His creative approach works!
Micah holds BA Degrees in Politics, Philosophy and
Economics from Claremont Mc Kenna College. He has
been speaking since 1990 as a keynote speaker and a
leadership consultant. During the last 10 years, Micah
trained internationally in Russia, Brazil, Israel and Tanzania,
was a trainer with the United Nations Global Youth Forum,
and was selected as a Youth Trainer at two Global Youth
Summits.
With a unique background in cutting edge leadership
technologies and peer-to-peer training models, Micah can
design a program for your specific needs. For example,
using students from your school as trainers, a special
project can be useful to deal with an important issue in
a lasting way. Projects have included a “kindness” day at a
middle school, a “leadership” day at an elementary school,
club officers training at both high schools and colleges.
Micah can also customize an exciting and meaningful
inservice program and parent evening on a wide range of
topics, as shown in the Program section.
Programs
Being R.E.A.L.
(youth assemblies, conference keynotes, teacher inservices,
parent programs)
Being REAL is about discovering the person you most want to
be. It is Responding with Enthusiasm and Acting with Love.
Micah helps us remember the spirit of the child inside--the kid
who ran head first into the garbage can or had tea parties with
imaginary friends. At the same time, we need to know that we
cannot remain children our whole life. Throughout our lives, the
things we do leave a mark, often upon the hearts and minds of
those closest to us. Each day we can find enthusiasm--the spirit
to take on life’s hurdles. However, childlike enthusiasm can leave
us forever children if we forget to care for others. In a world that
believes only in itself, we need those among us who can reach
out more than ever. As growing adults, we must learn to care for
other’s needs and act constantly with love. Micah offers an adult
version of “Being R.E.A.L.” designed to engage and inspire those
who care for and work with young people.

Michael Karpovich
Yuk makes you stronger
Early in life, Michael Scott Karpovich learned that
strength comes from challenges. Childhood was
tough for Michael, as he faced the pain of being
called a “nerd” and was beaten-up by bullies. But
as he puts it, “Yuk makes you stronger.”
Michael was raised on a farm in mid-Michigan. His father
was a physicist and his mother a bacteriologist. Michael
says that he doesn’t know whether he was born or mixed!
At the age of four, a doctor diagnosed him with brain
damage but his parents refused to accept this evaluation.
Finally, a psychologist said that “he is either retarded or a
genius.” Michael says that he opted to be a genius! Many
years later, it was determined that he had no depth
perception and was dyslexic.
Described as “half Robin Williams and half Leo Bascaglia,”
he presents practical information, mixed with humor and
real-life experiences. His message changes how we live
and treat each other. Michael encourages “contagious”
self-esteem and leadership as he addresses difficult issues
facing each of us. He is frequently invited back to speak
on self-esteem, responsible decision-making, leadership,
prevention issues, mental health, avoiding burnout,
wellness and violence prevention.
Positive Peer Pressure (youth)
Learn how to develop and maintain healthy relationships.

Mike Lee
Dare To Dream
Often the center of attention,
Mike is hysterically funny,
a born jokester with a clever wit.
Mike Lee is the quintessential “all American” guy. He’s
into snow skiing, water skiing, surfing, bowling and golf.
His greatest sports passion is baseball, a game he both
follows and plays. Often the center of attention, Mike is
hysterically funny, a born jokester with a clever wit. Like
many All-American guys, Mike has a dog, but this isn’t just
any dog. He’s a working dog! In fact, the Fabulous Filbert
is an intrinsic part of Mike’s “Have Dog, Will Travel” message
because he’s a trained Guide Dog for the Blind.
Yes, Mike is blind, and that’s what gives him an enormous
vision to share! Since losing his sight in a terrifying
explosion and fire when he was 13, and recovering from
the aftermath of that incident, amazingly, Mike has learned
to accept his blindness and even see it as an asset. He
asserts that it’s all about how you look at things that
happen to you. More importantly, it’s what you choose to
do about it.
Instead of limiting himself, Mike is actively engaged in
life. Yes, he plays baseball, with a ball that beeps! His
amazing determination, sense of gratitude, and zest for
life are an inspiration to all who know him. Mike says, “I
once saw the world with my eyes and my brain. I now see
life in an exciting new way – with my ears and my heart.”
Experience life through his eyes and you’ll see things in a
whole new way.
How To Show the Way, According To Filbert: The Canine
Points Of Leadership (student workshop)
Filbert is a trained Guide Dog with nearly 25,000 hours of
leadership training! As interpreted by Mike, his right-hand man,
Filbert shares his secret Canine (K-9) Points of Leadership and
illustrates the art of making responsible choices. Yes, you too
will learn from the Fabulous Filbert – a true expert in the art of
leadership!
Better Understanding: Drawing On Strength From Within
(student, adult keynote)
Mike presents a new perspective on facing life’s challenges as
a cultural diversity issue. Cultural diversity is a good thing! If
we were all the same, there wouldn’t be anything we could
learn from each other! Mike also explores the human side of
physical challenges where tolerance and acceptance are the
key ingredients to evoking the true spirit of the Americans with
Disabilities Act. Isn’t it true that we all need to get in touch with
the physical and emotional limitations that we all have within?
Programs
Dare To Dream: Achieving Your Goals
(assemblies, conference keynotes for youth or adults)
After Mike was burned and blinded at 13, he had to develop the
determination to regain and build his self-esteem and positive
attitude toward life. Mike helps students find this same selfesteem and strength within themselves to face the challenges
of growing up without falling into the traps of peer-pressure
solutions. Mike’s unstoppable enthusiasm about just being alive
empowers young people to accept life on life’s terms and move
forward with strength and determination.

about the 21st Century and beyond!” Pat’s emphasis this year is
on ACADEMIC SUCCESS! His messages are designed to not only
help students do well in class, but to support your teachers, too!
Presentations
“EXPLODING OUT OF THE BLOCKS!”
The beginning of the school year is the best chance most
students have to get ahead academically. Pat reminds them that
this is the TIME to take the lead in the academic achievement
race by focusing on their grades and laying the early
groundwork for good study habits! There is plenty of humor in
this message, but the emphasis is clear: Get a great jump on
those A’s and B’s and don’t look back. The time to excel is NOW!
“IT’S WINNIN’ TIME!”
A second half challenge to remind your students that the school
year does not end in January! After winter break there is much
work to be done and Pat Hurley uses his stand up comedy to
motivate them to do it. His, “Second Wind” approach is based on
his success in high school in running the mile. He also compares
the challenge of accomplishment in class to championship
playoffs and entertaiment finals that young people can relate to
when it comes to winning! Highly motivational and FUN!
“THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE!”
In the past two years, Pat has challenged schools to raise their
API scores in statewide standardized testing. Of the 35 schools
he spoke to, 33 of them improved their scores. The other two
broke even. His approach is to motivate your school to be the
best in the district, each class level to test higher than each
other and for the individual student to achieve at a level beyond
the previous year. He will also work with you on incentives to
accomplish your testing result goals. Effective and inspirational.
“MAKE A DECISION—IT’S ONLY YOUR LIFE!”
Healthy choices are the frames for the pictures of success.
Pat emphasizes being an original person, taking personal
responsibility and doing the right thing in being a leader and
not a follower when it comes to peer pressure. A message your
students will remember when they are at the lifestyle crossroads
to apply these reminders from Pat Hurley.
“THE FOUR LOVES OF A LEADER!”
Pat uses humor to examine the four assets that separate leaders
from followers: Risk-taking, persistence, using failure to succeed
and being people-centered! Hilarious and powerful for your
student council leadership.
“OUR BEST FOR THEIR BEST!”
An all-staff challenge at the beginning of the year from the
superintendents to the bus drivers! Pat’s challenge, “Everyone’s
a TEACHER!” reminds secretaries, counselors, custodians,
cafeteria crews, coaches, aides and consultants that you do
not have to be in a classroom to affect the students at school.
He encourages everyone, with humor, to be the best they
can be on a DAILY basis, because young people deserve our
commitment to their education.
“GET A LIFE!”
A humor-based Top Ten List on stress management for your staff
or student leaders. Highlights include, “Do the Put off Thing!”,
“Go back to your Childhood!”, “Do one unselfish deed per day,”
“Reward yourself Daily!” and much, much more. Interactive and
entertaining involving the entire group!
“HOW TO GET ALONG WITH THOSE WHO DON’T DESERVE
IT!”
A fun management chart highlighting the four basic behavior
styles and how to get along with them! Ideal for adminstrative,
faculty or student council teams. Interactive and very funny
because it is so true. Very effective in building the leadership
team.
“THE SEVEN C’S OF EFFECTIVE TEACHERS!”
Pat mixes in stand up and interactive humor to motivate your
staff on being more effective in their classroom. He gives them
a set of concepts beginning with the letter, “C” to not only
make them laugh, but show them practical ways to challenge
students.

After several years of drugs, crime and violence
on the streets, Senor Chocolate (his gang name)
experienced a transformation.
He discovered real power through education.
Richard Santana was born in California and became the third
generation of his family to join one of the largest gangs in
the state. After several years of drugs, crime and violence on
the streets, Senor Chocolate (his gang name) experienced a
transformation. He discovered real power -- through education.
Education provided him with opportunities to achieve personal
and social growth.
Through positive leadership experiences and the learning
process, he eventually went to college. With a strong will and
a genuine commitment to make a difference in this world,
he graduated from Harvard University’s Graduate School of
Education, Human Development and Psychology / Risk and
Prevention Program in 1995. He credits education, community
programs, and teachers with paving the way from a life as Senor
Chocolate, the gang member -- to Richard Santana, the Harvard

The Change: From Third Generation Gang Member to
Harvard Graduate
(keynote address and workshops for students and adults)
Senor Chocolate, a tough-talking Latino gangster, arrives on
stage with trade-mark baggy pants, shades, trench coat and a
red bandanna. Using a thick Spanish accent to make his point,
he begins with accounts of his personal gang-life experiences
to illustrate gang attitudes and behaviors. He challenges his
audience to critically assess their own perceptions. He asks them
to acknowledge the fact that violence and hopelessness will
continue to affect our communities if apathy persists.
After sharing his gang-life experiences, Senor Chocolate
presents The Change; an apt metaphor long to be remembered.
While shedding his gang clothing, he explains The Change
that occurred in his life -- and can occur in anyone’s life. Richard
Santana emerges, dressed in a shirt and tie -- as a college
graduate, educator, counselor, colleague and friend.
Richard offers a unique opportunity to understand our diverse
schools and communities. Each program is adjusted to
accommodate a wide range of political climates, age groups
and audiences. The Change has been presented to audiences
of school teachers, school administrators, parents, teenagers,
school boards, college students, the District Attorney’s office,
and Law Enforcement Officers. The Change can be delivered as
a keynote or workshop with emphasis placed in many different
areas.

• Diversity
• Gangs
• Peer Pressure
• Contexts of Violence

question-and-answer session. For youth audiences, Richard
provides teachers with follow-up questions for classroom
discussion. Consider Richard for bilingual / bicultural programs,
school assemblies, inservice programs, leadership conferences,
convention general sessions and law enforcement agencies. An

Motivation with Mind Bending Fun!
Student Councils annual convention, plus several of the
association’s regional conferences, the national LEAD
conferences, by DECA, FLBA, and at high schools and
middle schools throughout the nation
Russ Peak walks on stage like any
other motivational speaker. He
carries with him a few simple items:
a pen, a newspaper, a drawing
pad, and a few envelopes. In just
moments, he proceeds to capture
the imaginations of the whole
audience as they realize they are
going on an interactive and mindboggling experience that they will
never forget!
You see... Russ Peak is recognized as one of the world’s
most skilled mentalists or “thought readers!” When Russ
takes the stage, it’s not just a performance, it’s a mindblowing presentation of the “IMPOSSIBLE.” Unspoken
thoughts are revealed from the minds of spectators, the
outcome of impossible situations are correctly predicted,
unseen designs are drawn and duplicated, and borrowed
objects are used in ways that can be only explained as
unbelievable. Yet, he clearly explains that he is not psychic,
nor does he possess any extraordinary or supernatural
powers. He uses these demonstrations of seemingly
extraordinary powers to captivate, entertain, inspire, and
teach that IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT, THEN ANYTHING
IS POSSIBLE!
Russ is a member of TV and Hollywood’s famous Magic
Castle. His programs have been featured at conferences
and conventions, on cruise ships and television, at
theme parks and fairs, in showrooms of Las Vegas and
for corporate giants. Every year he is featured at over
150 teen events including the National Association of
Programs
USE YOUR MIND (motivational keynote all ages)
Russ uses his ‘Magic of the Mind’ in a high-energy
presentation that will teach your audience that the
technique and discipline used to accomplish any feat is
within the grasp of each of us. We simply need to define
our goals, push beyond the limits, and establish a path
that leads to victory. A person can go through life trying
to predict the future - hoping and dreaming of what might
happen tomorrow – or they can decide what they want,
take control, and invent the future.
BELIEVE!
(motivational keynote all ages, workshop, staff session)
What power does belief play in your achievements? Can
negative beliefs hold you back from your dreams? How
can you identify and eliminate your negative beliefs and
replace them with new empowering beliefs that will
lead you to success? What would happen if you were to
really develop a sincere belief in your goals? Russ answers
these questions and more as he takes the audience on an
entertaining and truly transformational exploration into
the power of belief.
MIND GAMES: A COMEDY HYPNOTIST ACT (all ages)
Audience participation takes on a whole new meaning
when over thirty volunteers are selected from the
audience and quickly placed into a hypnotic trance. Then,
the laughter is non-stop as Russ’ subjects become the
stars of the show! They turn into their favorite celebrities,
meet visitors from different worlds, forget their names,
lose their belly buttons, travel back to their childhood,
become lifeguards, ballerinas, and savage barbarians, and
take place in the most captivating and hilarious hypnotic
experiments ever performed. This presentation is safe, fun,
and 100% clean!

Topic: Not Being Exclusive: By learning to include others
and incorporate others’ talents students will see that more
can be accomplished when working together.
Benefit: There are countless students that don’t feel like
they belong anywhere. When those students are included
a school is safer and a more positive experience for all.

Scott Greenberg
Leadership, Laughter, Living With Power
While attending film school at NYU, Scott
Greenberg was diagnosed with cancer. He
spent the next year battling for his life. It was
during this time that Scott discovered the
power of laughter and attitude.
While attending film school at NYU, Scott Greenberg was
diagnosed with cancer. He spent the next year battling
for his life. It was during this time that Scott discovered
the power of laughter and attitude. Inspired by his
grandmother, a holocaust survivor on “Schindler’s List,” he
conquered the disease and went on to complete the Los
Angeles Marathon. Like his grandmother, Scott learned to
bounce back and turn adversity into opportunity!
Scott Greenberg will NOT motivate you! He’ll help you
motivate yourself. With a background in filmmaking,
creative writing and comedy, Scott is a master storyteller.
Add to that over 15 years in leadership training and
professional life-coaching, Scott will give your group
the ‘nuts and bolts’ techniques to live more powerfully.
His down-to-earth style lights up enthusiastic audience
members, while also connecting with the more cynical
students (and teachers!) who aren’t easily won over.
Whether you’re looking for entertainment, information
or tone setting for your event, Scott will get your group
laughing, feeling and thinking. And unlike a lot of feel
good and forget presentations, Scott’s programs empower
audiences to act. He’ll also stay to teach workshops, visits
classes or speak one-on-one to students.
Programs
Bouncing Back
(student assemblies, conference keynote, teacher
inservice)
By sharing his real-life experiences, Scott demonstrates
how strong and powerful we ALL are. Learn specific
techniques for managing adversity and how the use of
your own sense of humor and positive attitude can release
your inner strength. Audience members walk away with
renewed optimism and excitement for their lives. But this
presentation will do more than make you feel good. It’ll
also give you a real-world look at problems and how to
cope with them. Scott will customize his presentation
based on the needs of your group. He can incorporate
messages of: leadership, attitude, making good choices
(including drugs and alcohol resistance), overcoming
adversity, power of humor and embracing life.
Diversity, Tolerance & Unity
(assemblies, keynotes, and workshops)
Intolerance goes way beyond race and skin color. It also
seeps into classes, clubs and cliques. Now more than
ever we need increased unity in schools. If it’s true that
“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,” then school
should be as much about friendship as it is academics. As
a former program facilitator for the Los Angeles Museum
of Tolerance, Scott Greenberg will remind students of the
importance of mutual respect, courtesy and school unity.
He’ll discuss the unreliability of stereotyping and why we
must get to know someone before rushing to judgment.
Students will learn how they benefit from a little kindness
and how they may live to regret the bridges they burn.
Student Leadership Training & Teambuilding
(keynotes and workshops)
Scott can design a leadership-training program for your
students and give them skills they’ll use for a lifetime.

Shari Rusch
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones
In first grade, professional evaluations concluded
that Shari Rusch could not be educated beyond a
fifth grade level. They were wrong!
Shari refused to allow this assessment, her learning
disabilities, or any other handicap to become a
stumbling block to the realization of her dreams.
With determination and the help of teachers, peers
and family members, Shari overcame a number of
challenges to finish high school with a 3.98 GPA
and then graduate with Honors from the University
of Washington. Shari holds a Masters Degree in
Education with emphasis on At Risk Students
and Multicultural Issues, and has published the
inspirational book, Stumbling Blocks to Stepping
Stones.
Programs
Shari’s triumphant struggle with learning disabilities is
only part of her story. Like so many children today, her
childhood included the challenges of the “latchkey
kid,” coping with divorce, separation, blended families,
and economic insecurity. Additionally, Shari faced
the loss of a loved one through suicide and includes
a courageous, no-nonsense suicide prevention piece
among her program topics.
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones (teachers,
administrators, parents)
Having overcome personal handicaps and learning
disabilities to become a successful writer and
educator, Shari is able to offer wisdom and insights
from three perspectives (teacher, student, and parent)
on education, motivation and the special needs of
all students. She emphasizes the powerful difference
one educator or one parent can make. Shari brings
a personal spark to such topics as the “hidden
handicaps,” finding potential in every child, positive
parenting and strategies for the success of every
child.
Shari is a professional singer and songwriter who
shares her story in a lively presentation which
includes both humor and music. Her message
touches the hearts and lives of all ages with a
special warmth that inspires and empowers! From
hyperactive, dyslexic, visually impaired, “latchkey”
child, to author, lecturer, and teacher, Shari believes
that, “No matter where you come from, no matter
what challenges you face, every person has gifts,
talents and a purpose in this life. Don’t ever give up
on your dreams.
Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones (youth)
With both words and music, Shari encourages
students to take the obstacles in their lives and use
them as stepping stones to a greater sense of selfworth and “abilities awareness.” Shari also emphasizes
the importance of using the positive people
and opportunities in one’s life to help overcome
challenges. She easily folds in topics such as drug and
alcohol awareness, suicide prevention, leadership
skills and college/career motivation.

Choices / Consequences
In ‘The CHOICES’ School
Assembly, Steve draws example
after example from his own
experiences, from nightclub
gigs while still in high school
- to studio work - to entertaining
some of the top names in movies
and television.
Teens respond positively and
decisively as they identify with
his lifestyle values and apply
them in their own lives. Steve
dramatically reinforces the
need for value-driven personal
relationships and for completing
high school successfully.
He contrasts these with
the disastrous damage to
relationships as a result of drug
use, alcohol abuse, violence,
pre-marital sex, and suicide.

Tiana Tozer
The Journey from 6 Foot 1 to 4 Foot 5
Tiana’s message can be altered to meet the
needs of various school climates, age groups
and purposes.
Tiana Tozer was born in Eugene, Oregon and raised
on a farm outside of Boise, Idaho. After a fairly normal
childhood, Tiana went to college at the University of
Oregon. In her sophomore year, Tiana was run over by
an intoxicated driver. She spent a month and five days
in intensive care and has undergone 34 surgeries.
After four years of struggling to walk, Tiana learned
that a wheelchair would become a permanent part of
her life.
While doctors worked on her physically, Tiana worked
to heal herself emotionally by sharing her experiences
with high school students throughout Oregon. She
went on to graduate school at the University of Illinois
where she played wheelchair basketball. In her sport,
Tiana holds four national titles, a silver medal from
the Barcelona Paralympics and a bronze medal from
Atlanta. In 1993 she graduated from the University of
Illinois with a MA in International Relations.
As a speaker, Tiana shares her journey of recovery.
Using personal experiences, she challenges people
to look closely at America’s drug of choice -- alcohol.
She addresses taking responsibility for your choices,
self-image, and how athletics and alcohol do not mix.
Tiana’s message can be altered to meet the needs of
various school climates, age groups and purposes.
about how she lost her freedom to stand tall and
walk. Tiana continues to capture the audience as she
shares her recovery journey -- the victories and the
setbacks. Skillfully, she then challenges the student’s
complacency towards the legal drug of alcohol.
After sharing her hospital stories, Tiana illustrates the
power of choices through role playing with audience
volunteers. She speaks about the unimportance
of physical looks, emphasizing the importance of
actions and behavior. Tiana will affirm everyone’s
power to make choices and then challenges them
to accept responsibility for their choices -- past and
those to come.
Tiana offers unique insight into what happens after
the party. She has spoken at hundreds of high schools
for MADD, she has presented at student leadership
conferences, judicial conferences, pre-prom and Red
Ribbon Week programs, and she lobbied for the .08
law in Idaho, Illinois and Nevada.
In “Taking the Stairs” Tiana can focus on:
• Drinking and Driving
• Drug Use
• Peer Pressure
• Self-Image
Programs
• Athletes and Alcohol
Taking the Stairs (youth and adults)
Tiana Tozer “wheels” on stage and immediately puts
her audience at ease by addressing the humorous
issues of her disability. She explains that although
many funny things have happened to her since she
has been in a wheelchair, there is nothing humorous

Tim Gabrielson
Sometimes You Just Gotta Laugh
leadership conference, inservice or convention. “I
have a clean show. I strive on going to the edge but
never going over. I enjoy pushing people’s limits of
laughter.”
Magic is mysterious, inexplicable
and wondrous. Yet it is primarily
the magician not the magic itself
that we remember.
Tim Gabrielson is no exception. Adept at the
intricacies of magic, this Minnesota native entertains
by more than just demonstrating his finesse at
slight-of-hand. He also adds to the mix a winning
personality, unheralded talent, and spot-on comedic
timing. For Tim, the pursuit, practice and perfection
of magic are life-long passions.
Mesmerized by magic at the age of 4, Tim spent his
childhood acquiring one trick after another. It wasn’t
until he was 16, when he began work as an actor,
at a theme park, that he realized that magic could
become his way of life. It was the theme park that
led him to discover his ability to make people laugh.
Instead of opting for the typical magician’s route of
razzle-dazzle with top hat and tails, he integrated
comedy as a key element in his entertainment
equation.
Fun, fast and frantic – that’s Tim Gabrielson in a
nutshell. The gleam in his eye reveals the depth of
his passion for his profession. “This is my calling. This
is what I’m supposed to do – entertain people, make
them laugh.” He pauses for a bit of reflection. “For the
rest of my life, I want to touch people’s lives.” And he
does – with every trick in the book.
Tim has appeared on national television and was
flown to Los Angeles to appear on the Jerry Lewis
Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. He has even appeared
on E! Entertainment’s Talk Soup. Recently, Tim was
named one of the top 10 comedy entertainers by
Campus Activity magazine.
Programs
Keep It Funny (student assemblies, conference

Using his quick wit, dry sense of humor and
captivating delivery, he presents a high energy, side
splitting comedy and magic show appropriate for all
ages. Tim’s audience driven, interactive performance
will leave everyone in an uncontrollable state of
laughter. Pure entertainment!
Tim has become one of the Midwest’s busiest
entertainers, working more than 200 shows a year.
He prides himself on providing entertainment for all
ages and tailors each show to its specific audience,

Willie Lopez
and director of “Teatro de Las Cucarachas” which toured
the United States, Mexico and Central America.
Having had extensive experience
as a storyteller, Willie is able to
capture his audience through
colorful illustrations of his personal
real life experiences.
Willie Lopez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Like many other immigrants, he came to the “El Norte”
(America) as a child with his parents hoping for a better
way of life. Willie spent most of his childhood in hiding
from “La Migra,” the immigration. Throughout his formative
years, he was constantly exposed to the harsh reality of
farm labor work, gangs, drugs, and discrimination. With the
help of family and strangers, he eventually escaped that
life.
“Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who YOU are.”
He credits his success to his parents and various strangers.
His father provided patience and humility. His mother
gave him strength and confidence. Complete strangers
showed him how words and simple actions can make a
difference. When he once asked how he could return the
favor, he was told to return it to someone else. He did! That
same advise is the core of his message. The power of those
simple words changed his life completely.
Having had extensive experience as a storyteller, Willie is
able to capture his audience through colorful illustrations
of his personal real life experiences. Willie is a master at
transforming himself on stage from a compesino (farm
worker), to a homeboy (gang member), to a child named
“Zapotitos”, Lil Tadpole. Willie is bilingual/bicultural in
Spanish. He has served as professor at California State
University in Fresno, trainer for the State Office of AIDS,
counselor for Fresno County Human Services System,
technical assistant for California Department of Education,
Programs
CHOICES: You Can Be Part of the Solution or Part of
the Problem
(keynotes and workshops for students, educators, school
administrators, parents)
Guillermo “Willie” Lopez, from Huichole Mexican Indian heritage,
dressed in humble attire, enters with a silent and mysterious
presence. His deceptive appearance quickly reveals his wit and
ability to immediately capture your interest. Using the skills of
the ancient art of story telling through humor and intrigue, he
then lays the foundation of his message. He paints the mental
pictures of how to effectively incorporate old customs with
present values. The wisdom of his words soon takes his audience
into a roller coaster ride of emotions. Willie reveals his message
of hope and what it takes to achieve it.
The CHOICES he made in his confrontations with “los Federales”
(the Mexican police), “las Pandillas” (the gangs) in California, and
“la Migra” (the immigration) allows Mr. Lopez to explain how
one can overcome the odds. Through the transformation from
campesino, to homeboy, to a child seeking answers, he is able
to depict the different stages in his life. Willie’s experiences and
CHOICES he made as a professor at a University, an inmate in
a correctional institution, and his association with heroin and
violence also adds to his unique understanding of every level of
society.
Topics he can include in a CHOICES presentation include:
• Gang Prevention
• Conflict Resolution
• Teen Pregnancy
• Drug and Alcohol Issues
• HIV/AIDS
• Parent/Child Communication
• Youth Conflicts.

TIPS
FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM
A checklist from The Fisher Agency

BEFORE THE PROGRAM
In order to secure the date on the speaker’s calendar, review
the Program Agreement, sign and return one copy to The Fisher
Agency [TFA]. Begin to process the paperwork for payment, as
indicated in the Program Agreement terms.
If the speaker has supplied press release information, you are
welcome to submit it to your local television and new paper outlets.
Speakers welcome the opportunity to support your event through
media coverage.
Assign a technical assistant who is knowledgeable about lighting
and audio equipment to assist the speaker throughout the program.
Also, select a dynamic personality to read the introduction provided
by the speaker.
If your speaker has requested additional audio-visual equipment,
please make arrangement in advance. If your sound system and
microphone are not adequate, borrow or rent a quality system.
Good sound is crucial to the success of your program! Supply either
a cordless microphone or a hand held stand microphone with 50
to 100 feet of cord. In most cases, the speaker will ask to have the
podium moved off stage.
Coordinate all logistics with TFA. If required, make hotel
arrangement for a non-smoking room, secure the room for late
arrival and provide TFA with a confirmation number. Check
that you have flight information from TFA and that all ground
transportation has been coordinated. If the speaker is driving to
your event, please provide map and written directions to the hotel
and to the speech location.

DAY OF THE PROGRAM
Upon arrival [30 to 45 minutes early] the speaker will want to work
with the technical assistant to check the sound system, microphone,
cord, lights, room temperature, etc. Each speaker will explain their
preference for stage and room lighting [spotlight, stage, full house.]
If using the gymnasium, use full lighting. If your gym has mercury
lighting, turn the lights on early to allow for warm-up time. Ask the
technical assistant to play upbeat music through the sound system
as attendees enter and leave the auditorium.
The speaker will expect the contact person and technical assistant
to listen for and eliminate disturbing noises before and during the
program [weed blowers, lawn mowers, overhead exhaust, heater
fans, loudspeaker announcements, bells, hallway noises, etc.]
Not only do we want your audience to hear the speaker without
a problem, speakers must protect their voices. Please provide the
speaker with a bottle of water.
Have the audience seated in time so that the speaker can present
the entire program without having to cut material or go over time.
If the audience consists of students, ask teachers and advisors to sit
among them. Seat the front/center section of the auditorium first.
Do not allow the audience to scatter throughout the auditorium.
If using the gymnasium, please make every effort to seat the
audience on one side of the gym. The overflow can sit in chairs or
on the floor. Whenever possible, speakers want to avoid having
their backs to part of the audience. The introduction should begin
only after the room is quiet. Read the introduction exactly as written
or follow instructions given by the speaker.
Final fee payment is due to the speaker on the program date
unless other arrangements have been secured with TFA. A travel
invoice will follow the event. Speakers prepay many airfares far
in advance, therefore, prompt payment is requested and greatly
appreciated.
AFTER THE PROGRAM
For school assemblies, teachers are encouraged to conduct a follow
up lesson with the students. Students and teachers are welcome to
write the speaker to express feelings and opinions. Your opinions
are very important to TFA! Please send your comments to TFA to
assist in the professional development of each speaker.
