Who We Are and What We Do
The Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Newfoundland and Labrador
(CHBA-NL) is the voice of the province’s residential construction industry.
Membership includes new home builders, renovators, developers, trade
contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, lenders, and other professionals –
the companies and people who provide the province with quality housing.
Members commit to act with integrity and professionalism in all aspects of
their company’s operations.
The CHBA-NL serves both consumers and producers of housing by promoting
quality, affordability, and choice in housing for all Newfoundlanders and
Labradoreans.
CHBA-NL members contribute real solutions and make positive changes
that promote and protect the interests of the industry and consumers by
working with municipal, provincial, and federal governments in the areas of
critical importance - labour market needs, government-imposed costs, the
underground economy, and housing affordability.
The CHBA-NL also hosts the annual Home Show, reputed for being the
province’s largest building and renovation show, serving as a spotlight for
sharing information on energy efficiency, healthy housing, and the value of
doing business with professional product and service providers.

CHBA-NL Code of Ethics
Members shall comply with the National Building Code of Canada
as a minimum standard for construction and shall work towards its
improvement in the interests of structural sufficiency, safety, and
health.
Members shall plan their sites and homes to conform to the principles
of good community planning.
Members shall deal justly with their employees, subcontractors, and
suppliers.
Members shall deal honestly and fairly with their customers.
Members shall cooperate to extend the effectiveness of the Association
by exchanging information and experience, and encourage research
on materials and techniques in order to provide the best value for their
customers.
Members shall uphold the principle of appropriate and adequate
compensation for the services they render.
Members shall avoid all conduct or practice detrimental to the home
building industry, to the Association, to the good name or reputation of
any of its members, or to customers.
These responsibilities are freely and solemnly assumed as they form
part of an obligation as members.
MasterBuilder
Master Builder Certification is a province-wide program offering builders
and developers a special distinction for meeting strict standards,
recognizing them as home-building experts operating at the highest
standards the industry has to offer.
In order to earn Certification, a builder or developer must meet strict criteria
put in place by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association - Newfoundland
and Labrador (CHBA-NL):
1.
Two-year membership with the CHBA-NL
2.
In good standing with a recognized warranty program
3.
Five years of residential construction experience
4.
Provide a Letter of Solvency
5.
Implements a recognized Quality Assurance Program
6.
COR Certification
7.
R-2000/ERS Certification
8.
Red Seal or journeyperson(s), engineer, CET, or architect on staff
9.
Undertakes annual professional development for staff
10. Completion of courses recommended by the CHBA-NL

RenoMark
RenoMark™ is a nationally recognized program consisting of a searchable
database of renovators known for their professionalism and customer
service. It raises the bar by requiring renovation contractors to abide by the
Canadian Home Builders’ Association - NL’s (CHBA-NL) Code of Ethics and a
renovation-specific Code of Conduct.
In order to qualify for RenoMark™ registration, a CHBA-NL member must:
1.
Be a member in good standing of the CHBA-NL
2.
Abide by the CHBA-NL Code of Ethics
3.
Provide a detailed, written contract (including scope of work) for all jobs
4.
Offer a minimum two year warranty on all work (excludes minor
home repair)
5.
Carry a minimum of $2 million liability insurance
6.
Have coverage for workplace safety and employers’ liability and/or
work only with subcontractors who carry such coverage
7.
Carry applicable licenses and permits
8.
Have access to information, education, training and professional
development through membership in CHBA-NL
9.
Maintain a safe and organized worksite
10. Return phone calls within two business days

R-2000
The R-2000 and EnerGuide for houses programs help customers recognize
the value of investment in energy efficiency. These programs educate the
builders and homebuyers about energy efficient products that will help make
cost effective upgrades in new home construction.
An R-2000 or EnerGuide for new houses home can only receive an energy
rating if it has been built by a trained and certified builder and has been
registered through Natural Resources Canada.

An occupational health and safety accreditation program that verifies a fully
implemented safety & health program which meets national standards.

The RenoMark™ symbol is a nationally recognized brand that identifies those
