TD-LTE Live HD TV Broadcasting:
Xiamen International Marathon 2013
TD-LTE technology has successfully been used for Live TV Broadcast
On January 5, China Mobile’s TD-LTE network transmitted a live video
stream of the Xiamen International Marathon to TV centers of China
Central TV and Xiamen TV for live broadcasting. The TD-LTE network, solely
built by Nokia Siemens Networks, exceeded required parameters to
transmit high-definition (HD) video and images from cameras on the move,
providing the best live TV experience, matching a relay via satellite.
•Optimal network performance with ultra high-quality and reliability
•No degradation in network performance, no packet loss and no delay
•Stable uplink throughput of 5Mbps

TD-LTE Micro eNB & Relay:
Outdoor Trial Test Results
Trial test of TD-LTE Integrated eNodeB in Guangzhou
From Dec. 2012 to Jan. 2013, China Mobile Research
Institute, China Mobile Guangdong and ZTE Corporation
finished the field trial of the TD-LTE Integrated Micro
eNodeB. The test items investigate the effect of coverage
enhancement of Micro eNB for coverage hole and hot
spot in the urban area.
For coverage hole: Significantly improve RSRP, SINR and
throughput by the Integrated Micro eNodeB.
For hot spot: Increase the throughput by 105% after
introducing the Integrated Micro eNB. Different frequency
deployment is better than using the same spectrum.
The test results demonstrate that TD-LTE Integrated Micro
eNodeB can effectively improve the coverage for dead
zone and increase the throughput for hot spot, and has
the value to be commercialized in large-scale.
2nd GTI
Workshop
Trial
test
of Relay in Guangzhou
1. Completion of field trial of Relay:
In Feb. 2013, CMCC and ZTE launched and finished the
first trial test of preliminary commercial TD-LTE Relay
product in Guangzhou, in order to explore and verify the
advantages of Relay in the practical network.
06
2. Findings from Relay trial test:
 Features of current Relay product:
• Small size (<10L), no need for machine room,
easy & flexible to deploy
• Support LOS /NLOS wireless backhaul
• No need for isolation between backhaul antenna
and access antenna
 Benefits for the network from Relay deployment:
• Remove coverage hole in urban area without
harm to cell throughput
• Improve indoor coverage for indoor users
demanding high speed service
• Effective in the area where difficult/expensive to
deploy wired backhaul
Industry
Progress of TD-LTE Inter-RAT Conformance
Testing in GCF
WI-096 & WI-097: the two new activated work items of TD-LTE in GCF
• With the great efforts of Test platform vendors and the growth of TD-LTE
multi-mode devices, the test platforms for WI-096 and WI-097 for EPS
TDD/UMTS TDD and EPS TDD/GERAN Inter-RAT conformance testing
reached the Test Platform Approval Criteria (TPAC) for all TDD bands, B38,
B39 and B40, at GCF CAG #33 meeting, January 2013. They are to verify
inter-RAT interoperability functionality of TD-LTE devices, i.e. PLMM
selection, cell reselection, measurement, handover and redirection etc.
• Whilst WI-099, the work item for EPS/UMTS/GERAN Multi-RAT
Conformance Testing, remains in inactive state, and therefore it requires
continuous resources and efforts from the industry to be activated.
EPS TDD
UMTS TDD
GERAN
WI-096: EPS TDD/UMTS TDD Inter-RAT Protocol Conformance Testing
• WI-096, consisting of 70 test cases covering mobility scenarios for EPS
TDD to/from UMTS TDD in various RAT/Band combinations, becomes active
with thanks to all Representative test cases of Priority 1 validated. This Test
Platform Approval Criteria (TPAC) turns valid, which indicates the test
environment is initially ready for TD-LTE device certification and the
certification entry “opens”.
WI-097: EPS TDD/GERAN Inter-RAT Protocol Conformance Testing
• WI-097 to verify mobility scenarios for EPS TDD to/from GERAN is active
as well, which makes the certification for such multi-mode devices ready.
With the progress of TD-LTE industry, more TD-LTE multi-mode devices will
emerge and benefit from the two activated work items.

TD-LTE Progress In Carrier Aggregation
and Inter Working
Huawei Showcases 4-Carrier Aggregation for LTE TDD
Huawei showcased its 4-Carrier Aggregation (CA) solution for LTE TDD at the 2013
Mobile World Congress. Utilizing leading 4×4 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)
technologies, the solution provides 1 Gb/s data speed. It establishes a wideband
network benchmark, allowing a single user to enjoy higher data speeds on an LTE TDD
network than previously possible.
Huawei’s 4-CA solution for LTE TDD is a part of the GigaSite solution for meeting
growing end users demands for higher data speeds. It employs a series of Ultraband
RRUs which support 80 MHz and can expand to four carriers with only software
upgrades to achieve a 1 Gb/s data speed. Huawei has also launched a similar series of
Wideband RRUs for China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network. The 4-CA solution highlights
the importance of wireless network equipment supporting multiple broadband
frequencies in order to build easy-to-deploy networks that are suited for long-term
development.
2nd GTI Workshop
Rohde
& Schwarz delivers validated Test Cases for LTE FDD / TD-LTE
Rohde & Schwarz provided validated Test Cases for the GCF (Global Certification Forum)
Rel-9 Work Item 151 "E-UTRA/EPC Dual mode (FDD/TDD) Rel-9”.
This achievement represents another major milestone to ensure the interworking
between the 2 modes of the truly global radio technology LTE (FDD and TDD) and to
strengthen the LTE ecosystem.
These validated test cases are split into RRM and Protocol Test Cases. And the first test
cases in GCF Work Item 151-7-40 (FDD Band 7 and TDD Band 40) and GCF WI-151-2541 (FDD Band 25 and TDD Band 41) have been validated. Rohde & Schwarz obtained
the highest completion rate in the official GCF status of validation (end of March 2013).
The first dual mode LTE FDD Band 25 and TDD Band 41 network is planned in the USA.
In addition several operators are planning similar dual-mode networks in other regions
of the world, such as Asia and Europe with other band combinations, due to the
availability of both FDD and TDD spectrum and dual mode UEs. Band combination LTE
FDD Band 7 and TDD Band 40 are planned in particular in China.
