Sharing the Gospel with people can be hard. Questions immediately hit our heads
like: What if I don’t have all the answers? What if I say the wrong thing? What if
the person gets mad at me? What if I chase the person farther away from Christ?
Our fears and questions about evangelism can mean that we do nothing at all.
What does the Bible say? ‘How then will they call on Him in whom they have not
believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard?‘
We are called upon to be the ones who go out into our everyday lives to speak and
to live for Christ.
More and more people need to hear about Christ right here in our community.
According to Lutheran Hour Ministries, one in four American teens and young
adults claim no religious connection whatsoever. How will they hear the message of
salvation through Jesus Christ if no one reaches them? As a follower of Jesus, you
have been commissioned to make disciples of all nations. So how do we
accomplish this task?
On Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9am to 2pm, Zion will be hosting a
Mission U Seminar entitled, “Equipping To Share: Everyday Evangelism”. A
presenter from The Lutheran Hour will be here to give us all some training in
sharing the Word of God. Here are some topics we will cover that day:
*Hindrances and Obstacles to Sharing our Faith
*The Message we Have to Share
*Everyday Opportunities for Sharing
*Witnessing to Family & Friends
Please mark your calendars for this important topic! Everyone is invited! You have
been called by Christ! You have been sent to share!
More information regarding registration will be coming soon.

Small Group Ministry - Life Groups At Zion Lutheran Church……..
What is a Life Group? Here at Zion we have lots of Bible studies going on all the time. A Life Group is a little different than just a Bible study at
church. Most Life Groups meet outside the church in people’s homes or even at a restaurant. It is a group of people that commit to meeting
together to study God’s Word, grow in fellowship with one another, pray together, care for one another, service together, and birth other Life
Groups. It is a wonderful time to grow in God’s grace with a smaller group of people. If you are not a part of a Life Group think about it. Talk to
Pastor Jason for more info at [email protected] or 861-5544
Current Life Groups at Zion are:
Bussell Life Group
Grotelueschen Life Group
Schumacher Life Group
INSPIRE: Inspired by the Spirit to serve one another and grow together in God’s Word and fellowship! Inspire is a small group for young
couples! Interested? Contact Jena or Carl Schumacher at 317-359-1345 or [email protected].
Sombke/Taylor Life Group
Families with children meeting around God’s Word
GodParent Groups are similar to Life Groups, but they are designed to reach high school students.

Eight Mission Grants were chosen by the voting body at the Indiana District Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League Convention in Lafayette, Indiana, in June. The total collected
from your Mite Box donations and given away was $92,455.65. The grants were given to –
 Papua, New Guinea Mission Society
 Lutheran Military Veterans and Families Ministries, Inc.
 Chinese Outreach in Bloomington and Columbus, Indiana
 Orphan Grain Train
 Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Food & Clothing Co-op
 Bible Women: Women Mentoring Women
 Calvary India Mission
 Worship for Shut-ins
In addition to the above grants, an amount of $6,000 was given to “Engaging the Field” LWML Indiana District Outreach – support
for encouraging mission and ministry within our district through hands-on servant events and mission trips. (This is an automatic
biennial grant.) The coins, checks, and bills you put into your Mite Boxes will be used to fund these mission grants. Continue to
fill your Mite Boxes and deposit them into the Large Mite Box in the Gathering Room. Do you use Amazon to do your shopping?
If so, you can support LWML at the same time because our organization is now included in the list of charities on the Amazon
website. This is how it works. Go to smile.amazon.com to log on to your Amazon account. To select your charity go to “Your
Account” in the upper right corner of the site page. LWML is listed with the St. Louis, Missouri, address. (There are many
Lutheran groups listed.) Click the yellow “select” button and begin shopping! Once you set this up, every time you login to
smile.amazon.com, 1/2% of your eligible purchases will be donated to LWML.
Join us in August for a women’s Bible study breakfast on Saturday, August 23rd from 9-10:30 a.m.
The Joy Group…the name for “Over 55” Zion Members.
May you live every
day of your life with
Joy.
The next Joy Group will meet on Thursday, September 4, at 12:00 noon in the BACK
ROOM of Sero’s Family Dining, in Cumberland, Indiana. Yes, we have the BACK
DINING ROOM reserved for our luncheon. Please try to attend.
Engaging Quotes:
 Living in the past paralyzes the present and bankrupts the future.
 I’m not aging – I’m marinating.
 If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would have put them on my knees.
 The real reason old men date young women is they need someone who can drive at
night.
 An archaeologist is the best husband any woman could have. The older she gets,
the more interested he is in her.
Put Joy in the world one smile at a time!

Zion School News
Sharing His Story - 2014-2015
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from
childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ
Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in
righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”
II Timothy 3:14-17
Our theme for the school year is Sharing His Story. We continue through His Word and look at His Story. With the
students we will look at God’s Story, our Story, and His plan for Sharing His Story with others. We will look at living
out His Story in our daily lives and sharing it with others.
A Plan for a New School Year
We are excited to begin another school year at Zion. Many preparations have gone into the new year. We will focus
on God’s plan for Zion as we work through our Accreditation year with NLSA. This is an exciting time to review the
things we currently do at Zion and set our goals for the next five years. We will also be preparing for new technology
in our classrooms as the faculty is trained in using more technology in the classroom, training students, and preparing
for the changes.
First Days of School
The K-8 Students will have their First Day of School on Wednesday, August 6th. Students will begin their day with
chapel as we start off the new year in worship together. Preschool will begin on Monday, August 18th.
Final Registrations
Elementary - The K-8 will have Final Registration on Thursday, July 31st. Families will come and complete final
paperwork, pay fees, and visit their classrooms. Registration is from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. This is required for all families
with students in K-8th grade.
Preschool - Final Registration for Preschool classes is on Wednesday, August 13th. Families will come and register,
turn in supplies, and meet with the Principal and Director. Students will have an opportunity to play and enjoy
getting to know their new friends. Preschool 3’s at 5:30 and Pre-K at 7:00 p.m.
Back To School Hot Dog Roast
We invite you to the Annual PTL Hot Dog Roast on Friday, August 15th at 5:30 p.m. Families will have an opportunity
to meet other school families, enjoy games, and a hot dog roast. PTL will provide hot dogs, condiments, drinks, and
table service. Each family is asked to bring two items to share with others.
Bowl-A-Thon
The 3rd Annual Bowl-A-Thon is set for Friday, September 5th. Mark your calendars now and form your teams as you
prepare to join us for our annual Fund Raising Family Activity. Funds will go toward the mulch for the new
playground. A special thank you to Strike Force Lanes for partnering with us in our efforts. Prizes will be awarded to
Students, families, and teams this year.
