uilt in 1814 as a strategic outpost for the British
Royal Navy, Royal Naval Dockyard played roles
in many historic events, including the War of
1812 and World War II. The monumental gates of H.M.
Dockyard swung open to the public in 1951, ending
some 150 years of service as the bastion of Royal Naval
power in the Western Atlantic. Visitors to the Dockyard
today will find the sweep of history all around them.
VENUES
Beautiful, historic and expansive exterior spaces make
the Royal Naval Dockyard one of Bermuda’s most
exciting venues for outdoor events. The Northern
Promenade Lawn and Clocktower Parade Lawns
offer over 20,000 square feet of space and boasts
as a backdrop the beautifully restored Great Eastern
Storehouse building, which is commonly known as the
Clocktower Building.
The National Museum of Bermuda, incorporating the
Bermuda Maritime Museum, is located within the high
ramparts of the Keep — a six-acre fort at the Royal Naval
Dockyard. It is one of the most historically spectacular
sites on the island. Off-site meetings and events for
smaller groups give attendees a glimpse into Bermuda’s
history in places like the Hall of History, a mural that
covers 1,000 square feet, by local artist Graham Foster
who spent 3 1/2 years painting the mural.

the Queen’s Exhibit Hall is a fantastic setting for parties
up to 100. The Commissioner’s House, which stands
majestically at the most western tip of the island,

Additional reception rooms, a serving kitchen,
elevator, ample restrooms and breathtaking views
from two wrapping verandas complete this exceptional
venue for parties of up to 200 people inside and 300
on the verandas.
Royal Naval Dockyard’s proximity to water services
means guests can arrive and depart by boat.
ACTIVITIES
The Dockyard is a haven for local artists and beautiful
artistry. Groups can marvel at the craftwork at The
Bermuda Craft Market. Candles, Bermudian cedar work,
ceramics, jewelry, fabric art, painted glassware, threedimensional decoupage, needlework canvas, Christmas
ornaments and quilts are some of the wares.
At Bermuda Clayworks, local artisans and potters
use a converted warehouse to craft floral-patterned
vases, and dishes featuring dolphins, Bermuda hibiscus,
cottages, lighthouses, gardens and many other motifs.
Artists demonstrate the process of glassblowing
and flameworking at Dockyard Glassworks, where a
large variety of handmade art glass is created daily.
Glass artists as well as apprentices work as a team to
produce hot furnace glass, flameworked glass, fused
glass jewelry and glass beads.
Art abounds in Bermuda and local artists’ works
are in the spotlight at the Bermuda Arts Centre at
Dockyard. Perfect for a group day trip or for small
group gatherings, the Arts Centre also hosts workshops
in watercolor and silk screen, among others, which can
be a great team building experience.
Shoppers will delight in the historic Clocktower
Mall, one of the Island’s most innovative examples of
preserving the past, where a variety of stores await.
With its two 100-foot towers, the mall is a Dockyard
landmark.
Visitors can experience a taste of the Islands at the
Bermuda Rum Cake Company. Baked in The Cakery,
a Bermuda style cottage, the micro-bakery creates
the famous Bermuda indulgence. Tastings allowed.
Golfers in the group won’t want to miss teeing
off at the oldest course in Bermuda. Just a short
distance from Dockyard in the western end of
the island, Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club has
5,800 harbour-hugging yards, which are daring and
breathtaking.

Since 2009, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf has been
held at the Port Royal Golf Course, a championship
course that has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of
the world’s best public courses. With Atlantic Ocean
views from nearly every hole, Port Royal is Bermuda’s
most picturesque course, plus it is known for its
stunning par-3 on the 16th hole. The course is open to
the elements, which makes for an exhilarating day on
the links. Planners can host a small gathering at The
Club at Port Royal.
Bermudian golfers describe Riddell’s Bay as “a real
gem” and a “must-play course.”
Winding along a peninsula, which at its widest
measures only about 600 yards, the par 70, 18-hole
course is renowned for its scenic delights and plenty of
challenges, including two ponds and three ocean holes.

On Black Bay Beach, less than a five minute ride
from Dockyard Wharf, there’s a guarantee of finding
treasure as sea glass is the attraction here. This is the
place for unwinding and rejuvenating among the tiny
beach’s calm waters and natural reefs.
The group can get together for daytime or
nighttime paddle boarding tours off Black Bay to
immerse themselves in the picturesque surroundings.
But it’s the sunset that draws the most attention: Black
Bay Beach, is known as Bermuda’s No. 1 location to
watch the sun set behind beautiful turquoise waters. l
Dolphin Quest, located at the National Museum of
Bermuda, is a great place for group activities and
team building. Groups get up close where they can
touch, swim and play with friendly dolphins. Team
building abounds in Lessons from Dolphins, a seminar
for professionals that combines the psychology of
dolphin training with practical ways to improve
in business. Socially conscious companies
will embrace the program since a portion of

conservation and research.
Snorkel Park Beach is another group
friendly adventure. Attendees can battle it out

40-foot and 60-foot power catamarans are

Fantasea Diving & Watersports, the only PADI
diving center in the Royal Naval Dockyard,
located at the Dockyard Watersports Centre,
also has beachside training for scuba lessons.
Groups can enjoy snorkeling, parasailing
or take a self-drive pontoon boat to explore
nearby secluded islands and beaches. There are
also eco-tours, kayaking, and glass-bottom boat
excursions. For an evening event on the water,
an unforgettable experience is the legendary
sunset rum cruises.

t. George’s is a “living” heritage experience
where history comes vividly to life amidst the
modern amenities and attractions of the town.
Joining an elite group of recognized world treasures,
the Historic Town of St. George is Bermuda’s UNESCO
World Heritage Site. The friendly walking city offers
an aesthetic treat. While Bermuda’s unique style of
architecture originated in St. George’s, buildings in the
town contain many features not found elsewhere on
the Island, such as high walls and gates, lateral steps
and distinct roof eaves.
VENUES
The beautiful and historic Town of St. George is a
special location for group events. Several extraordinary
venues can be rented including Somers’ Garden
and King’s Square. Somers’ Garden is a public park
maintained by the Corporation of St. George and is
reputedly the site where Admiral Sir George Somers’
heart was buried in 1610.
King’s Square has remained the focal point of the
town for hundreds of years and contains replica stocks,
a pillory, whipping post and ducking stool (once used
to punish female gossips) which are, perhaps, the

Enjoying St. George’s
The Queen’s Warehouse, built in 1860, was
renovated in 2005 to become the World Heritage
Centre (WHC), home of the St. George’s Foundation.
The forecourt has been completely remodeled, while
a new state-of-the-art lecture hall and new interactive
exhibits were completed in 2009, when the WHC

ATTRACTIONS
Completed by Christmas of 1612, St. Peter’s Church is the
oldest Anglican church in continuous use in the western
hemisphere. Behind the south churchyard is the Old
Rectory, built in the 18th century by pirate George Dew.
The Unfinished Church is one of the must sees in St.
George’s. In 1870, settlers started building an opulent
replacement to St. Peter’s Church, but poor planning left
it unfinished. The structure still stands, fortified by the
Bermuda National Trust, with only the sky as its ceiling.
St. George’s Historical Society Museum and
Mitchell House is one of the island’s most unique
institutions, as well as one of its oldest. Built in the
1730s by a prosperous St. George’s merchant, Major
Walter Mitchell, for his nephew William, Mitchell House
has retained all of its 18th century character and charm.
Furnished much as it was when it was a private home,
the typical Bermudian structure from the early 1700s
houses artifacts and documents pertaining to our
island’s earliest days.

The house is filled with period furniture, documents,
old letters, displays of pewter, china and rare books.
Perched about 208 feet above sea level on the
eastern tip of St. David’s Island in the parish of St.
George’s, St. David’s Lighthouse has been guiding
mariners since 1879. One of the most photographed
icons on the island, the 55-foot cylindrical tower is
built of white limestone; in the middle is a broad red
stripe. The lighthouse is open to the public from May
to September, where visitors can marvel in panoramic
views of land and sea.
Another don’t miss off-site excursion is The
Bermuda Perfumery. This is the place where coveted
Lili Bermuda fragrances are carefully handcrafted, as
they have been since 1928. The Perfumery welcomes
visitors to tour its operations and to sample exclusive
perfumes.
One of the most favored off-site event venues in
St. George’s is Fort St. Catherine & Museum. History
buffs in the group will delight in dioramas that highlight
Bermuda’s early history and other audio-visual exhibits.
The museum archives Fort St. Catherine’s magnificent
history, which began in 1614 when Governor Richard
Moore built the fort to defend Gates Bay, the landing
place of the Sea Venture castaways in 1609. A gun
floor features 10-inch muzzle loaders, each weighing
18 tons, and other displays of antique small arms. The
upper gun deck features a substantial open area that
overlooks Bermuda’s North Shore and the Atlantic
Ocean, perfect for outdoor gatherings.

Golfers can hit the links with views that they’ll
remember for a lifetime as they swing away under
clear blue skies and play some of the most prestigious
beachside courses in the world. There’s no lack of
places to play with seven courses in just 21-square

a robust port. As a tourist destination, it is a
wonderful meetings host because of its many
memorable on-site and off-site venues. Hamilton’s

VENUES
Every year, thousands of visitors explore the three
historic homes of the Bermuda National Trust, each of
which tells a story about Bermuda’s intriguing past. In
the Trust’s care are some 76 properties covering more
than 250 acres and representing the best of Bermuda’s
heritage, including traditional houses, islands, gardens,
cemeteries, nature reserves and coastline. Groups
can take private guided tours that can be arranged
at historic homes, nature reserves, historic sites and
private homes.
Off-site events are spectacular at Verdmont in
Smith’s Parish, which was built in 1710 and is a unique
example of Georgian architecture. The drawing room
and parlour are well suited to a candlelit dinner for up
to 40 people.
Waterville, a historic home also built in the 1700s,
has two greeting rooms in Victorian décor that are
suitable for small receptions and dinner parties.

(BUEI) is one of Bermuda’s most spectacular
attractions, and known as a state-of-the-art venue for
meetings and presentations. The fascinating waterside

its distinctiveness. Its three collections, Bermudian,
African and European are ever expanding and are
the central part of activity for exhibitions, education,
research and events. Off-site cocktail receptions, dinner
presentations, seminars and lectures are easily arranged
by a professional planning staff at the gallery. Groups
from 10 to 300 people can be accommodated.
Located in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, The
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is a great
venue for cocktail, coffee or tea receptions, board
meetings or dinner gatherings. With three exhibits in
the main gallery each year, and a constantly rotating
show of local artists in the other galleries, visitors
can see Bermuda through the eyes of artists such as
Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Demuth,

ATTRACTIONS
The city of Hamilton owns and operates numerous
public parks and spaces within the city limits. The areas
are open to the general public and may be used for
private functions.
Situated on a hilltop on the eastern boundary of
the City, Fort Hamilton boasts panoramic views and
is an ideal venue for gazing at the Island’s spectacular
sunsets. Historically, a former British Garrison, the
Fort was used as the headquarters for The Bermuda
Volunteer Rifle Corps from the mid 1890s until the mid
1930s. Lying at the water’s edge of Hamilton Harbour is
Barr’s Bay Park. The ideal entertainment spot allows for
unrivalled views over the marina of the nearby yacht
club. Barr’s Bay Park is a short walk from the marine
transportation hub of the Hamilton Ferry Terminal, and
sits nestled on the lower western boundary close to the
heart of the city.
Previously Par-la-Ville Park, Queen Elizabeth Park
was renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond
Jubilee in April 2012. Easily recognized as one of
Bermuda’s premier public parks, Queen Elizabeth Park
contains a myriad of floral displays as well as native
and exotic trees. The City of Hamilton partnered with

the Bermuda National Gallery to develop an innovative
display of public art, by creating The John H. Young
and Hilda Young Sculpture Garden inside the park, yet
another spectacular setting for an outdoor reception.
The Botanical Gardens, located a short drive
from downtown Hamilton, is a mix of woodland,
greenhouses, park, agricultural buildings, and
horticultural collections. The gardens unveiled a
tributary sculpture to John Lennon in 2012. While
visiting the Botanical Gardens, Lennon discovered the
Double Fantasy freesia flower which became the title of
his final album. “I know that he loved and was inspired
by Bermuda,” said Yoko Ono. “His spirit is now a part
of the beautiful Gardens where, I hope, peace and love
will grow.”
OCEANSIDE
Reef snorkeling, glass bottom boats to see coral reef
and night cruises on the water are easily found, with
many of the tour boats leaving from Hamilton, near the
ferry terminal.
Not far from the city of Hamilton are two fairly
secluded little beaches, Clarence Cove, that form an
exquisite lagoon-like setting around a part of the North
Shore in Pembroke Parish. Two other cozy beaches
are close by, Spanish Point Park and Deep Bay. All are
perfect for group outdoor activities or just relaxing by
the beautiful blue waters. l

For small groups, the The Dining Room at Gibbs Hill
Lighthouse, inside the glowing tower, puts guests in

taller of two lighthouses on Bermuda, it is the first of

can climb 185 steps to the top in eight flights.

Bermuda’s natural wonders with its picturesque cliffs.
ACTIVITIES
Scaur Hill Fort and Park, one of the many forts built
around the island in the 19th century, sits on the highest
hill in Somerset. The fort has subterranean passages
and a dry moat that stretches across the land from Ely’s
Harbour to Great Sound. Panoramic views of Royal Naval
Dockyard and Great Sound are spectacular.
Take the group for an outdoor adventure — rent
bicycles or walk along the famous Railway Trail.
Operating from 1931 to 1948, the railway served as
transportation for thousands of Bermudians. In 1984,

Reserve spotlights an extremely valuable part of

migratory water birds. Small nesting islands in the
pond have been colonized by five species of breeding
waterfowl, a record for Bermuda marshes and ponds.

The second largest freshwater pond is located at the
Sherwin Nature Reserve, a nine-acre reserve that is

an important sanctuary for resident and migratory
waterfowl. The eastern hillside forms an integral part
of an extensive woodland belt that supports some of
the largest allspice trees in Bermuda and still contains
a number of Bermuda cedars. The Bermuda National
Trust recently installed an interpretive sign nature trail
around the pond.
One of the largest parks in Bermuda is the Heydon
Trust with 44 acres of lush and well-kept gardens. Rose
gardens, citrus groves and a bird sanctuary are all part
of the park as well as ten historical buildings. It is also
home to Bermuda’s smallest chapel, the Heydon Trust
Chapel, built around 1620. The church was donated by
the Church of England and is still an active place of
worship. Hear the lost art of Gregorian chants, which
happen daily. Visitors are welcome.

visually stunning beaches on the island is Jobson’s

THINGS TO KNOW
What’s required to gain entry into the country, how
to get free promotional materials, and other essential
information about Bermuda
VISITOR ENTRY
As of March 1, 2014, Bermuda entry visas and visa
waivers are no longer required for tourist and business
visitors and work permit holders. Requirements for those
landing in Bermuda now include the following:
All travellers who require a multi re-entry visa (MRV)
must present this visa type upon arrival in Bermuda.
The MRV for the UK, US or Canada must be valid for
45 days after the expiration of a visitor stay and/or of
the work permit.
All travellers must possess a passport that is valid
for 45 days past the expiration of travel and/or of
the work permit. (Note: US passport cards are not
permitted for use for travel to Bermuda by air.)
Persons whose MRV and passport validity is less than
45 days will not be landed.

All requests for Customs clearance must begin with
a covering letter addressed to the Bermuda Tourism
Authority which contains the following:

The Bermuda Tourism Authority offers this service
as a courtesy and is not responsible for any items
that are not cleared or deemed prohibited. The
Authority is not in a position to process incomplete
or incorrect paperwork that is received too close to
the arrival date of the materials.
Permitted goods for use in connection with
the holding of a convention or conference may
be imported into Bermuda duty free provided
that those convention goods are re-exported at
the conclusion of the event. The duty relief for
convention goods is provided by law (please refer to
CPC5009 in the Sixth Schedule to the Customs Tariff
for the full text of the relief). The duty relief for
convention goods does not extend to consumable
articles or items that are not guaranteed to leave the
Island, e.g. golf and tennis balls, food, candies and
