As we welcome springtime in the Concho Valley, we enter a
very busy time for our Chamber as we kick off many of our
major events during this time of the year. While this year
has brought unfortunate change, your support, hard work,
and enthusiasm for San Angelo coupled with a stellar staff
and devoted board of directors is what has made this Chamber reap the success we continue to see. Since the first of
2016 we have seen strong attendance at all of our membership events, and our membership numbers are increasing.
Planning has begun for the 11th annual Goodfellow Appreciation Day on May 21st, and we’re
changing it up this year by moving it to the River Stage in our beautiful downtown area. We’ll
be able to take advantage of the river and offer kayaking and access to the walking paths, and
we’re dovetailing our event with a 7K run organized by Good fellow and with the Armed Forces Day activities that will occur at Fort Concho. A sponsor information sheet is included in this
newsletter, and I hope you will help support this event as we show appreciation to our military families.
And of course the 10th annual Craig Partusch Memorial Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat
Races will occur June 24-26, but an enormous amount of work is already underway as our
staff solicits sponsors, sells viewing spaces and RV camping spots, secures food vendors and
volunteers, and works with the City to construct a new boat ramp at Spring Creek. This is a
huge undertaking, and 500-600 volunteers are needed to help make it a success. For more
information or to register to volunteer, visit www.showdowninsanangelo.com.
And finally, planning has already begun for this year’s West Texas Legislative Summit August
3rd & 4th as our elected representatives gather to discuss legislative mandates that may impact education in Texas.
Thank you all for your continued support as we move ahead with our objectives while continuing the search process for our new President/CEO. April 15th is the published deadline for
resumes, and we anticipate that the process will begin soon thereafter to narrow down the
field to the top candidates. We will keep you posted as we move through the search process.
This is a brief overview of the large projects in the works for this spring and early summer. Be
sure to add them to your calendar as well as the following April recurring events:

Chairman of the Board
Meanwhile, your Chamber staff and Board of Directors are
busy planning the large events that will take place over the next few months. We will kick off
our annual Cornerstone Investors Campaign this month with a report of activities at the April
12th luncheon. We’re excited to share the good news of Cornerstone’s tremendous impact on
our community, and whether or not you are a current Cornerstone contributor, please plan to
attend to hear about the program. During the luncheon we’ll also recognize five local businesses who have experienced growth in sales, square footage and/or number of employees.
San Angelo Chamber of Commerce
Action Report (PSPS 352-530) is published
monthly by the San Angelo Chamber of
Commerce, 418 W. Avenue B, 76903.
APRIL 2016

The April 12th luncheon outlined above will take place at the Clarion Hotel from 11:30 am
to 1:00 pm. See page 1 for details.
Business Brown Bag will be held on Tuesday, April 19th from noon to 1:00 pm in the River
View Room at the Visitor Center. This free lunch-hour training will feature SAPD Chief
Tim Vasquez as he discusses “How the Open Carry Law Will Impact Your Business.” Call
655-4136 to reserve your seat.
The next free networking event will take place on Tuesday, April 26th at Texas Pacifico,
106 S. Chadbourne, as we gather for Business @ Happy
Hour from 5-6:30 pm.
I want to express my sincere appreciation to our membership,
staff, and Board of Directors as we continue to focus on making
this community great as we celebrate our Chamber’s 100th anniversary. We are always stronger when we work together for
the common goal.

Bidding Farewell
It’s always difficult to
say goodbye to a coworker, but we must
do so on Friday, April
15th when Sandra
Pomroy, the Chamber’s
Vice President of Operations, retires from
Chamber work.
“I’ve loved working for the Chamber. It has
been challenging and enjoyable, and I’ve acquired great friends along the way, but I’m
looking forward to taking a break in my
working career and spending some leisure
and recreational time with my family.”
Sandra is a graduate of the Institutes for Organization Management program of the United States Chamber and served our Chamber
for 20 years. Good luck Sandra...we’ll miss
you!

“A-B Distributing has been a proud sponsor of the Showdown in San Angelo since
year one of the event at Lake Nasworthy. Being able to bring Lucas Oil and the Speed
Channel on board in 2010 to broadcast this event on national television enabled many
consumers to see a part of San Angelo and the hospitality that this city can bring, not
to mention the additional visibility of our brands through our advertising sponsorship
with this event.”
- Brian Thomma, Branch Manager of A-B Distributing Company
Who watched the 2015 Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat races? Over 12,000
attendees, and over 6 million people who saw the television coverage of the event.
