Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (L113)
THOROUGH EXAMINATION
Employers / Owners must ensure that lifting equipment for lifting persons is thoroughly examined:
•
At least every 6 months (periodic approach)
or
•
In accordance with an “Examination Scheme” or plan
and
•
Following the occurrence of exceptional circumstances that may jeopardise the safety of the equipment •
Following a major repair or modification
•
Following installation at a new site and before being put into service
WAHR
• WAHR retain the same duty with specific reference to LOLER.
• They also extend the general requirement of inspection by a competent person to ALL equipment used for work at height.

CAP CANDIDATES
9 Should have appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and
experience of the lifting equipment to be thoroughly examined.
9 Must be sufficiently independent and impartial to allow
objective decisions to be made.
9 Be able to carry out thorough examinations and inspections.
9 Must decide on the need for inspections between thorough
examinations.
9 May be required to draw up and authenticate an examination
scheme and subsequently modify it in the light of changes.
