Message From The President.
Greetings Penn State Alumni and Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the summer. Your board is making plans for the
Annual Banquet and raffle. The date for this year’s event is Saturday, August 16th. We will
again meet at Dave and Busters on the Southside. We are planning even more raffle items and
some surprises too. Please join us for this family focused event.
I am pleased to report that membership remains strong. We’ve added some new talents to the
Board – Candice & Carrie have joined us. This has resulted in new locations for Dining with the
Lions. Also, we added a few new events this year that we hope to repeat next year. For example,
our picnic in Hanna Park had a great turnout as did our dinner at Ragtime.
For all our efforts, our group was again recognized by the Pennsylvania State University as an
'Alumni Group of Distinction' for 2007! The notification letter we received from the University
reads, in part, "In reaching this level of excellence, your efforts have placed the Greater Jacksonville Chapter in the upper tier of affiliate groups". The Penn State Alumni Association—a powerful network of more than 159,831 members, is the largest dues–paying alumni association in the
country. It is truly an honor to be recognized as a leader within this group. A big "Thank You!"
goes out to all of those who have contributed to making our chapter a success!!!
Please enjoy this newsletter. Check the website often for updates and information –
www.psujax.com. We hope you will join us as often as you can. Dues are due so please be timely
in your payments. Your support allows us to have events like hosting the Signing Lions, the Picnic
at Hanna Park, and the Banquet.
We are all looking forward to another great year. Please make you plans to attend the Banquet and
other events. We are getting good crowds of 40-50 to watch the games and can even have our own
“white out”. There is something special about watching the games with other fans that you cannot
get watching at home.
Thank you for making our Chapter so great!
For the Glory,
Josiah Pritchard
Chapter President

The Penn State Singing Lion 2008 Tour.
The Singing Lions “2008 Annual Spring Tour” brought them to Florida this year.
While on tour, they performed 7 shows during their ten day trip. If you missed their
spirited, inspiring and non-stop performance in Jacksonville this March, then you
missed an opportunity of a lifetime!
Their action packed repertoire included a variety of song, music and choreographed
dance routines, starting with “The Star-Spangled Banner”, and moving on to “Can’t
You Feel It”, “The Nittany Lion/Victory”, “Fight On State”, “Penn State Alma
Mater”, “Big Band Bash Medley”, “Jersey Boys Medley”, “Hairspray Medley”, and
ending with “Sing, Sing, Sing”, many of which the audience found themselves
actively caught up in.

Who are the “Singing Lions”? They have been part of the Penn State Campus for 25
years. Originally founded under the School of Music, the “Singing Lions” is now a
student run organization with a faculty advisor. They serve as “Penn State’s Singing
Ambassadors” and can be seen outside of the student book store every Saturday for
PSU home football games.
For the Glory, Carrie Richter
The “Singing Lion” Mission Statement
“Provide a forum for Singing Lion alumni and friends to enhance their connection with the Singing Lions,
both past and present, and foster a greater sense of community with Penn State. Focus the talents and energy of
alumni to provide support to the current group, and to promote the reputation of the Singing Lions within the
university community as ‘Penn State’s Singing Ambassadors’.”
A special “Thank You” to the students for taking their time to make the trip to Florida to bring a bit of Penn
State to us, and to the local Alumni and friends for showing their support.
Also, our endless appreciation for those that opened their homes and provided housing for the singers.
Dining With The Lions and Hanna Park
The end of football season means good-bye to your
Penn State “Family” for a couple of months, right?
Wrong!
During the offseason, the first Saturday of each month
was dedicated for Dining with the Lions—a chance for
us to keep in touch over a delicious meal.
In February, Ragtime Tavern and Seafood Grille was
chosen for our destination. Thirty-eight people came
out to the beach to enjoy great seafood and great company.
For June, it was decided to ditch the formal dining and
head to the park—Hanna Park that is. Over 40 alumni
and family gathered for a cookout and to spend a day at
the beach with their Penn State “Family”.
For those of you who came to any of the dinners, I
would like to thank you for helping make this a success.
I really enjoyed planning the nights and seeing everyone. For those that weren’t able to make the dinners, I
hope you can join us next year for more fantastic dinners.
See you in August!
For March, a brand new restaurant was added to the list,
Mongo’s Flat Hot Grill. It was a surprisingly impressive meal that 28 people were able to experience.
WE ARE…PENN STATE!!
Candice Hornung
April was unfortunately cancelled due to lack of availability. But, May was back in full swing with an exquisite dinner at World Grill. The Top Chef came out and
personally thanked his 22 guests.
