Dear Parents
Please allow me a personal story this
week. Because of the Holocaust, I grew up
without the experience of grandparents. In
turn, I tried very hard to create experiences
for our four kids to be close to their
grandparents, including at all those special
events in school. Now, ironically, we live far
away from our own grandchildren. Noni, our
2nd grader, loves her studies at her Jewish
day school and we attended her Haggigat haSiddur last year. We love her letters filled with
her early attempts at Hebrew, apparently
her favorite subject. But truth be told, her
school does very little to let us know what is
going on; were it not for Noni or our son, we
would hear little or nothing about her school
experience or her school.
What a lost opportunity for them and for
us. Perhaps that is why I personally loved
meeting and greeting so many grandparents
here at Lehrman last week—did I live
vicariously through them? Of course! I often
feel like Lehrman kids are my grandkids in
absentia, but I also understood the pride
and pleasure taken by those who attended
the festivities. And we are planning plenty of
follow-up, with your help, of course. We asked
for up-to-date mailing addresses and e-mails
all day, perhaps to the point of nudging. But
how else will we be able to send out invites
to our art show opening in January, a special
newsletter with photos from grandparents
day, or the results of our semi-final and
championship football games and other
news from Lehrman, as well as examples of
student works and alumni news?
Mi-dor l’Dor rusk rusn From Generation
to Generation has its real expression in the
actions of our children and the merits of
our grandchildren. It is wonderful to see the
tree grow from its sturdy roots to its long
branches, and its beautiful fruits. Help us
reach out to your parents by keeping our lists
current so we can keep the news flowing.
Take my word for it—this is another aspect of
the Lehrman Difference.

vcr vsu, Thank You to the Lieber Family
for donating our beautiful Lehrman kipot
which you will find when you join us for
t’fillah. They will allow you to join our
boys in wearing a kipah during morning
and Shabbat t’fillah. Should you choose
to take the kipah and proudly display the
Lehrman name and logo in the community,
we ask that you make a small contribution
(tzedakah box provided) so that we may
replenish our supply for the future.
NEWS:
Kosher Food Bank (KFB) Drive will now be
collecting items requested for December:
• Kids’ Cereals • Shabbat Candles • Canned Foods
All donations can be placed in the KFB Bin in

Intergenerational Opportunities
in Early Childhood Settings
With the number of children in care
settings increasing every year and fewer
resources available, intergenerational
programs in early childhood programs
have become a growing trend.
Intergenerational programs can pool
limited resources for the benefit of
children, the community, and older adults.

There are so many special people at Lehrman…
when you watch the football teams from the sidelines at
each Lehrman Lions game, immediately you feel lucky to
have Coach Aaron on your team. Throughout a game,
Coach makes sure that all team members are part of the
play, feel good about themselves and that they make a
difference. No one is berated for making a mistake on the
field or for losing. In fact, it is completely to the contrary.
Coach uses each experience as a positive teaching lesson and
an opportunity to do better the next time. Now THAT’s winning!
(An unsolicited endorsement by a proud Lehrman parent!)
