MESSAGE FROM
THE CHAIRPERSON
s chair of the Arts Commission for the last
three years I have had the opportunity
to work with many amazing people. I
respect each and every commissioner and want
them to know how much their service has been
appreciated. To be on the commission, a resident
of Federal Way must submit an application and
be interviewed by city council members. Once
selected to serve, they attend several meetings
and events each month. And we are all volunteers!
A
A big thank you to our dedicated city staff: Leah
Fraine, John Hutton and Debbie Lusebrink. I also
want to thank the city council for their continued

support. This past spring and summer have been a
Chairperson
lot of fun, with our receptions for the winners of
the student art show and the Dumas Bay sculpture naming contest,
as well as the July 4th Arts Tent.
Now we move into our busiest time of year: the fall. In addition
to reviewing the application requests for Contracts for Services,
there will be the Juried Art Show and the selection of Gallery
Exhibitioners for 2012.
The Juried Art Show - Artists can submit their work September
28th between 4:00-6:00 pm. The top three winners will receive cash
prizes. The "Juror's Choice" winner will have a solo exhibit at City Hall.
Gallery Exhibitors for 2012 - receive a $200 honorarium and have your
work displayed in either our City Hall or Dumas Bay Centre galleries.
Art Funding - Contract for Services applications are due on October
7th for our 501c3 artists that request grant funding from the Arts
Commission. Applications will be available early September.
