“The program will include but not be limited to oceanographic and meteorological assessments and testing
prototype ocean, wave, and tidal energy devices. The fundamental objective is to test and assess the efficacy of
methods to extract energy from Outer Banks waves and currents to create opportunities for economic
development and to serve the energy needs for North Carolina.
The new pier provides a unique opportunity, perhaps the only of it's kind, in which a public fishing pier will have
on-going active university research programs.”
