WELCOME TO THE LITTLE HOOT
A very big thank you to everyone who has participated in creating The Little Hoot – an
extraordinary showcase of creativity. Your enthusiasm and commitment to be at the core of this
unique cultural happening has already propelled it into being Britain’s biggest schools public art
event in 2015.
From nursery, primary, secondary and special schools together with a college and four
community groups, over 25,000 young people, teachers and communities across the city have
spent many months experiencing and enjoying the magic of the visual arts.
The inner-artist has been unleashed leading to creative conversations in hundreds
of classrooms resulting in a citywide exhibition of very special, imaginative and
inspiring designs, all of which visually tell stories about schools and the wider
community. This in turn inspires, entertains and informs all visitors to the many
wonderful host venues over the summer months.
We hope you have lots of fun discovering and enjoying each of the owlets.
Well done, Little Hooters – you have done the city proud.
Sally-Ann Wilkinson, Director, Wild in Art
WILD IN ART
The Little Hoot is produced by Wild in Art – the UK’s leading public art and education company.
We bring the creativity and enjoyment of art to thousands of people through our high profile
events and education related projects.

A MESSAGE FROM
BIRMINGHAM CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
The Little Hoot has given children and young people the opportunity to get excited about arts
and crafts as well as engage them in important topics from democracy and parliament, to health
and wellbeing.
It is the health and wellbeing opportunity that has particularly excited us at the hospital, as we are
totally committed to helping improve children and young people’s life chances.
The fact that they could combine fun and creativity with health improvement was
an opportunity we were just ‘too wise’ to miss!”
Sarah-Jane Marsh
Chief Executive, Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Visit www.bch.org.uk to download your trail sponsorship form and get involved with a range of
Big Hoot fundraising activities this summer, all in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOLS
OF KING EDWARD VI
The Schools of King Edward VI have enjoyed a long association with
Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Through The Little Hoot, we wanted to raise awareness of our ‘Opening Doors’
campaign, a strategy which is widening access into our five free grammar
schools for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are delighted that following last years ‘familiarisation’ sessions at our five
free grammar schools 133 children were offered opportunities which were
not previously open to them. More children from more schools across
Birmingham have attended this year’s sessions and we are hopeful that
these young people will now have the confidence to apply to take the
entrance tests for King Edward’s selective schools.
Denis Ramplin, Director of Marketing & Communications at The Schools of
King Edward VI said, “The Big Hoot has been an inspiration to so many children.
It has helped them to develop many art skills plus an appreciation of creativity.
Having seen many of the owlets that have been produced I know that the children
at primary and secondary schools in Birmingham have produced exhibits which we
can all enjoy as they are sited across the city.”
