FEEL THE PULSE
MARCH 10 – MARCH 23, 2015
LAGUNA SPOTLIGHT:
MUSIC FEsTIVAL
The Blue Water Music Festival (BWMF), one of
Laguna’s premier music and arts festivals returns
to the Sawdust Art Festival grounds March 28th
and 29th, 2015. The festival will feature 30 bands
and musicians on three stages over a two day
period, celebrating multiple genres of music,
incredible artistry and most importantly, our
fantastic community.
The festival is Laguna’s mini Woodstock where
all ages can take part and enjoy the festivities.
This year’s diverse line-up of bands includes:
Smash Mouth, Allen Stone and Brett Dennen as
headliners along with The White Buffalo, a.k.a.
singer/songwriter Jake Smith, whose country/rock
influences create a timeless sound; 2015 American
Reggae Hall of Fame inductee, Jack Miller,
performing with the World Anthem Band; soul/
reggae legend Pato Banton, Common Sense,
Missiles of October, Trevor Green, Adam Lasher,
The Salty Suites, Aloha Radio, Pawnshop kings,
Wheeland Brothers, James Clay Garrison, Ken
Garcia, The Snacks and so many more.
Chefs of Laguna will wow your tastebuds as they
demonstrate their culinary skills with delicious,
sustainable recipes plus two exhibit areas will
demonstrate ceramics and glass blowing.
For Rick Conkey, founder of Blue Water Music
Festival, music and art have always been able to
affect change and this festival is a grassroots way
to demonstrate how it can benefit a community.
Proceeds from the festival go towards Blue Water
Green Earth, a community based fundraising
approach which sheds light on countless charitable,
social and environmental causes. These have
included numerous beach cleanups and fundraisers
for local organizations and community members
either in distress, or simply needing a helping hand.
Every year the Blue Water Music Festival reaches
new heights and this year promises amazing
bands and wonderful musicians for people around
Southern California to discover and enjoy.
Ticket prices range from $55 for general
admission day passes to $400 VIP patron passes
for both days. For tickets and festival updates, go

The Laguna Greeter
When we pass Michael Minutoli, the Laguna Greeter, he’ll
undoubtedly give you one of his enthusiastic waves which
leaves you wondering what it is about this guy which
elicits such a strong reaction, either good or bad. First
time documentary filmmaker, Marty Yewchuck, asked
himself this very question and ultimately resulted in making
the film “The Greeter.” His production company, Elestial
Productions was interested in telling stories to highlight
human and spiritual connections and “The Greeter” was a worthy story. The
more people he interviewed the more the film came to life revealing not only an
inherent love for Laguna and appreciation for its Greeter, but larger themes of
humanity, peace and understanding.
Laguna’s Greeter dates back 125 years (1890) which was coincidentally the
birth year of Eiler Larson, Laguna’s 2nd Greeter who persevered as The Greeter
notwithstanding criticism. After 20 years he was awarded the official title by the City
in 1964 and despite being homeless, Eiler was only interested in spreading joy.
Laguna’s current Greeter, Michael Minutoli, is also homeless and has become
a local celebrity of sorts. He’s thrilled to be involved in the community and
believes that the number of loving, positive and accepting people far outweighs
the negative. His focus has always been on raising people’s spirits which is why
his hand waves are often misunderstood as the ravings of a mad man when in
fact each wave represents a symbol. He has certain signs for different cars and
puts his heart and soul into every gesture.
The Greeter Documentary will host its Kickstarter campaign party March 13th
at Hotel Laguna which will feature the Greeter’s Ale courtesy of Laguna Beach
Beer Company.
To bring awareness to the film, a birthday party commemorating Eiler Larsen’s
125th birthday will take place at Main Beach on March 27th at Noon.
Laguna Sound Studio
Laguna Sound Studio aspires to highlight and
develop the massive talent of Orange County
and beyond through an array of services
utilizing cutting edge digital software and a
team of producers, engineers and mastering
specialists, CD replicators, videographers and
even legal advisers all dedicated to raising your music to whole new octave!
Their acoustically designed studio creates a comfortable, inspiring enviroment
from which to draw creative juices. Once an album or demo is completed,
Founder Dustin Yrizzary and Studio Manager, MaQui Sainz, will showcase
live performances and radio interviews through their partners at KX 93.5.
As a member of the First Thursdays Art Walk, LSS utilizes these monthly
events as a great way to showcase new talent and for schmoozing with
musically minded people.
Located in the heart of downtown and open 24/7, contact studio manager
MaQui at (949) 415-9680 to book rehearsal or recording time.
Warm Community Vibes
It was standing room only at the Eric Henderson concert thanks to a community
of supporters who rallied to promote and sell every ticket for this guitar great’s
rare appearance. Henderson gave a touching tribute to dear friend Richard
Begley, whose life was tragically taken and was loved by so many in Laguna.
GG’s Bistro, located in the heart of the Village, invited all to join them in
celebrating 10 years in business with Turkish nibbles, drinks and live jazz.
Laguna’s gay community rejoiced in the grand re-opening of Main Street Bar
and Cabaret. Owner, Wendy Nelson, and Manager, Craig Cooley, hosted a party
for staff and loyal customers, giving thanks to those who helped to remodel,
then rolled out the welcome mat for party people all weekend long!
