[email protected] Dear District 4 Kinettes,
Welcome to the Kinette Fall LEADERSHIP Conference!
In the definition of transformational leadership, a leader is a person who:
• Creates an inspiring vision of the future.
•
Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision.
•
Manages delivery of the vision.
•
Coaches and builds a team, so that it is more effective at achieving the vision.
Leadership brings together the skills needed to do these things, whether it is in chairing a project, developing
relationships in the community, chairing meetings, holding office- the list is extensive. When club members become
more knowledgeable in Kin, feel capable to take on new projects or want to share new ideas, and are inspired by the
experiences and the amazing things Kin members do, it leads to great things. A Connected- Capable -Contributing
membership that knows and feels their value to the association is more than the time they give.
With this in mind, this weekend is about YOU! It is both a celebration and a call to action to connect us and bring about
the strongest , most inspired year imaginable. Not only for your club but for you, for your community, and all of the
lives impacted by the work you do. It is my hope that this weekend gives you opportunities to learn new things or
strengthen existing skills and share your passion and experience with others. The National Board will also be taking
some time in the day to talk to the membership as well, because it is your feedback and ideas that will move our
association forward and let us build on the strengths we have. I hope that you have been able to add the YAPP app to
your phone- through the meeting if something is not making sense or you would like someone to be aware of an idea to
help others, you can send that in and we will make sure that the questions are addressed to the best of our ability. You
can also upload photos and stay on track to where things are happening.
I cannot fully express how incredibly honoured I am to be able to serve, support, and celebrate the work you do in your
communities. I am looking forward to coming to your events and sharing in your passion for making a difference.
(Please email me the details of your events and I will do my best to organize my calendar. ) Over the summer the
opportunities to both participate in events, attend the National conference and also experience the work and fellowship
through the many posts of social media leaves me both very proud and in awe of all you do to help others.
We are very excited to help build on the leadership skills in the District through this training; thank you so much in your
participation and attendance.
Stay beautiful, be inspired.
Yours in Kin,
Corie Brand
Kinette Governor

KIN SONG
KINMEN GRACE
Here we are together once again
One and all a happy bunch of Kin,
Leave your cares and troubles for awhile,
Let your face break forth in smile.
Turn around, grab someone by the hand,
They're your friends, the finest in the land,
Now all set, let's shout to beat the band,
Kinsmen, Kinettes and Kin!
Happy to meet, Sorry to part
Happy to meet again
For what we are about to receive
O Lord make us truly thankful. Amen.
KINSMEN SONG
Here we are together once again
One and all a happy bunch of men,
Leave your cares and troubles for awhile,
Let your face break forth in smile.
Look around, grab someone by the hand,
They're your friends, the finest in the land,
Now all set, let's shout to beat the band,
Kinsmen, Kinsmen, Kinsmen!
KINETTE GRACE
May the Lord make us true Kinettes
In our thoughts and deeds.
Make us truly grateful
For the food we receive. Amen.
KIN GRACE
Happy to meet. Sorry to part.
Happy to Meet again
May the Lord make us true Kin
In our thoughts and deeds
And make us truly grateful
For the food we receive. Amen
KINETTE SONG
KINETTE PRAYER
Here we are together once again
Happy in the family of Kin,
We've forgotten cares and worries too
Kinettes we've work to do.
Each of us will help to bind the tie,
So the heart of Kin will never die,
One and all let's raise our voices high,
Kinettes, Kinettes, Kinettes!
Almighty God who has called us to be
citizens of this fair dominion, enable us
and all our fellow citizens at this time, to
walk worth of your high calling.
Unite us all in one holy purpose of right
and truth, save us from all distrust and
bitterness, that seeking what is just and
equal caring for the needs of others, we
may live and work together so as to
fulfill thy gracious purpose in this land
through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen
Welcome Fellow Kin! It's FLC time!
And we all know what that means... the start of a new Kin year. A time to reconnect with
friends, the opportunity to learn some new things, and get a fresh perspective on our
upcoming Kin year. I find it's a great time to reflect on our successes from the previous year
and get re-energized for the year ahead. And the best part of it is that we get to do that
amongst our friends. Better yet, we get the chance to bring our excitement back into our
Clubs and communities and start making a difference right way. From the educational
sessions that your Governors have planned and your own discussions with your
fellow Kinsmen and Kinettes, I'm sure that you're going to have some great tools and great
ideas to bring back home to share.
Now that Kin Canada has our (and your!) Strategic Plan in place, and our new Executive
Director, Grant Ferron, is in place directing Headquarters staff accordingly, Kin Canada is
poised to be able to provide you with the Tools and the direction to succeed in your Club.
And to be able to do some pretty amazing things in your Community. As you can see, our
Strategic Plan is focused on developing strong Clubs, strong Leaders, and a strong
Association for you to support healthy, engaged and enriched Communities. Things really do
start with you in your Club learning and developing skills, whether you know it or not. :)
And here you are! Fall Leadership Conference is definitely the right place for you this
weekend!
I am so glad that you've made the choice to be here to share in the knowledge that resides
within your fellow Kin. Have fun as you learn new things! And remember to share with your
own Kin Family back home.
Thank you for being a part of our future!

FROM THE DESK OF GRANT FERRON…
October 2015
Greetings and Welcome,
On behalf of the staff at Headquarters and myself, we are very pleased to see that you
are participating in your District’s Fall Leadership Conference. Good things happen any
time you bring people together in both fellowship and learning.
Throughout the weekend you are going to have an opportunity to connect with more
members of the Kin Family and hear about the wonderful and meaningful activities that
go on in their own Clubs. You are also going to meet some generous people who will
take the time to share some of their skills and expertise. And of course, you will get a
chance to make new friends and share a laugh or two.
Many of you are aware that this gig is a fairly new one for me and my task from day one
was to bring Kin Canada’s National Strategic Directions to life. With just a few minor
tweaks, the journey towards 2020 is already underway. You will hear more and more
about the National Leadership Hub that essentially ensures more people are involved in
shaping the operational activities of Kin Canada, while putting more emphasis on
service and support to our 450+ Clubs. More people will be shown our appreciation and
excellence will be acknowledged and celebrated throughout. Our people will have more
opportunities to develop both personal and professional skills in such a way that Kin
Canada will be the “go-to” organization in both need and contribution. We will be an
“Association of Distinction” by what we do and how well we do it.
Of course this all starts with you and the journey is open to anyone who commits to the
Kin Canada Mission, embraces the Vision and shares our Values.
The weekend is truly what you make of it. At the very least I hope you have fun and at
the very best I hope you finish with a greater appreciation for the impact that you, your
Club and your fellow Kin have on the lives of so many Canadians. It is truly aweinspiring!
All the best…

DISTRICT SERVICE RAFFLE
Fellow Kin it is that Time of Year again! Welcome to FLC! I think this is the time in the bulletin that I should be providing you with member numbers and statistics of how many members we “get” and how many members we lost and what we netted throughout last year and set goals for this year….and that’s when you would probably not really even look at this report and keep turning till you see the next silly or sexy photos in the bulletin. If you are one of those “Analyticals” and like those numbers feel free to contact me and please turn to the Treasurer’s report. For the majority of the Kin that I have met and spoke with throughout D4, those numbers do not mean a thing to you. My emphasis this year is; what is happening in your home club? The focus is on you and your club right now because positive membership numbers across the association have zero impact on your club if you are struggling to keep members and are having a hard time attracting new members. I am hoping the clubs that are experiencing the crunch of member burnouts, aging membership, and a decline in membership annually to reach out to me. If this describes your club, please reach out to me. A few things to consider on the topic of membership: • Does your club have a website and/or a Facebook page that is regularly updated? • When you have a service/fundraiser, do you advertise during the event as 100% volunteer based, we are looking for new members to join our club, and include contact information (email AND phone)? • Are you involving local media when you host your service/fundraising projects and quantifying the positive impacts to your community? • Do your meetings have meaning, kept mostly positive, and respectful of everyone’s time? I am also looking to test out a pilot program this year called the 6th Man Committee*. It is a committee that consists of Kin throughout D4 that is ready and able to assist with your projects should you not have the proper manpower to take on a new task or an existing task. The committee is focused on the smaller the clubs with 10 or less members. Please reach out to me for details. Have fun at FLC and enjoy the Fellowship whether you are getting physical in Brooks or if you are going for the podium in Calgary. Risk Managament
Trena Marthaler What is Risk Management? Is your club managing its risks? Risks can come from
various sources: e.g., uncertainty in financial impacts, threats from project
failures, legal liabilities, credit risk, accidents, injury and natural causes or
disasters. As the District 4 Risk manager I can provide support/ advise to the
clubs in the District in how to manage risks, informational support and how to
connect with if things go wrong.
Risk management is a proactive, continuous process that identifies,
measures and manages those risks. It enables decision making as to whether a
risk is acceptable or requires further action. Process leads to effective decision
making, allowing projects and programs to achieve better results. It assists in
clearly defined insurance needs and enables contingency plans to deal with the
consequences.
Did you know that the diligence in our reporting / updating the insurance forms
has helped in reducing our overhead costs of insurance to the association? Please
remember that You must report each event to Melanie at National to ensure you
are covered- even if your club has its own additional insurance, as part of a
National organization, your clubs ongoing communication with National will
help in the proper coverage. Are your members covered after you update the
reporting form? No- for additional coverage for your members, there is a
separate fee for additional member coverage that clubs can opt into or do not
have to.
Running special events and projects present a variety of potential risk
management issues. The Kin Canada website resource library has a lot of
valuable information to help to help run your projects and club operations safely.
If you have any questions you can contact Mélanie Nieson at
[email protected] or call 800-742-5546 ext. 208. and she can also provide
help and support in this area.
The National site has information about insurance coverage and how to handle
risk management needs in your club. These resources will help you handle your
risk management needs with a step by step guide, corporate status booklets, an
outline of club Risk Manager position and a summary of the National Insurance
Coverage.
Remember to stay safe and update the clubs insurance report and
incorporation status by Nov 15. Vision: Campus Clubs Kin Canada requires the sponsor club to have a mentor for the first year of forming a campus club. My plan would be to make it a requirement of our district to extend that mentorship beyond one year. It will not be the sole responsibility of the sponsor club to take on this mentorship, but the collective of all clubs within the area of the campus club. For example the Calgary campus club would end up having a total of four mentors as there are four clubs within the city of Calgary. Reason for this plan would be that each club brings a different way of how a club operates, giving the campus club a wide range of choices. The campus club mentors can be appointed by the Campus Club Liaison, who in turn would be appointed by the district board. The mentors would work alongside the liaison updating the progress of the campus club. As for any new campus clubs for this year I have not received any confirmation of one being sponsored. However I have heard talk of a possible campus club at the University of Lethbridge, and interest being shown at Mount Royal University. I look forward to the challenges and the ever changing world of the Kin Campus program. If you have any ideas or recommendations that you feel could help, or you would like to be a Campus Club mentor let me know. Glenn. U of A Here are all the projects of the year. Jenn here; your Kinette O Zone DG. For those of you who don’t know me yet I am
known by my Party Rockin team as the girl with the killer Spice Girl dance moves and my
excitement towards being deputy governor this year and to get to know the wonderful people that
make up our zone and District 4. I started my journey as DG in April at DLS where I learned a ton
about my role and even more about Kin Canada. Along with my partner in crime, Rob Maccannell,
we decided that we would like to travel together and attend both Kinsmen and Kinette meetings to
get a better view of what each club has to offer to our wonderful association. In June, we did 4
executive installations that included that High River Kinsmen & Kinettes, the Okotoks Kinsmen and
the Vulcan Kinettes. Then in early September we hosted the annual Joint Installation in Calgary
which brought out the 4 Calgary clubs and the U of C Campus club! We also visited the Hanna
Kinettes and have plans for more visits to the Calgary Kinettes & Stampede City Kinettes in
October. I absolutely love my role as DG so far and I can’t wait to see what this year brings! Here
are what the Kinettes Clubs in the O Zone have been up too so far this year!
Kinette Club of Stampede City
FLC 2015 Report
Our Club’s membership is currently at 19
members with at least 2 more ladies who are
eager to join us.
Over the summer we volunteered for the
Annual Kin Wheels project at the Stampede
Grounds with the Calgary Kinsmen. We had
our Casino at the end of August and have
now begun the new Kin year with
enthusiasm and excitement for what we have
ahead.
Our most current project is the sale of our
cookbooks which were made from recipes
submitted by our members and are for sale for $20.
Upcoming projects include our Adopt-a-Family, helping the Calgary & Southern AB CF Chapter
with their annual “Wrapping for a Cure” event, participating in Santa’s Secret Service (for Seniors),
volunteering at our local food bank and sponsoring / volunteering for the Cinderella Project – just to
name a few.
We are very proud that 3 members of our club are part of the Party Rockin’ Team, 1 member is the
National Kin Foundation Chair and of course we are thrilled and honoured to be the home club of
NVP candidate Terri MacCannell!

President
Kinette Club of High River The High River Kinettes got together a few times over the summer for work and play. Most of us
worked Kin Wheels shifts at the Calgary Stampede as we do every year, and we also had our twoday casino in August.
High River was a stop for Wild Pink Yonder, a trail ride across Alberta in support of breast
cancer. The Kinsmen BBQ'd for the riders and the Kinettes enjoyed fellowship (aka wine) while
assembling bagged lunches for them to enjoy on their ride the following day.
We enjoyed our annual group campout at Carseland in August, along with a few Kinsmen &
Kinettes from Calgary. We had gorgeous weather, and while some of the guys went golfing, the
rest of us headed down to the river for basking in the
sun, water fights and drifting down the river on deadfall (redneck tubing) by one resourceful Kinsmen.
We are thrilled to have two members heading to Kin
Kollege and expect them to come back to us full of
great ideas and enthusiasm, which will be a great
start to a busy year. We are running a Grey Cup
raffle; purchasing and decorating a Christmas tree for
the Okotoks Tree Festival; doing a work project for a
Habitat for Humanity build in High River; hosting the
5th Annual LNO - Divas & Diamonds on April
16 (Mark Your Calendars) and moving it to a larger venue; and making plans for the 10th
Anniversary of our club in May. We have lots of club fellowship activities planned as well including
bubble soccer and a progressive restaurant night.
We had four guests out to our September meeting, and hope to see plenty more over the next
months. The High River Kinettes are looking forward to an action-packed, successful 2015-16.

We haven't been up to much yet this year but we
have made a Donation of Teddy Bears to the
hospital and made a donation to the Sunshine
Club(local Seniors) to help with a gazebo that
they had built.
We are looking into a few different fundraising
ideas and hope to do a few new things this year!

Our club hasn't been up to much so far but I sat at our fall fair being security wearing my kin
uniform recently! We have our annual Ladies Night Out in March, proceeds going to a local
organization. And our Christmas Craft fair on Nov 22, which is always sold out for vendors. Over
the summer we didn't have much going except keeping our trees watered in our walking path loop.
We are also looking forward to taking part in the
upcoming National day of KINDNESS and hope
to take part in the blood drive.
So that is pretty much us in a bv nutshell.

Kinette Club of Calgary
The Kinette Club of Calgary now has 41
members and continues to expand! I had a
chance to install their executive at the Annual
Joint Installation at Heritage Park in early
September and I was really impressed with
how many members they had attend! It was
great to see all of them and see a bunch of
new faces! They will be cooking for Made by
Momma as a service project and are
volunteering for the Alziemers walk and run.
They have started the planning for Adopt a Family, and in the New Year they will have The
Cinderella Project and were also hosting Spring Zone along with the Calgary Kinsmen. We are also
planning a pub night fundraiser/fellowship for early in The New Year. That is just a few things that
we have on our agenda, I'm sure other things will come up after we have major speakers night in
January.

Kin Club of Bassano
The Bassano Kinsmen club turned a new leaf this year when they officially became a Kin Club and
now have 3 Kinettes in their club! Rob and I traveled out there in mid-September and were excited
to see that they have joined together so well! They are actively looking for new members and have
some fantastic ideas for upcoming projects! They are excited about their newly combined club and
I look forward to seeing what this year brings for them and to see them at FLC and District
Convention.
I look forward to seeing everyone at FLC!
