Safety Requirements
It is a requirement for all riders to be wearing a
protective helmet securely on their head. Further
safety precautions include goggles, body armour,
protective clothing, boots and gloves.
In addition to protective clothing, you should
always let someone know where you are going and
when you expect to return, in case of an accident.
Motorcycling with a buddy is also recommended.
Penalties
Off Road vehicles can only be used on permitted
areas or on private land with the consent of the
landowner. Fines apply for vehicles being used in
non-permitted areas:
Section 6 (1)
Drive / Ride an off road vehicle in a
non-permitted area.
Penalty $50, maximum $500
Section 7
Any motor vehicle (other than road registered)
must be off road registered.
Penalty $50, maximum $200
Section 9C
Failure to wear protective helmets.
Penalty $50, maximum $800

Vehicle Use
Off road vehicle use is only permitted on private
property with consent of the landowner or in a
permitted area, as listed in this flyer.
If you see someone in a non permitted area please
contact the appropriate authority with as much
information as possible.

Off Road Vehicle
Permitted Areas
If you plan on driving or riding an Off Road Vehicle
within the City of Wanneroo it’s important you know
the areas that you are permitted to go.
Off Road vehicles can only be used on permitted
areas or on private land with the consent of the
landowner (Please note: noise restrictions may apply,
speak with a Health Officer to gain more information
9405 5000). Fines apply for vehicles being used in
non-permitted areas.
No vehicles (registered or unregistered) are
allowed on environmentally sensitive areas
such as beaches, foreshores or dunes.

The Control of Vehicles (Off-Road Areas) Act 1978
and Parking Facilities Local Law 2003 regulate and
control the activities of off road vehicles. Under
the Act, an off road vehicle is defined as one not
registered for on-road use.

The off road vehicle requires to be licensed if there
is a legitimate need to access one or more public
roads (even if it is only for the purpose of crossing).
Off road vehicle registered and off road plates
issued. In order to access the designated off road
vehicle areas, motorcycles, quads and other off
road vehicles are required to have Off Road Vehicle
registration.
Registered off road vehicles are not permitted on
public roads.
Possum
All off road vehicle registrations expire on
September 30 each year and must be renewed or
the registration plates surrendered. Registration
does not include Third Party Insurance.

Off road vehicles can be registered at any licensing
centre. The current registration fee is $6 per year
and a similar charge applies for the registration
plates, which only need to be purchased the first
time the vehicle is registered.
