ESIDENT & CHAIRMAN
W e a r e p l e a s e d t o s h a r e w i t h y o u , on behalf of Concordia University Portland’s
community of students, faculty, staff, and neighbors, that we continue to be blessed in so many ways. While we seek to
transform the lives of our students, we too have been transformed by the overwhelming support, partnership, and prayers
from our broader Concordia family including donors, alumni, community partners, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod,
Northwest District, and Lutheran congregations throughout the Northwest.
On behalf of the Concordia University Portland community, it is our pleasure to share our recent progress:
» By God’s grace, as a campus community, we affirmed our vision for the future of Concordia and our strategic direction to
prepare leaders for the transformation of society in the form of our 2020 Vision.
» Concordia’s growth in all respects – from students and facilities to community partnerships – was tremendous these past
three years, and continues.
» We purchased, renovated and completed a new building in downtown Boise, Idaho that opens to students this fall 2012 as
Concordia University School of Law.
» We opened the new Concordia University Hilken Community Stadium for baseball and soccer. Its opening brings new energy
and expansion to our teams and to local community groups, who enjoy 50% of available practice hours on the new field.
» In athletics, Concordia continues to place nationally in the NAIA: the women’s track and field team won the 2011 NAIA
national championship; and the women’s soccer team competed in the title game of the 2011 NAIA national championship.
» The student body has more than doubled over the past decade to more than 3,500 students – approximately half
undergraduate students and half graduate students, more than 750 of whom are pursuing a Concordia master of education
(M.Ed.) program online.
» Concordia’s commitment to campus spiritual life led to calling the Rev. Greg Fairow to serve as our campus pastor. Pastor
Fairow accepted the call and arrived on campus in January 2011.
» Our partnership with Lutheran congregations throughout the Northwest is over a century long and continues to grow and
deepen, as evidenced by a 60% increase in congregational giving to Concordia over the past two years.
» A generous gift by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust allowed us to call the first executive director of the Art & Carol
Wahlers Center for Applied Lutheran Leadership (CALL), the Rev. Dr. Paul W. Mueller.
» God’s grace also compelled Concordia to serve the community, resulting in recognition on the U.S. President’s 2011
Community Service Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, and by Washington Monthly magazine as #1 (2010) and #7
(2011) in the nation.
» Concordia raised more scholarship dollars than ever before for students, thanks to the generosity of our donors.
We are incredibly grateful for the manifold blessings of God’s grace and for the overwhelming support of our University
friends, alumni, donors, church partners, and community. Thank you for your support of Concordia and its students, for your
partnership in ministry, and for being such a valued part of our Concordia family!

Concordia University is governed by a Board of Regents, elected by the
conventions of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, the Northwest
District, and the current board. The board meets throughout the year
to strategize, plan, and set forth policies that are in turn carried out by
the President, who is an advisory member to the Board. We appreciate
the commitment that our Board of Regents has made to Concordia.
Their wisdom and guidance is invaluable as we look to the future and
plan for the growth of the institution and our students.

The Board of Directors of the Concordia University Foundation is
comprised of dedicated individuals with an affinity and passion to
serve the mission of Concordia University. The board oversees the
overall business affairs of the Foundation and meets at various times
throughout the year to inform, discuss, and strategize the goals and

President’s Leadership Circle
The President’s Leadership Circle is a diverse group of men and women who share a confidence in a brighter future and
the belief that Concordia University can help shape that future. Membership is open to anyone who contributes $1,000
or more annually to any scholarship, program, department, or facility during the fiscal year ( July 1 – June 30).
Hundreds of dedicated alumni, parents, and friends give their support to provide opportunities that enable our students
to achieve their full potential, to recruit and retain faculty who are at the top of their academic field, and to ensure that
our proud heritage and tradition of academic excellence will continue well into the next century. Through your vision and
support, bright and deserving students have the opportunity to benefit from a Concordia University education. Thank
