CISSC Annual Report 2014-15 - Communities In Schools of
2014 - 2015
Annual Report
We’re
Changing
the Picture
We push for every
child in Spokane
County to graduate
from high school and
be prepared for
future education,
work, and life.
We work with our
partners to address
the root causes of
academic failure by
redirecting existing
resources from the
community into
schools.
1 in 5 Students in Spokane County
Fails to Graduate on Time
93% of students
felt their mentor
made a difference
in their lives.
We mentored 323
at-risk students
using community
volunteers through
our PrimeTime
Mentoring Program.
In partnership with public schools facing the greatest
dropout challenges, Communities In Schools brings
resources and volunteers into the school to help struggling
students get back on track. In collaboration with partners,
we are able to provide 6,342 students with basic needs, and
case management to 428 students.
COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS SITE COORDINATORS
• Identify children in a school who are the most at risk of
academic failure in partnership with school staff
• Set an academic goal with the child that the child
agrees to work on with the Site Coordinator
• Develop a plan to prevent the child from failing by
identifying what the child needs
THE SITE COORDINATOR THEN…
• Brokers services for the child from within the school and
outside service agencies
• Regularly checks and documents the child’s progress
• Advocates for the child and family in navigating
Personal, Social, and Health Services
• Supports the child to reach goals through a meaningful
and constant relationship within the school
