1. Events which occur in the days around an eclipse are memorable. The ‘time orb’ is plus or minus 10 days. Events taking place in the 7‐10 days before an eclipse work out in an unexpected fashion. Affairs take turns that are not anticipated. (Jayne) 2. Solar eclipses can have an effect up to 3 to 6 months before they occur and as long as 1 year afterward. Their lunar brethren have an effect for about 6 weeks before and after the lunar eclipse. (Jayne) However, the author has observed the effect of an eclipse manifesting as long as 1.5 years after the phenomena. Johndro stated that eclipses can have an effect for 3 to 6 years, but he did not write how this variable time span was determined. This writer has seen articles in which Johndro related some event to a series of eclipses. The event was, in one case, a fatal accident. He did so by superimposing a pair of planets symbolic of the event, Mars and Saturn, from all eclipse charts over the previous 5 years. He then demonstrated how phenomena on the fateful day triggered the Mars‐Saturn effect.
3. Eclipses near birth have an effect upon the life of the individual. This eclipse may occur before or after birth. (Johndro)
4. If the natal eclipse is again eclipsed, the effects are very powerful. (Meridian)
5. The path of an eclipse may never concern you unless you are a political leader or if you go to that area. (Jayne) Note: The author has found cases where the path is important in the lives of us mere mortals, even if we do not enter the area.
6. Rules governing eclipse paths (Jayne):
A. The total eclipse is the strongest.
B. The central path is the most powerful part of the eclipse's shadow.

C. Take the path of the eclipse near the birth of a leader, a country, a treaty, a major agreement, a coronation, formation of a government, etc. and explore its route.
D. Superimpose all eclipse paths vital to the subject being studied and note where they bunch. This will be an important area, termed by the author the "primary eclipse family." This can define an entity's sphere of influence or interest. These areas stay 'warm' and can be activated in the future.
E. The primary eclipse area denotes locations where the country's methods tend to work well. When a nation or its leader attempts to go beyond its natal eclipse path, it meets with great resistance. Their modes of politics, economics or warfare do not proceed with the same ease. (Meridian)
F. Movement within an eclipse area can be enhanced or restricted by transiting or progressed aspects to the eclipse horoscopes. (Meridian)
G. Extension lines can be run north and south, or east and west, from sunrise, sunset, or the noon points of the eclipse. (Emerson and Morrison)
H. The central eclipses in a Saros cycle are more powerful in effect than the other eclipses in the same cycle. (Meridian)
I. The intersection of eclipse paths denotes important areas. Intersection of paths related to the same or similar entities makes that area of greater importance for that entity. (Emerson and Morrison)

7. If an eclipse occurs after your birth, see when it becomes exact by secondary progression. This can be a vital year. (Johndro)
8. If a natal planet is conjunct or opposite this eclipse, the planet becomes very powerful for life. (Johndro)
9. Eclipses work in pairs. An eclipse in one sign can be re‐activated by an eclipse in the opposite sign about six months later (Johndro).
10. The events described by an eclipse will frequently fall between this first eclipse and the second which roughly opposes it. (Morrell and Jayne)
The single event that triggers the energy is the square of the transiting Sun to the transiting Node. (Jayne)
11. Eclipses conjunct or opposite the Sun, Ascendant or Midheaven are always more powerful. This is due to the fact that these points have zero latitude by definition. The eclipse will also have zero latitude. Thus, there will be conjunctions and oppositions in both longitude and latitude which are very powerful. See the section about linear configurations. (Jayne)

THE BASICS
Edward Johndro wrote in the late 1930's:
• "Readers must not suppose an eclipse's effect on mankind is limited to the date thereof; not that events follow in the exact order of the eclipse sequence. Rather, eclipses are the highlight patterns of the trends of their joint times.“
• "Thus when we come to planetary causation we must put aside, or view in a new light, our ordinary time concepts and time sequences. We must not confuse the speed and rate of consciousness with the relatively slow speed and rate of our ordinary human consciousness. For if we do we shall continue to insist that in point in time, the cause must precede the event." • "Most of human and world events happen outside our personal lives and world, and out of our ken. We hear or otherwise become aware of them in what to each of us is a 'later' hour, day, or month or year. For each of us, the impersonal or distant event becomes our awareness of it. You would not insist that the event could not precede your awareness of it by weeks or months. It is equally silly to insist that an event cannot precede the eclipse that defines its awareness or shadow pattern."

TIMING WITH ECLIPSES
• Events that derive from an eclipse are usually timed by:
• The time of the eclipse itself
• Subsequent transits over the eclipse degree (0 latitude: Sun,
Node, Ascendant, Midheaven)
• The transit of the Node over the eclipse point is especially
powerful, if it occurs
• The time at which the transiting Sun squares the transiting
Node
• The time of the next eclipse if the next eclipse is roughly
opposite the earlier eclipse
• Johndro’s phase arc. (365 degrees/360 days)
• Eclipses by progression are a separate but related timer.

BEFORE AND AFTER THE ECLIPSE
• Events occurring near eclipses are always memorable. • They tend to add energy to any activity that takes place near them. • These events take on more importance than the same type of event that occurs distant in time from the date of an eclipse. • There is a sharp difference between the 7 to 10 days before and the 7 to 10 days after the eclipse. • Any event or undertaking begun in the period prior to a solar eclipse differs from those actions taken after the eclipse in that they are very fated. That is, matters work out unexpectedly. • Events before and after the eclipse are more important, but the events occurring before the eclipse take on the added attribute of being unpredictable and fated. He considered the period of unpredictability to last until 24 hours after the eclipse.

BORN ON THE DAY OF AN ECLIPSE

"...Were unusually fearless both of physical danger and of the opinions of others about their actions and attitudes. In addition, they were unusually direct and brusque to the point of formidableness, and while they were not quarrelsome, woe betide the person who tried to put something over on them as they were ruthless in their dealings with those who tried to cross them. Oddly enough, the horse Eclipse had somewhat the same character as it would allow no other horse to dominate it or get ahead of it., i.e. the reason why it won all its races. As noted in the previous chapter, the eclipse near birth energizes the birth planet. Eclipses on the Sun, then, can be expected to inflate one's individuality, purpose, and drive. They appear to possess a curious and striking quality of indomitability, a devil‐may‐care fearlessness and independence. I don't mean that they are aggressive, for they do not appear to be that way, but simply that they would be hard people to scare."
While these individuals possess these strong qualities, they also shared a burden. They proved to be part of collective destinies. Their fate was beyond their control. They could not control or deflect the events in their lives. This was due to the latitude factor which is discussed in the Linear Configurations chapter. These folks are swept up in the collective energy of the eclipse. Just as a line up of bodies that produces an eclipse implies conjunctions in both celestial longitude and latitude, these individuals have little latitude in their actions. They are more compelled or forced in their life choices.
Examples: Karl Marx, Emperor Franz Joseph, Czarina of Russia, King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, Jon Benet Ramsey.

JOHNDRO WROTE:

"For most of us, however, the eclipses that affect our nativities are anything from a few days to 6 months, and in some cases a full year before or after our birth dates. In any case, the prime consideration is not just how near this or that eclipse falls to a birth date, but whether the eclipses, or the planet thereat, closely overlay or closely aspect any of the natal planetary positions. If they do, then that eclipse chart is extremely important to you; because in such case the eclipse or its planets intensify or amplify any planet they configure in your birth chart...And by eclipses, I do not mean merely the position of the eclipse itself, I mean the position of any planet or planets at the time of an eclipse relative to any planetary position in the nativity."
"Eclipses quite largely define issues for whole groups. But eclipses forward destiny through the medium of mortals far more than merely through varying the climate, the rainfall, the crops, etc. That is to say, men are so born in time as to respond, in an allotted way, to some particular cosmic purpose delegated, so to speak, through the eclipses. The importance of your allotted role depends greatly upon if and how your nativity ties in with the eclipses (and their) planets in and around your birth year." Example: Bill and the 1949 oil field.

THE MEANING OF THE NATAL ECLIPSE
• The natal eclipse indicates that you eclipse your contemporaries in some respect; you overshadow them. You eclipse your mates in the qualities, faculties, capabilities, or feats indicated by the sign that the eclipse occupies. Johndro liked to illustrate the point with two examples. Payson Weston was born on the day of an eclipse in Pisces‐ his feet made him famous when he became a champion speed walker. Austrian Emperor Franz Josef was born only hours before an eclipse conjunct Saturn in Leo. His royal household was known for tragedy. In fact, the entire Austro‐Hungarian Empire crumbled during his rule. Copyright © Cycles Research, USA, 2012
BASIC APPROACH
• There are 3 types of people to work with:
1. Those born very close to an eclipse (Bill & Marx)
2. Those born about 2 months from one eclipse and 4 months from the other
3. Those that are born about equally between eclipses in time.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR
• There are 4 criteria:
1. Time
2. The fit of the eclipse chart to the natal chart*
3. The path of the eclipse
4. Repetitions of the eclipse and their effect on the person.
• *"One must always anticipate an important aspect from the eclipse degree to a planet in the natal figure which describes the native's destiny in relation to that particular phenomenon. Otherwise it would apply almost indiscriminately to millions of persons born under its influence.“ ‐Charles Emerson

EDISON AND CURIE
• The first example (Edison) demonstrates that the eclipse can be lunar
• The second example (Curie) shows that two eclipses can be equally effective. There were 4 eclipses under consideration. The first was a solar on March 6, 1867 and was conjunct her Moon. The last one was solar on February 23, 1868; the Jupiter in the eclipse chart was conjunct her Moon. Johndro’s conclusion: the eclipses made her a famous woman (Moon‐Jupiter).

JOHNDRO’S EXAMPLE 3
• Guglielmo Marconi was born on April 25, 1874 with Sun at 5 Taurus, Uranus at 7 Leo and Mercury at 9 Aries. Note how his natal Uranus square Sun and trine Mercury are energized by the eclipses: • Solar eclipse on April 16, 1874 with Venus at 7 Taurus and Uranus at 7 Leo.
• *Solar eclipse on October 10, 1874 with Saturn at 8 Aquarius and Mercury at 8 Scorpio. The Mercury‐Saturn square, descriptive of a scientist, in the eclipse chart has an orb of only 16 minutes.
• *Lunar eclipse on October 25, 1874 at 1Taurus conjunct his natal Sun.

JOHNDRO’S EXAMPLE 4
• Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 with Uranus at 24 Gemini, Jupiter at 20 Libra, and Venus at 22 Virgo. In this instance, Johndro stressed that Uranus in the eclipse charts was much closer to a trine of his natal Jupiter (orb=1 degree and 6 minutes) than was his natal Uranus (orb of over 3 degrees). His invention made him rich because his Uranus trine Jupiter and square Venus became mediums of expression of similar energy emanating from the eclipses. • *Lunar eclipse on June 1, 1863 with Uranus at 20 Gemini, Jupiter at 18 Libra, Venus and Mars at 21 Cancer, and Mercury at 27 Gemini.
• *Solar eclipse on May 17, 1863 with Uranus at 20 Gemini, Jupiter at 19 Libra, and Mercury at 18 Gemini.
• The path of the 1863 eclipse connected the USA to Europe. He travelled to Europe to seek peace during WW1. Copyright © Cycles Research, USA, 2012
JOHNDRO’S EXAMPLE 5

JOHNDRO’S EXAMPLE 6
• Writing in an article entitled ‘Seeing is Believing,’ Johndro analyzed
the horoscope of John Breazeale, a deaf news reporter born on July 27, 1898 in Selma, Alabama, time unknown. The person lost his hearing due to an explosion onboard a ship in the Navy. Despite this disability, he had a successful career as a reporter. In this review, Johndro noted that there were 2 eclipses in the month of birth: lunar on July 3, 1898 and solar on July 18, 1898. He wrote, “The latter takes precedence as ‘his eclipse’ by being nearest his birth, July 27, 1898.” Johndro noted that his natal chart had a close square of Mercury‐Uranus and wide Mercury‐Saturn and Mercury‐Mars squares. He wrote that the first eclipse accentuated his communication difficulty because Mercury was 135 degrees to Uranus during the first eclipse. During the second, Mercury was 105 degrees to Uranus with the latter planet opposing Mars. Note that he first considered the eclipse nearest the birthday. He then went to the aspects within the eclipse horoscopes themselves to see if they reinforced major configurations.

LENIN-ECLIPSES CONSIDERED
• There were 6 eclipses in 1870.
• The December eclipse was selected as being dominant because:
1. It was at 0 Capricorn and Lenin affected the world.
2. The eclipse was conjunct his Saturn.
3. The path ran through Europe and highlighted Moscow. This was the German Empire Path. Lenin was born as Bismarck won the Franco‐
Prussian War.

ECLIPSE REPETITIONS
• Natal eclipse‐ June 29, 1946 at 7 Cancer. • June 30, 1954‐ His family moved to Hot Springs. In 1954, his family first began to notice his leadership abilities. In the following year, they bought a television, and young Bill developed his interest in politics.
• June 30, 1973‐ He graduated Yale and returned to Arkansas in 1973, setting his political sights on the 1974 Democratic nomination for Congress. He did not win, but made such a good showing that he came into the spotlight for the first time.
• June 30, 1992‐ The last eclipse gave him the boost that he needed going into the Democratic convention. The Gennifer Flowers affair was hurting his prospects, but this eclipse re‐fired his birth eclipse which is on his midheaven, the north helio node of Jupiter, and his Sun‐Moon midpoint. Note how all of these factors played out before the convention to erase the stain of scandal and enable him to eclipse his rivals. Copyright © Cycles Research, USA, 2012

The President was born on May 29, 1917. There were solar eclipses on January 23, 1917 and on July 18, 1917. The January eclipse was conjunct his Saturn and the July eclipse was opposite his Neptune. There were 2 other solar eclipses in that year, but the pair that were selected were the two that made the closest connections to natal planets in the chart. I settled on the July eclipse (opposite Neptune) for two reasons. First, his history is Neptunian. Dad was in the liquor business and was known for his stock manipulations. JFK commanded at PT boat in WW2 and used the US Navy to blockade Cuba in the Cuban missile crisis. He was linked to the famous Marilyn Monroe. In addition, it was later revealed that he used medications heavily to combat back pain. His path from the July eclipse covering Russia and Turkey. In exchange for the withdrawal of the Russian missiles, the US removed its Titan missile bases in Turkey. Note that the small shadow of the January eclipse was near Antarctica. Later, I came to see that eclipses in the first decanate of Aquarius are connected to changes in Cuban history. Thus, the eclipse series in Aquarius linked Cuba to JFK. There were 4 eclipses near his birth: Solar: February 25, 1952 (6 Pisces) and August 20, 1952 (27 Leo)
Lunar: February 11, 1952 (21 Leo) and August 5, 1952 (13 Aquarius).
•
The 6 Pisces eclipse falls in his third house and that the eclipse Neptune is near his midheaven. David is very talented with communications: he speaks French, English, Arabic, and Czech. He picked the latter two languages up mostly by ear, so we can say that he eclipses other people in terms of this talent. David can also do great imitations and is an excellent teacher. In Abu Dhabi, he was the master at the quiz nights that were held at one local pub. •
In Canada, Dave worked for a bank. Because of his talent with languages, Dave was assigned to work with depositors from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Indian sub‐continent. Note that these areas are all under the eclipse shadow in the eclipse path map. While in Canada, he met and married a lady from Prague and they moved to Abu Dhabi, close to the central path of the eclipse. They now live near Prague under the eclipse path and close to his Mercury‐IC line in his A*C*G map. Dave teaches there. •
Johndro advised looking at the synastry between the eclipse horoscope and the natal chart. Many times, he would see that the natal eclipse planets would make a natal aspect stronger by being more exact in orb. The bi‐wheel of the eclipse and his natal chart show that Neptune, ruler of his third house of communications, is much closer to his MC in the eclipse chart than it is in the natal chart. Note that his Neptune is at 19 Libra, natal MC is at 23 Libra, and the eclipse Neptune is at 21 Libra. Thus, the ruler of his third is closer to his midheaven in the eclipse chart than it is in the natal chart, appropriate for someone whose career is connected to his communication abilities.
