Makarska Riviera lies within the scenic Dalmatian coastline, 35 miles to the south of Split Airport.
Totalling 37 miles north to south, it includes 11 small historic towns/villages, and is reputed to be the
most picturesque of all Croatia’s holiday areas. Our resort, Baska Voda, one of the oldest towns, sits at
the northern end, it’s lengthy promenade continuing from the neighbouring “picture-postcard “ village
of Brela. To the south, sits the main town of Makarska (pop. 17,000), with its myriad of little shops,
cafes, etc., a delight to wander around. Local buses and ferries enable you to explore these villages,
plus the offshore islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula, all with their own charm and historic values. The
hinterland is dominated by the soaring limestone massif of the Biokovo Mountain Range, with its highest
peak at 5,780 feet. Verdant mature pines fill the foothills, with pleasant pathways giving superb views.
A little further north is the small town of Omis, where the river-boats will take you up to the Cetina
Gorge, through which the River Cetina cascades on its way down the valley, into and out of its lake,
en-route to the sea. The surrounding National Park provides superb pathways for long leisure walks.
Set just 60 yards back from the white -pebbled beachfront, the Hotel “Horizont” is a tranquil retreat
amid its surrounding pine trees, with the centre of pretty Baska Voda village a short 5 minute stroll
along the promenade on the front. The village itself has much to offer, being one of the oldest within
this historic area, its colourful, orange-tiled rooftops contrasting with the fresh white paintwork below.
Wander through the quaint narrow streets, filled with tiny shops selling local made wares, then find a
cosy cafe or bar to refresh and relax. You can walk the promenade right through to Brela for a change
of scenery and shops, etc. Our 202 hotel bedrooms, are set over 5 floors (with lift access), and are
tastefully appointed in soft, welcoming decor, carpeted for comfort, and have air-cond., satellite t.v.,
telephone, mini-bar, WiFi, safe-box and balcony or terrace. Fully tiled bathrooms have bath with shower
over, bidet and hairdryer. Downstairs, public areas include a stylish bar & lounge with comfortable leather
furnishings, buffet restaurant presenting a tempting range of local and international dishes, plus two ‘a
la carte’ restaurants for ‘finer dining’ and a beach barbecue, where you can enjoy a lunch ‘al fresco’!!
In addition to the outdoor pool, with loungers and parasols on the sunbathing terrace, the indoor Spa &
Wellness Centre awaits, ready to pamper your every needs (what an array of treatments to choose from
on your return from the gym and fitness studio), or take advantage of the Hairdressing & Beauty Salon.
For the more energetic, there are tennis courts and an indoor pool table. (Is a week long enough???)
