WBC creates the first pension fund for boxers
By Boxing Bob Newman
In a first-of-its-kind event, the WBC and Hublot Watches teamed up to initiate a structured retirement pension
fund for boxers in need through “A Legendary Evening,” held at The Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. Twelve
unique signature watches were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Each watch bore the engraved signature of
one of the twelve select boxers on hand for the event. While former WBC heavyweight champion Ken Norton
wasn’t able to attend due to his recovery from a recent stroke, and multi division champion Oscar De La Hoya
had a family emergency that prevented him from coming, the other ten- George Foreman, Ray Leonard, Larry
Holmes, Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis, Azumah Nelson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson
and Jeff Fenech were on hand to take part in this historic event. Winning bidders got to enter the ring with
their designated champion alongside them, as well as Hublot’s Ricardo Guadalupe, WBC president Jose
Sulaiman and the giant check for $1,000,000 to the WBC pension fund. With the anticipated success of this
inaugural event, it is likely to be repeated next year, and hopefully for years to come.
(WBC Cares wishes to thank Salvador Briman for his hard work in putting this together)

Rocky lives in Brockton!
Nothing could've been sweeter than this weekend in
Brockton for the dedication of the Rocky Marciano
Statue. They estimated 8000+ people from the town
itself showed up on the field for the unveiling; in
addition to members from the WBC and press and
celebrities from the boxing community. Some flew in
from Europe, and some, like Jack Hirsch and Steve +
Raylene drove to get there.
It was an amazing turn out. I am so proud of Jose and
the WBC for giving this town and these young people
something to believe in again. This statue will stand
as an inspiration for those to come. It is the largest
sport's statue in the world! A foundation that links
Brockton's past to it's future!
(WBC Cares wishes to extend their gratitude to Mike George for his amazing coordination of the event!)

WBC Cares performed one of the most emotional
visits . Adrián " Confesor " Hernández visited
Hospital del Niño en Toluca, Edo. de México, a
hospital that specializes in providing treatment to
children with cancer. Among the boxers present
were, Ultiminio Ramos, Bazooka Limón, Carlos
Montes, Tortas Bustos and Lupe Pintor. We all
gathered outside the hospital at 11 am, and were
kindly received by the hospital's director Dr. Eduardo
Chávez. He gave us a tour around the place and we
couldn´t be more impressed as we witnessed the high
quality of equipment they have, and the high sense of
humanity of the staff. Adrián was very close to the
children, he told them not to quit as he signed
autographs for them and their families. Laptops,
Xbox and Wii were donated by the promoter to the
hospital in order to be used by the interns. It was a
very touching experience for the WBC Cares.

Limón, Carlos Montes, Tortas Bustos y Lupe Pintor.

Saturday, August
11th,
the
WBC Cares family witnessed the power of dreaming.
Dreams can be true if only you wish for them from
the bottom of your heart. Brandon and Alexis, two
Mexican
kids,
had
the
fortune
to
meet Leticia Peralta, director from Fundación La
Magia de un Sueño. The Foundation has one mission
: Making dreams come true for those children whose
lives are threatened by a disease or illness. They
contacted us, because the dream of these young kids
was
to
meet Juan
Manuel "Dinamita"
Márquez. Thanks to the WBCCares , it happened.
We scheduled the visit and were all there
on Saturday 11th, and had a lovely reunion.
Márquez was very close to the kids and their
families. He spoke to them about the power of
fighting for goals. Everyone had a picture and an
autograph. Of course Brandon and Alexis , received
their champion mini belt. It was a very happy day for
the WBC Cares family.
Ring 8 Picnic For Retired Boxers
"Dinamita"
Márquez.
El
deseo
se
hizo
realidad gracias al WBC Cares. Se agendó la visita y
ahí estuvimos todos compartiendo un rato muy
agradable.
Wbc Champion Yota Sto
Zac Young And Costa Rica
WBC Champion Yota Sto of Kyoei Promotions took
great pride in visiting his hometown, Morioka City.
This was one of the areas that was devastated by the
Tsunami in Japan. He spent time with the children in
a local elementary school, inspiring them to move
beyond their sadness into the a wonderful future of
possibilities.l His WBC Belt never left his side, as the
children responded happily to his message of hope.

In the past months WBC cares events have drawn
attention from numerous people that show interest in
becoming part of the program. Jaime Enrique Gentry
and Rene Mora are two of our most recent
benefactors. They recently gathered food and goods
and donated meat, clothes and nonperishable food to
the Casa Hogar Sonrisa de Angel. This organization
provides breakfast to children in the community and
houses homeless children free of charge.

WBC Cares Visit An Orphanage Of Women
By Christiane Manzur
Today, July 5th, WBC Cares visited an orphanage
that is in charge of helping girls and young women,
solve their familiar and legal problems. Most of them
, arrived at the house being separated from their
families due to domestic violence .Champion
Nishioka was "the star" among all the present. He
spoke for a while (with the help of an interpretor)
and made clear thateverything is possible if you work
hard to get it. César Bazán, Ultiminio Ramos, Victor
Manuel Rabanales, Carlos Cuadras, Isaac Bustoswere

touched to see how our champions can be so
sensitive with the most vulnerable. They do have

WBC Cares Visita Un Orfanato De Mujeres
