LOME - A concession agreement for the rehabilitation, extension and use of the Thermal
Power Station of Lomé (CTL) was signed yesterday in the office of the Ministry of
Finance, Budget and Privatization between the Republic of Togo and ContourGlobalTogo. The signature of this agreement follows a decree taken in the Council of Ministers
on October 18, 2006.
The rehabilitation of equipment, the extension of the production capacity of the CTL by
the installation of two new turbines of 50MW each that are able to operate with natural
gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline, and the provision of electricity by CEB will allow
the avoidance of the untimely power cuts and the energy crisis that Togo has known for
the past several years.
The concession agreement was signed by the president of the board of ContourGlobalTogo, Alain Tronche, and on the Togolese side by the Minister of Mines and Energy,
Professor Léopold Messan Gnininvi and by the Minister of Finance, Budget and
Privatization, Payadowa Boukpessi. By this act, the Togolese government demonstrates
its strong will to promote national power production in order to achieve energy selfsufficiency and to secure the country's power supply through the diversification of
generation independent of climactic risks, notably through the return to service of the
CTL.
