BETTER LIVING THROUGH
TECHNOLOGY
As a high volume, high profile
healthcare solutions provider, Air
Liquide has always maintained
a keen focus on technological
innovation. The company
has developed a five year IT
roadmap with an eye on full
traceability, reduced paperwork
and increased integration
between systems. All patients
are geocoded and all trucks are
equipped with a GPS system.
“If you want to stay on top
of your business, you need to
invest in new research and
technology,” Giard says.

In line with its commitment
to contribute to a sustainable
healthcare system, provide costeffective solutions and help patients
live longer and better, VitalAire
invests heavily in industry-leading
research and development. The
company has eight worldwide sites
staffed with dedicated healthcare
research teams.
A perfect example of the
industry-leading output of this
research is Intelli-Ox™, the
first digital oxygen cylinder in
the North American market.
Piloted earlier this year in BC,
Intelli-OX™ has proven itself
as a clinically superior cylinder
that saves the healthcare system
significant time and money. In

patient care concepts such as
disease prevention and improved
quality of life.
“Traditionally in our healthcare
system, patients have been treated
on a one time basis instead of
looking at the long term costs
and patient needs,” says Giard.
“Treating a patient today is one
cost, but treating them in a more

global way may lead to a lower cost and improved
quality in the long run. A hospital bed is probably
about $2,000 a day, depending on the hospital. For that
amount of money, you can have your patient stay home
and have long-term follow up performed by a homecare
company. This will lead to an improved quality of
life and better care for the patient while dramatically
reducing readmission rates. But the healthcare system
has to support this change through more coherent
regulations across the country. As a society, we need to
look at the global care we give to patients.”
