Cake to honor Crown City’s birthday
A
spectacular birthday cake will be
the centerpiece of Pasadena’s
125th birthday celebration on
Saturday, June 11, from noon to 7 p.m.
The culinary creation, designed and
produced by chefs from Le Cordon Bleu
College of Culinary Arts especially for
this occasion, will illustrate Pasadena
history in sugar, cake, icing and fondant.
The five-foot-tall, 300-pound confection
will cover many of the iconic aspects of
the Crown City, from Pasadena’s agricultural beginnings (an orange grove), to its
landmarks (Rose Bowl, Colorado Street
Bridge, Arroyo Seco Parkway/Pasadena
Freeway), celebrations (Rose Parade, Doo
Dah Parade), celebrities (the Little Old
Lady from Pasadena!), and much more.
The gala cake cutting ceremony, with
Mayor Bill Bogaard and other dignitaries, will begin at 3 p.m. While the main
cake poses for viewing and photographs,
party guests will be treated to slices of
the 24 additional cakes that the chefs
have baked just for serving in the winning flavor combination: Tuxedo —
white cake, chocolate cake, white chocolate mousse and fudge filling, whipped
vanilla chantilly cream and chocolate
ganache.
The festivities, which will take place
throughout the grounds of Pasadena
Museum of History and the adjacent
Avery Dennison center, will also include:
★ Continuous live music, dance,
theatre and storytelling, on two stages;
★ Special entertainment and activities
for children and families;
★ History displays and live presentations from some of the city’s outstanding
businesses and organizations;
★ A Food Patio featuring a variety of
delicious cuisines prepared by favorite
local restaurants;
★ Signature cocktails created especially
for Happy Birthday Pasadena, available
in the exclusive, stage-adjacent Bar
Lounge;
★ Raffle opportunities on unique
baskets filled with items designed to help
you celebrate your own special birthdays;
★ Antique cars, fire truck, the Wells
Fargo stagecoach, and more.
Happy Birthday Pasadena is presented
by Pasadena Museum of History in
partnership with the city of Pasadena
and with support from numerous individuals, businesses, and community organizations.
Admission and parking (at Avery and
Parsons) are free. For additional information, visit www.pasadenahistory.org or
