Headmaster’s Welcome
As May arrives with bright colours, loud birdsong and warmer longer days, hopefully we are all filled with a
renewed love of life and energy about the future. May is truly a spectacular month bringing such promise and
optimism about the coming summer.
It is a wonderful time to be a teacher, children can access the outdoors far more frequently without all their
cold weather clothes. We can all enjoy the fresh air and witness the plants and wildlife rejuvenating. I think it
is also a time to try new things; walks through the bluebell woods, bike rides through verdant country lanes,
planting new dahlias to name just a few.
With Shakespeare’s recent 400th anniversary in mind, his line from Hamlet seems very appropriate, “We know
what we are, but not what we may be.”
With the idea of trying new experiences in mind, parents and staff will be participating in the Colour Run at
Windsor on Sunday… I look forward to seeing you there!

Rounders v Gayhurst
Year 4 had their first rounders game against Gayhurst on Tuesday. Both teachers coached the girls throughout
the game as neither had yet had much practice. There were some promising hits from several of our girls; Sara
and Esha were close to scoring rounders but were just run out. Summer was the hero of the day, scoring a
complete rounder, while Millie-Rose and Roshni scored good halves. The final score was 3 ½ rounders to
Dair House and 4 rounders to Gayhurst, making it a really exciting and close game.

Rounders v St Mary’s, Henley
What could be better than playing rounders on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Henley on Thames? It was
a game played in great spirit and I was so pleased to see the girls working well as a team. All our 11 girls
played, fielded and supported each other well. St Mary’s had a challenging bowler, but there were great hits
from Georgia, Carys, Niya, Ellie and Molly. The girls scored some great rounders, especially Keira who ran like
the wind! The final score was 9½ – 11. Carys and Georgia were voted players of the match for some super
fielding, including one clean catch from Georgia.

Swimming v Gayhurst
The swimming lessons are working well, 22 children across three year groups participated in the swimming
match on Thursday. The children were delightful to take and enjoyed the experience. Many performed a
racing dive and they could not have shown more effort and determination. Special mention goes to the Year 3
boys who were worthy members of the Year 4 team and Millie-Rose who finished second in her race. Many
thanks to all the parents for their cheerleading.

Cricket v St Mary’s, Henley
Our Year 5 and 6 boys played a wonderful game of cricket against St Mary’s from Henley on Thursday. It was
a most pleasant afternoon, made all the more pleasant by our 47-44 victory. The team was ably captained by
Kyle, who produced some excellent bowling and dismissed several members of the opposing team. There was
also some excellent batting by Stanley and Finlay.

Vicky: When I was up on deck, I felt a bit scared but I was still excited.
Evening Walk
Thomas: We were told lots of really scary ghost stories on the walk then we fed the ducks.
Seher: When we went on our evening walk we fed the ducks. Some of them were really greedy!
Sweet Shop
Georgia: The best sweet-shop experience ever!
Nick: The sweet shop was very interesting and made me very hungry. The man was
very nice.
Finlay: The sweet shop had an amazing smell inside and the man showed you how to
make sweets. We shaped the mixture to make our own design.
Dana: I liked eating the lollipops after we made them.
Berck Beach
Kyle: We had some time to play on the beach. Then we had a
delicious picnic but an absolutely disastrous game of rounders.
Ice Cream
Rhia: After the beach,
we went to the ice
cream shop. I had
vanilla. It was delicious!
Market
Stanley: I really enjoyed the market because you got to
experience the French environment and you were able to buy
lots of goodies.
Humzah: I enjoyed the market because I was able to buy a
gold watch and medallion. I was then called ‘Bling, Bling’!
Mayo Making
Ian: At the château
we were taught how
to make mayonnaise
by hand.
Veer: The
experience of
mayonnaise-making
was amazing. Even
better, my team
won!!
Years 5 and 6 in France
Château Olympics
Keira: The Château Olympics were so silly. We had to throw boots with holes in
them.
Bakery
Carys: Rolling the croissants was excellent. It was as though I was a proper baker.
Ajai: I had never made croissants by hand before. It was the best thing ever!
Snail Farm
Max: I never thought I’d be brave enough to eat snails.
Alex: The snail biscuits tasted lovely. I never thought they could be that good!
Jason: It was exciting to hold a snail and to try snail products. They were chewy.
Eating Snails and Frogs’ Legs
Paddy: Stanley and I ate frogs’ legs for the first time at the Château. They were delicious!
Nausicaa
Niya: I really enjoyed seeing the penguins jump into the water.
Joshua: The turtle in the aquarium looked amazingly beautiful.
Samraj: The marine life in Nausicaa was spectacular!
Maddy: I could have watched the sharks forever! They were
ginormous.
Alec: I liked Nausicaa because it was a massive aquarium.
Conclusion
Molly: The whole experience was fantastic!
Monty: I enjoyed the whole week!
Alice: I didn’t feel like I was in France until I was in the shops
speaking French.
Rushil: It was fun going around finding foods and their prices in
the hypermarket.
Years 1 and 2 at the Cotswold Wildlife Park
Yesterday Year 1 and Year 2 went to the Costwold Wildlife Park. We went by coach. When we got there the
first animal we saw was the penguins. There were 27. After a few animals we had a rhino talk. The lady said
that white rhinos have flat lips. A herd of rhinos is called a crash. Their names were Nancy, Astrid, Monty,
Ruby, Ian and John. Then we went on to the zebras. There were three zebras. When they went together I
thought there was one in the field because their camouflage is very good. Then we saw the lions. The female
lion looked tired and the male lion was being lazy. The lions were from Asia. Then we saw the giraffes. Their
names were Wallace, Century and Stanley.
Kadin
On Thursday 28th April we went to the Cotswold Wildlife Park. We travelled there by coach. First we went to
see the penguins. They were flapping about around the pool. When we went back to them they were
swimming in the pool. We had a talk about Africa with a zoo keeper. We talked about the rhinos. The zoo
keeper told us the names of each rhino. She told us they didn’t have very good eyesight so if you stood closer
they would probably see you and they might charge. But mostly that won’t happen. We saw two lions. They
were the very rare Asiatic lions. There are only 500 left in the wild. Lions are carnivores. They are very vicious,
lions are. They run very fast. We saw the skull of a lion. It even had the teeth attached. The Asiatic lion lives
in Asia, not Africa.
Zen
Years 1 and 2 at the Cotswold Wildlife Park
On Thursday 28th April 2016 the Years 1 and 2 went to the Cotswold Wildlife Park. We got on the coach when
we got there we had a picnic. We had a biscuit and water then we went to see the penguins. Next we saw the
meercats. One was on lookout and they were fast runners. Next we saw hamsters, one jumped up and the
other went into a hole. Next we saw the squirrel monkeys. We saw flamingos too and ducks. Then we went
to the reptile house. We saw an anaconda, a crocodile, we saw a red frog, a chameleon and a fruit bat. Next
we went to the insect house. I saw piranhas, tree frogs and then we saw a lady. We saw toucans, we knew if it
was a boy or a girl because the boy would have red eyes and the girl has blue eyes and they have humps on
their head to battle with. We went to see the sloths, there was a fast one. Then it was time for lunch. After
lunch we went to the shop first. We had a look round and then we chose. I got a peacock and then we went
on the train. We saw a lion and we saw some rhinos and then we went for a Fab. After that we saw the
capybara. We had a picture on the gate and then we saw tapirs. We had a picture on the gate and then we
went on the coach.
Rahul
On Thursday 28th April 2016 the Years 1 and 2 went to the Cotswold Wildlife Park. We saw a sloth and I liked
the sloth, it was so slow and it was amazing. After that we saw a fruit bat and the fruit bat was scary so I loved
it and they eat fruit. Before that we saw the penguins and they eat fish and the smell was beautiful and then
we saw a lemur. One lemur said, ‘I’m the King of the jungle’ and another was on the roof. After that we ate a
big snack, it was cold. We saw an anaconda, it was so big and the water was golden and in the water there was
a plant. We saw some ants, they were so fast they were like a flash and they held leaves. After that we saw
spiders. They were scary. They made a long web. I was scared. Also I was scared about the anaconda. After
that we saw a crocodile. The crocodile had a baby. And after that we saw a red frog. After that we saw a
toucan. The toucan had red eyes and then we saw a spider monkey and it had a baby. After that we went on
the train. On the train we saw a lion. And then we saw a bird chasing Mrs Newton-Adair, it was fun. After we
saw a camel, a baby was running. Then we went to the bus to eat lunch. Then we had ice creams. It was the
best day for everyone, even for me.
Ibrahim
Year 2 Assembly
Year 2 performed a super assembly on Thursday in which they presented their extremely impressive musical
talents. There were five pianists, a violinist and a trombone player as well as a wonderful quartet singing ‘The
Bare Necessities’. They introduced each act with excellent clarity and confidence and they all played very well.
They finished with a fantastic rendition on the recorder.
