We are all enjoying the sunshine and warm
temperatures. Let’s hope for a warm June leading
into a beautiful summer.
As you will see from our Upcoming Dates, we still
have many important dates and activities in the
remaining four weeks. As noted in our previous
newsletter, we are doing some preliminary organization around next
year’s staffing and class organization. As we know, what is organized in
June can look very different by September due to fluctuating enrolments.
For all students in Bluewater District School Board, placement in classes
during the month of September is considered tentative and is subject to
change while the school’s final enrolment is determined. Therefore, there
is the potential for your child(ren) to have a change in their classroom
teacher and/or classroom. Any changes required would be completed by
early October.

Freezie Frenzy is back! Hello Wildcat families, as
you know, the country of Nepal has been rocked by two devastating
earthquakes in recent weeks. As part of our work toward
supporting Global initiatives, the Me2We group plans to send some
financial aid to those affected. We are also excited to be able to
take advantage of the government matching program to “double our
donation”. In June, we are holding three "Freezie Fun Days" to raise money on behalf our school. Orders
were taken last week and we were able to donate $750.00 to the Red Cross for Nepal .
As always, we truly appreciate your support!

SCC News and Updates
Meeting: May 19, 2015 (final for this school year)
The SCC has once again applied for a Parent’s Reaching Out grant to fund a Family Literacy night for the upcoming
school year. The committee will know in the fall if the application was successful.
Mrs. Rayner gave the Principal’s report in which she noted the many events going on in the school within the
remaining few weeks. She noted how proud the school and community were of our senior band and Mr. Patterson for
their recent success at the MusicFest Nationals in Toronto.
Committee reports included an update about our upcoming annual Fun Fair. Many plans are in place for another fun
family event for our school community. Volunteers are still needed to help out with this event. Contact Barb Harris if
you can spare some time. Many thanks to Barb for once again taking on the lead role in organizing this fundraiser!
The Wildcat Outside Pride committee is pleased with their “Painting Fish” fundraiser and we will soon see the
colourful fish adorning our school fences. The pizza fundraiser was a success and we thank all of our families who
supported this event. The committee is busy submitting grant applications for funding to build an outdoor classroom.
Stay tuned for further developments!
It has been a busy and productive year for the School Community Council. We thank Sue Hilbers for doing a
wonderful job as our chairperson this year. As well, we thank all of our other executive members and parents who
took time to come out to our SCC meetings. Next year’s meetings will be posted on our calendar magnet which all
families will receive in September. Thank you for another great year at EPESCS!
Volunteers are important at ÉPESCS!
On Friday, May 22nd, EPESC volunteers were invited to a
luncheon. The school gym was transformed into a
beautiful Cafe. A special thanks to all the students who
created beautiful artwork to decorate our "Cafe". The
teachers prepared a variety of lunch items. While the
volunteers enjoyed their lunch, they were entertained with
poems, songs, a dance, a rap, some juggling tricks and
jazz numbers. We wanted to make it a special day for our
volunteers who take the time to make a difference at our school. Thanks for everything you do!

School Supplies for September 2015
Each year it can be an exciting, yet expensive, proposition to
get ready for going back to school. We would like to remind
our parents that the school will provide
basic supplies that will be for shared
access in each classroom. If your child
would prefer to bring his/her own
personal school supplies they are welcome
to do so. A recommended list of school
supplies for September 2015 will be
included in your child’s report card in June.
We also currently have several new pencil cases and
backpacks complete with school supplies available in our
office. Just speak with your child’s teacher or Mrs. Rayner if
you would like one of these.
As well, each year the United Way provides thousands of
backpacks to families in need. To register for support with
this organization, just call 211, or applications are also
available at the school office.
Either way, support is always available.

The DARE
(Define Assess Respond Evaluate) Program
D.A.R.E by Jaydn Chin, 5 Ernst
Hello, I’m writing about the D.A.R.E. program. It is very useful because we learn about
the dangers of drugs and about a decision making model. This helps us to make good
choices when we experience situations that may have both good and bad consequences.
Officer Primeau, delivers the program to all of the grade 5 students. I have enjoyed the
D.A.R.E. program.
D.A.R.E by Emma Nason, 5 Ernst
This spring all grade five students at E.P.E.S.C.S. participated in the D.A.R.E. program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). We learned about the dangers of drugs and smoking and about bullies and bystanders. We used the D.A.R.E.
decision making model to evaluate situations. (Define, Assess, Respond, Evaluate). This helps us to make good choices in
decision making with positive and negative consequences. Thanks to Constable Primeau because she delivered this
program to the grade 5 students who enjoyed 9 lessons and a celebration at the end!
DEER PROGRAM
The D.E.E.R. Program by Dylan Poulson, 5 Ernst
On May 7th, 2015 all of the grade 5 students at E.P.E.S.C.S. explored the D.E.E.R. program at the Bruce Power Visitor
Centre. We learned about different types of energy resources such as hydroelectric power. We also learned that electricity
wants to go down to the ground. The D.E.E.R. program is by far the best field trip that I have ever been on!
D.E.E.R. Program by Carly Kuhl, 5 Ernst
A couple of weeks ago, all of the grade 5 students in my school, (E.P.E.S.C.S.) travelled to the D.E.E.R. (Discover
Energized Environmental Resources) program at the Bruce Power Visitor Centre. It was so awesome! We got to
experience all kinds of science in a very fun way that we all enjoyed! We all got to explore the visitor centre as well. We
also travelled to the shoreline to use nets to catch “creatures” that live in the water. We found a water snake and we were
able to touch it to see how it felt.
D.E.E.R by Isha Rana, 5 Ernst
On May 7th, all the grade 5 students at E.P.E.S.C.S. departed for the
Bruce Power Visitor’s Centre to learn about Energy Sources. In the
morning, we learned about different types of energy sources and we
participated in a wetland study in the afternoon. We all made solar
overs and some of us did experiments. They were really cool! In the
afternoon, we all got on a bus and travelled to a wetland near Bruce A.
We found a water snake and were able to touch it. It was an amazing
trip!
Concours winners
Canadian Parents for French ( CPF) congratulates our EPESCS
students who advanced to Concours d'art Oratoire at York
University Glendon Campus. Cydney Morris, Amy Oliveira and
Quinn Fowler who had previously won 1st place in their
categories at Concours in Chesley had a chance to present
their speeches along with students from all across Ontario, in
front of judges on May 9th in Toronto. They received valuable feedback and were then
presented with their gold medals, cer-ficates and CPF shirts. An amazing experience was
had by all students and they were entertained by Canadian singer, songwriter Mike Ford!!
CPF is extremely proud of our students and our two languages!
Legion Posters and Speeches
Hiba Rana took part in the C-4 poster contest Colour (Primary), she placed 1st in the
school Branch #340 Port Elgin level and went on to the
