Flu Vaccine Available in Nevada
NEVADA, Iowa – McFarland Clinic now has seasonal flu vaccinations available for patients. This year’s vaccination
will protect people from two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.
Flu season can be very unpredictable and can vary from season to season. Seasonal flu activity can begin as early

CHOCOLATERIE STAM CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
Ames location in Historic Main Street Cultural District opened in 2006
October 4, 2013 (Ames, Iowa) – Back in 1913, a family in Holland opened a store serving
the finest chocolate found throughout the Netherlands. That family, the Stams, operated
their business in Holland for decades, with different generations of Stams leading the
family-run company. Nearly 80 years later, in 1997, founder Jacobus Stam’s grandson, Ton
Stam, brought those original European chocolate recipes developed by his family to the
United States and opened the first Chocolaterie Stam store In West Des Moines, IA. Today,
that same family is operating the same company on “both sides of the pond” with familyowned stores in Des Moines, IA and Middleton, WI along with supporting their “family
shops” in four other states, totaling nine stores throughout the Midwest - including one of
them in Ames.
Chocolaterie Stam formed after the family gained a reputation for quality pastries and
chocolates in Holland in the early 1900’s. All of the family’s famous chocolate bonbons
distributed in the United States are prepared by Dutch Master Chocolatier, Erik Stam, at
the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Des Moines. The family-perfected, rich chocolate
originates from Belgium, and is the top-secret, original family recipe created by its founder
in 1913.
Decades later, on November 17, 2006, Terry and Anne Stark opened the first non-family
owned Chocolaterie Stam at 230 Main Street in Ames, IA. Now a staple in the Ames
community, customers can find the shop located on the historic downtown Main Street.
Orders come in from all over the world, as well right down the street. “We have made this
our primary business and we can’t think of doing anything else or anywhere else. We have
great clients from all over Iowa, the US and other countries” said Terry Stark.
This year, the entire Stam family, as well as their extended family (including the Starks), are
celebrating 100 years in business with a series of events both in the communities they
serve as well as in each of their stores. You are invited to Chocolaterie Stam Ames for an
Ames Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on October 31, 2013 at 5 p.m., celebrating the
stores continued successes. Guests can sample chocolate and gelato. There will be wine
tasting and musical entertainment during the evening. Customers can follow Chocolaterie
Stam Ames on Facebook and Twitter.
The company and Stam family are also planning the first annual Stam Chocolate Charity
Run in Des Moines on Saturday, November 16, 2013 with all net proceeds going to the
John Stoddard Cancer Center, an organization close to the Stam family. For more
information about this community event and fundraiser, visit www.stamchocolate.com.
