SWITCH 3 - THE BAND
CALM BEFORE - THE ALBUM
Switch 3 was formed in Canberra, ACT, toward the end of 2002. Drawing
from influences as diverse as The Cure through to Iron Maiden, Switch 3
has developed a unique blend of heavy rock that combines massive
guitars, technical drumming and addictive vocal melodies. Traversing
many different genres, Switch 3 manages to capture an aggressive yet
approachable edge that has won them a legion of loyal fans.
Switch 3’s debut album, Calm Before, is a refreshingly honest exploration
of melody over theatrics, forgoing contrived quirkiness in the pursuit of
substance. Introspective and haunting, the album captures both light
and dark with reflective lyrics and powerful vocals.
The band’s first EP, Memories Fade, achieved coverage on Australian
commercial radio, while the title track’s accompanying film clip aired
nationally on television. The film clip went on to win a number of
prestigious national and international awards including the top Jury Prize
at the International Short Film Festival in Europe. The band appeared as
guests on numerous talkback radio stations and made a special
appearance on the very popular Saturday Disney television show.
Plenty of big guitars, intricate beats and strong melodic content forges a
contemporary sound without replicating what has already been done.
Recorded with ARIA Award winner Anton Hagop (Powderfinger, Missy
Higgins, Will Smith, silverchair) and mastered by Ted Jensen of Sterling
Sound in New York (Madonna, AC/DC, My Chemical Romance, Kings of
Leon), Calm Before is a collection of rocking tales from one of Australia’s
new talents.
Lead single, Come To Me, Track 3.
Since inception, Switch 3 has shared the stage with major Australian and
International acts including: CKY (USA), No Use For A Name (USA), From
Autumn To Ashes (USA), The Bled (USA), Faith (JPN), Engrave (JPN), The
Butterfly Effect, Karnivool, Grinspoon, Gyroscope, Screaming Jets, Bodyjar
and many others.
In addition to the rigors of touring, Switch 3 continues to represent
various endorsers at special events and has appeared on behalf of Yamaha
at the Adelaide Guitar Show, Perisher Blue at the Spring Carnival, and
Smith Optics at Rail Jam 1 and 2. The band has also appeared on behalf of
the Australian Capital Territory Government and Australian Federal
Government at events including National Youth Week and Australia Day.
Along with the national circuit, Switch 3 has completed a highly successful
tour to Japan with sold out shows in Tokyo, Osaka and Shirahama. Given
strong interest from Asia, Switch 3 has worked closely with its partners to
install a full touring rig in Shenzhen, China, with plans to use this as a base
for expansion throughout 2009.
Currently split between Brisbane and Canberra, the band continues to
remain totally independent.
