CHILDCARE
PlayCenter ages 3 months-9 years: Our PlayCenter offers
playful and engaging options for your children while you
exercise or connect with others over shared interests. Your
peace of mind and the happiness of your child are the
priorities of our long time and experienced staff. They will
help your child grow socially through games, informal play,
sharing and taking turns. Children are provided with positive
social experiences in a secure, playful environment while in
our care. Our Playcenter is a free drop-off service for
facility members only. There is a 2-hour maximum per child
per day, up to 10 hours per week.

Dynamite Days Off Camps ages PK-12:
During DeKalb County/City of Decatur school
holiday breaks our qualified counselors will
lead activities that will help build your child’s
self confidence, strengthen their social skills,
deepen their respect for others and build
lasting relationships. Activities may include
swimming, crafts, sports and group games.
Pack a lunch, drink, two snacks, swim suit

Summer Day Camps ages 3-13: Summer
camp, like many YMCA youth programs, is
about learning skills, developing character

KIDS TRI
Kids Triathlon Training ages 6-15: This FREE
training program is open to kids who are
registered for the Atlanta Kids Triathlon in
August. Trainings take place at the Y and will
consist of fundamental and endurance

Our gymnastics program runs in sessions DURING THE
SCHOOL YEAR.
PROGRESSIVE
PRESCHOOL & BOYS
Progressive Gymnastics girls ages 6-12: Our
Gymnastics program is based on YMCA and
AAU skill evaluations. Students will learn
different skills at each level and will build
upon them progressively. Children MUST be
six years old to enroll in a progressive class.
Progressive 1: Children who have never
taken gymnastics before. Classes are 1 hour.
Progressive 2: Must be able to do a
cartwheel, backward roll, handstand & bridge.
Classes are 1 hour.
Progressive 2.5: Designed for girls
almost ready for Progressive 3. Focus will be
on becoming stronger on the bars. Classes
are 1 hour.
Progressive 3: Advanced beginners must be
able to do a basic round off, backbend, hand
stand, forward roll, pull over and casting.
Classes are 1.5 hours.
Progressive 4: Must be able to do a pullover
on the bars, cast on bars, backward roll,
backbend, walk on releve, perform a
T-lever and straight jump on high beam.
Classes are 1.5 hours.

Preschool & Boys-Only Gymnastics ages 2-10: Our
programs offer an introduction to all early gymnastics
venues. Specifically designed to enhance body awareness,
balance, coordination, core strength and self–confidence.
Boys should wear sweatpants/shorts & t-shirt, and girls
should wear leotard or shorts & t-shirt with hair pulled back.
Preschool Classes:
2 year olds boys & girls: Must be able to be in
class without a parent and must be able to sit &
wait their turn.
3- to 4-year-old boys & girls
4- to 5-year-old boys & girls
Boys-Only Classes:
3- to 4-year-old boys only
5- to 9-year-old boys only
5-10 year old boys only (advanced): This is
for older boys who are ready to take it to the
next level! Boys must be able to do a bridge,
handstand, cartwheel and hold a front support
on the bars. Director approval required.

Gym-n-Dance coed ages 3-5: Dance is a
very important part of gymnastics. This class will combine 30
minutes of gymnastics with 30 minutes of beginning ballet.
Please wear a leotard and ballet shoes to class.
GYMNASTICS TEAM
by invitation only
Girls Competitive Gymnastics Team ages 4-15: A place
for girls who work hard and have a drive to be the best
gymnast that they can be. This program is a year round
commitment for parents and gymnasts. Gymnasts must
try out to participate on the team. Tryouts are held
between April and May.

Hot Shots coed ages 3-5: Advanced preschool

Teen Center is designed to help you make the most of the
time you are not in school. Whether you love sports, art,
want to get in shape for the upcoming sports season, or just
want to hang out and get your homework done with
your friends, the Teen Center is the place to be!
Teen Center School Year Hours:

Saturday: 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Friday Teen Nights: Come out and enjoy this
FREE night filled with music, games, basketball,
video games, dodgeball and more. Pizza and

Jr/Sr Teen Board ages 10-18: Teen Board is a
great way to stay connected to the Y and be part
of the Y's future. The Board is comprised of
10-12 students who meet throughout the year
to help make decisions about programs, events,
recruiting, fundraising and community impact.

excited to announce our newest Teen
Leadership Development program, the
Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA). Join us
as we partner with YMCA Camp High
Harbour to develop and equip teens
through service, adventure,
leadership and technical training

Fitlinxx and Equipment Orientation free for members
ages 13+: YMCA Wellness coaches are available to answer
your fitness questions, provide instruction on how to use
the FitLinxx-Training Partner technology and design a safe,
effective exercise routine. Schedule appointments at the
WelcomeCenter.
Family Fitness ages 9 & up: Develop a fitness routine and
exercise side by side with your child in the Wellness Center.
Build healthy habits together to last a lifetime! Families may
use the Wellness Center together during all Y hours of
operation. Stop by Member Services, and schedule your
child’s youth wellness center orientation to begin.
Youth ages 9-12 may participate in group
classes only if accompanied by a parent or
guardian 18 years of age or older and who is
a member. The following exclusions apply:
Body Pump and Cycling. If a participant’s
safety is compromised, the YMCA Certified
Group Exercise Instructors reserve the right
to redirect a member to a more appropriate
class.
Water Group Exercise Classes: Water
group exercise classes provide significant
cardiovascular and strength training benefits
while reducing the burden on stress-bearing
joints and muscles. This is a workout that is
appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.

Swim Lessons
The purpose of YMCA swim lessons is to develop competency
in swimming, as well as confidence, and endurance. Each
class has five components: Personal Safety, Personal Growth,
Stroke Development, Water Sports and Games, and Rescue.
Each class also incorporates character values such as caring,
honesty, respect, and responsibility. A variety of class times
and types are available to meet your family’s needs including
morning, afternoon, evening and weekend options.
PARENT/CHILD CLASSES
ages 6-36 months with a parent
Kids have fun while becoming more comfortable in and
around the water, while parents learn how to teach their
child aquatic skills and how to be safe. Songs and
developmentally appropriate games that use basic
movements in the water such kicking, arm strokes and
blowing bubbles, encourage socialization with other families
with children of the same age. Parents do get in the water
with their children. Swim diapers and plastic pants are
required for children not yet potty-trained. 30-minute
classes.
Skipper parents and tots ages 6-12 months: Game
playing, songs, and blowing bubbles. We emphasize water
safety, water adjustment skills, and basic swim movements.

Splash parents and tots ages 12-36 months: For
toddlers who need more of a challenge or who are trying
move independently in the water. The instructor prepares the
toddlers for the Pike classes. More Info + Register!
PRESCHOOL CLASSES ages 3-5
Preschoolers learn the basic skills that are building blocks of
swimming, as well as pool and boating safety, and the use of
personal floatation devices. To encourage skill development,
this 30-minute class is taught by a trained instructor with a
1:6 instructor to child ratio. Classes are progressive. Most
swimmers begin in Pike or Pike 2, however swimmers may be
placed in other levels based on their skill level.
Pike (beginner): Pike is designed for new swimmers.
Children learn safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and
develop independent movement in the water. Children learn
pool safety, kicking skills, bubble blowing and the first steps
of rhythmic breathing. More Info + Register!

No matter the season or reason...
it’s a great time to learn to swim!
Pike 2 (intermediate-beginner): Pike 2 is a
class designed for children who have had
previous experience in swimming lessons, or
who are comfortable in the water in a class
setting. Swimmers will work on independent
movement (on front and back) and work on
faces in the water and arm pulls, kicking on
back and arms.More Info + Register!
Eel (intermediate): This advanced-beginner
level is for children who can put face in
water, float on back & front w/assistance,
and swim 5 feet without floatation.
Swimmers are taught arm movements and
learn to integrate the kick and float for a
progressive and independent paddle stroke.
Children can swim independently by the end
of this level. More Info + Register!
Ray (advanced): The Ray level improves skills
and endurance. Swimmers should be able to
swim without floatation device 15 feet, float
on front and back, and jump into water
without help. Swimmers will learn to swim on
their front and back in a more streamlined
position. Instruction emphasizes more
advanced personal safety and rescue skills,
which includes treading water. Children can
swim 10 yards without assistance by the end

Starfish (advanced): Starfish is for
swimmers who can tread water, swim 25 feet
using a modified crawl stroke and swim on
back. Swimmers will learn the fundamentals
of lap swimming, swimming as part of a team,
and the basics of the four competitive
strokes. Children can swim 50 yards without
assistance by the end of this level.

YOUTH CLASSES ages 6-13
This progressive program, of 45-minute classes, covers all
the strokes, diving fundamentals and safety skills. To
encourage skill development each class is taught by a trained
instructor with a 1:8 ratio. Most swimmers start in Polliwog
but may be placed in other levels based on swimming ability.
Polliwog (beginner): No skills are required. Students are
acquainted with the pool environment, safety, flotation
devices, basic stroke and kicking skills. By the end of this
level, students will learn front paddle stroke, breaststroke
and elementary backstroke. More Info + Register!
Guppy (intermediate beginner): The Guppy level continues
to build on basic skills. Students learn to integrate the basic
stroke and kick movements into three strokes: front crawl
(freestyle), breaststroke, and backstroke. Students can swim
independently by the end of this level. More Info + Register!
Minnow (intermediate): Minnow swimmers must be able to
swim a rudimentary 25yd front and back crawl, jump in deep
end, and tread water for 30 seconds. Minnow class
continues to refine the basic stroke skills from previous
classes, learn sidestroke, advanced personal safety and
rescue skills. Students are able to swim any basic stroke for
25 meters by the end of this level. More Info + Register!
Flying Fish/Shark (advanced): The Flying Fish/ Shark level is
for swimmers who can swim two lengths of both front and
back stroke in good form. Flying Fish/ Shark will emphasize
endurance swimming and techniques that focus on the
competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and
front crawl (freestyle) with turns. More Info + Register!
Stroke Clinic: The Stroke Clinic level provides a transition
into our swim team. The class refines all four competitive
strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle).
The students will begin to have more structure training
sessions that will prepare them for the swim team. By the
end of this level students are able to swim 50 meters

Swim Lessons
TEEN/ADULT CLASSES ages 13+
Teen/Adult: No skills required. Trained
instructors will assist all swimmers and
develop a lesson plan that will meet the
swimmers needs based on current swimming

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
Private/Semi-Private Lessons
members only ages 3+: Cost includes
3-hour block of time (your choice of three
1-hour, six 30-minute or four 45-minute
lessons). 1-on-1 instruction, for a wide
range of swimming abilities. Please stop
by the Welcome Center to fill out a
private lesson request and an instructor
will contact you within 1 week. Payment
required at registration. Must be used
within 6 months of purchase.

Youth Rec Soccer League ages 2-15: Here at the Y, we not
only respect the game of soccer, we live it. Our goal is to
provide all participants a program that strives to develop
them to their fullest potential not only as a soccer player but
a person as well. We focus on offering a quality soccer
experience in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Spring: March • Fall: September
Youth Select Soccer League ages 7-18: Elevate your game
by playing YMCA Select Soccer. Select players must tryout to
be placed on a team, and they typically have more than one
practice a week and play weekend games/tournaments with
some travel involved. Questions? [email protected].
Tryouts for Fall Season: May & June
Summer Soccer ages 3-12: A fun program to keep players
active and working on skills during the summer. Program will
run five weeks on Saturday mornings at Samuel L. Jones Boys
& Girls Club. Players will practice the first half of each
session then play scrimmage games against each other the
remainder of the time. Cost includes jersey.
Summer: June
Futsal ages 3-17: A fun indoor soccer program to keep
players active during the winter months. Program will run six
weeks and will be games only, no practices. All teams are
coed. Cost includes a jersey.

T-BALL/BASEBALL

T-ball/Baseball age 3-10: Join us for non-competitive,
fundamental American past time. Stay active during the
summer months and have some fun with our YMCA t-ball and
baseball league. League takes place at local fields in the area,
just a few miles from our Y. Volunteer coaches always

Youth Basketball League ages 3-18: This
program is a great opportunity for you and
your child to learn and love the sport of
basketball. Originally started by the YMCA,
basketball is a fun team sport that develops
character and teamwork.

Youth Basketball coed ages 5-6 & 7-8
Boys Basketball ages 9-18
Volleyball ages 8-17 coed: Bump, Set, Spike!
We attribute this great sport to William
Morgan who invented the game in 1895 at
the YMCA. This league focuses on skill
development, teamwork and the will to
succeed, while building and fostering long

COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT
Happy Club ages 18+: A Y program, developed and
maintained by volunteers, that provides young adults with
developmental disabilities the opportunity to further develop
their social and community skills. For more info, contact

CPR/AED For The Community and Workplace ages 13+: A
combined CPR and AED program. This program is an excellent
choice for both the community and workplace setting, and is
based upon the 2010 International Consensus on (CPR) and
Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment

Our Y is a collection site for donations that benefit our
community, and this year we have many opportunities for you

bball, etc.) for ages 3-18.
• Happy Club Chaperone/Driver:
Twice a month on weekends we take
young adults 18 years and older with
disabilities to activities out in the
community (Braves game, bowling,
movies & dinner, etc.).
• Refugee Program: Assist with
instruction in soccer to children ages
7-16, or help provide snacks for
participants.
• Why it Matters: We need you! Help
us plan events for our annual campaign.
