Update on registered mail. We have been
informed by Canada Post that Registered mail inside
Canada and to most of the rest of the world, except
USA, is still reliable. In the USA the post office simply
drops registered mail in the regular mail stream. For

services. Affixed are ML13 - 10c CF and signed "4 A. Begg" + 3 copies of ML18 - 25c C.F. signed by "E W ROMANS".
At the bottom of the middle stamp you can just see the very tops of "L S".
This is very early use of these - the stamps only came into use on June 23, 1877.
ML13 is stamp #4 issued.
This is an absolute Showpiece in Spectacular condition.

These were treated like cash and would normally have been shredded once cashed. A rare revenue item.
Each has FX64 - 3c blue excise tax stamp on the back as required when cashed. They also received a
cancel from the bank at which they were cashed. 7 DIFFERENT including $10 x 2 different shades, $20 x 2
different shades, 1 x $50, $100 x 2 different colours. Three of them have - Canadian Bank Note Company
Limited - imprints. These are rarely seen.This is the largest group of all different I have handled

1915 WAR TAX WINE STRIPS FWT19-25 COMPLETE USED. A nice
1919 QUEBEC PROHIBITION. 1c to $1 + $10. The 1c, 10c bistre and 20c are used while the rest are either fresh set with a couple of nice cancels. Generally F/VF used with typical
unused no gum or mint. The 2c is *NH and the $10 is almost *NH. This is one of the most difficult sets to find in light vertical folds from usage - it is pretty well the only way you will find
nice condition. This nice group catlogs $1655 and can be had for just the value of the $10 stamp ... $1000

1883 & 1897 TOBACCO STAMPS
Without a doubt the most beautifully engraved stamps in the world. Magnificent engravings by the British American Banknote Co. (1883 issue) & the American
Banknote Co. 1897 issue. According to one Banknote co. engraver "it probably took up to 18 months for one design to be completed". Each is a Masterpiece.
Each value has a different design. Each in fresh pristine condition unless noted otherwise. An occasional bend or trivial fault may be found, after all these are well
over 100 years old. Genuinely used copies are very scarce, they were glued to wooden or other boxes and always have faults. Quantities are limited. Alternates
appreciated. 1st number is from the Christopher Ryan catalogue (you can download it for free from our website, 2nd Lee Brandom catalog numbers used. At
present the Ryan catalogue does not list Proofs, Specimens, etc. - Brandom lists these as CP, PP, etc. - this is a work in progress. Stamps
