“Sedimentation Control Project for Jazan Dam Reservoir” as
lead firm. The two companies carried out 34 projects together.
NESPAK started working with the M.H. Aitah Consulting
Engineers' Office in 1997 as local partner and both the
companies jointly completed almost 40 projects.
To date, NESPAK has secured 115 projects worth US$ 21 billion
out of which 22 projects are in operation. The ongoing projects
are being handled by the NESPAK Regional Office and 22 site
offices scattered all over the Kingdom. The total strength of

Authority, Saudi Arabia
The NESPAK-SAUDCONSULT joint
venture was hired for study and design to
supply blended water to Al-Majmah and
Al-Shaqrah storage tanks and to connect
them with the Water Distribution Network.
This project was aimed at providing
20,000 cu. m/day of water to Al-Majmah
and 300,000 cu. m/day to Al-Shaqrah.
This project study involved the review and
updating of 1982 Master Plan for
Madinah Al-Munawwarah City. The
review was necessitated due to the
expansion of the Holy City and the
Prophet's (Peace be upon him) Mosque.
The plan was prepared to meet water
requirements up to the year 2039.
The project involved the construction of
water storages, blending stations and
pipelines for these two fast growing cities
near Riyadh. Desalinated water was
proposed to be blended with the
groundwater, increasing the water supply
to the two cities.
Storage/balancing reservoirs, booster
pump stations and adequate pipe sizes
(up to 2000 mm dia) were proposed
after analysing the existing water
supply network.
Eastern Province Water Supply System Phase I & II
Project Status: Completed in 1995
Scope of Services: Project Planning, Detailed Design,
Tender Documents, Construction Supervision
Project Cost: US $ 209 million
Client: Saline Water Conservation Corporation, Saudi Arabia
This project comprised the construction
of a 53 km long 1524 mm dia steel
pipe and a pump station including all
civil, architectural, mechanical and

The pipeline originated from the Jubail
Desalination Plant located on the Coast of
Arabian Gulf and was aimed at supplying
278,000 cu. m/day product water to the
King Fahd International Airport and the
towns of Rahima, Safwa, Sayhat and
Qatif, all located in the Eastern Province
of Saudi Arabia. The product water was
supplied from the product water header of
the existing water storage tanks of the
Jubail Desalination Plant. Earlier,
blending stations of Rahima, Safwa,
Sayhat and Qatif received product water
from the Al-Khobar Desalination Plant
through two feeders.
The pumping plant was located within the
boundary of Jubail Desalination Plant and
was planned to contain eight pumping
units, four of which were installed under
this project.

The purpose of this project was to solve
drainage problems for the project area
located in the northern part of Najran
City. The project involved the laying of
31 km long RCC pipes ranging from
500 mm to 1200 mm dia in the
project area.
The 1,000 ha. study area, located in the
Qaseem Province, is a closed catchment. A
number of small hill torrents drained into
Qusayba Depression from the catchment
area, causing salinity which damaged the
crop land. The main purpose of the project
was to improve agriculture through the
provision of proper drainage and checking
of runoff into the Qusayba Depression. The
feasibility report proposed a scheme for
reducing the inflow into the Qusayba
Depression through the construction of
three water conservation structures, two
pump stations, 8.75 km long flood
channels and provision of 26.5 km long
sub-surface and 17 km long surface drains
for the removal of saline effluent..
The project also comprised the
construction of 375 RCC manholes, 590
RCC street catch basins, laying of 6.5 km
uPVC pipeline of 300 mm dia for the
interconnection of catch basins to
manholes and three RCC outfall
structures at Wadis.

Sedimentation Control Project for
Jazan Dam Reservoir
Project Status: Completed in 1987
Scope of Services: Feasibility Study, Detailed Design, Tender Documents
Project Cost: US$ 3 million
Client: Ministry of Agriculture & Water, Saudi Arabia
The 40m high Jazan Dam with a total
storage capacity of 71 mcm was
constructed in 1970 at the confluence of
five tributaries in the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia and Yemen Arab Republic. Out of
total catchment of 1233 sq km, about
58% is in Yemen. Over the time,
sediments had accumulated in the
reservoir, causing depletion of storage
capacity.
The studies involved a comprehensive
reservoir survey, soil classification of
catchment in the Kingdom, appraisal of
existing hydromet network and
recommendations for improvement &
evaluation of instruments embedded in
the body of dam, identification of
locations and survey for sediment trap
structures, watershed management,
dredging of deposited sediment and
raising of the dam.
The Jazan Dam Reservoir
The hydromet network was reviewed and
recommendations made for the
establishment of two more stations with
rain recording gauges, upgrading of
station at Aridah and the establishment
of two stream gauging stations in
Wadi Jazan and Wadi Mishrif.
