Healing Powers of Crystals

Crystals are beautiful gifts
from nature that come in an
array of shapes and colors.
In addition to being admired
for their splendor, crystals can
also be a valuable tool when
used for energy and healing
work. The earth forms a wide
range of crystals that can help to
change the energy in an area, open
the chakras, provide grounding
protection or alignment, or change
the physical energy around a
person. The shape, structure, and
color of a crystal can affect the
flow and direction of the energy as
well as the healing properties.
The most popular crystal
shapes include: spheres, single
terminated crystal points, doubly
terminated crystal points,
and laser wands. While
crystals come in a variety
of colors, clear quartz,
rose quartz, amethyst,
and tourmaline are
some of the most
commonly used
for those new to
crystal work.
There are
m a n y
resources available to guide your work with the metaphysical
properties of stones. However, trusting your intuition
is often the best answer. The same crystals may impact
and resonate very differently for you than they may for
someone else.
For those new to crystal healing, the sphere is often the best
shape to utilize simply because the orb allows the energy to
flow evenly and equally in every direction at once. Rounded
beads worn in a necklace or bracelet would distribute these
energies in such a way that the benefits would be felt in a
gentle and comforting way.
Selecting the right type of crystal might seem intimidating
at first. However, there are many books and websites that
can help guide you. Your intuition is most important, as that
will likely guide you to the best stone for each situation.
Remember that crystals vibrate energy. When placed in an
area, they will infuse their energy into that space. Think of
a tarred road sitting under a scorching sun. You can see heat
A single crystal point is a popular choice because of its
versatility and pinpoint accuracy in projecting a stream
of energy. When utilizing a single point for healing work,
placing the point outwards from the body will draw energy
away, while facing the point towards the body will bring
energy into the area.
Many of those in the crystal healing community also will
have a doubly terminated point crystal on hand (also known
as a DT), which has a point on both ends of the crystal.
These can be natural, or polished and shaped—as the energy
flow will remain the same. A doubly terminated crystal
channels energy in both directions at the same time. One
use would be to clear a blockage within the body so the
energies could flow freely. DT’s can also create a bridge of
energy between two areas. For instance, to put a DT at the
head and one at the feet with other stones in between would
create a current of energies between the two points.
Another crystal shape that is of great assistance in the crystal
healing field would be the laser wand. The laser wand is a
wider-based crystal that tapers to a very small and distinct
point. Think of a laser and how they send out a very direct
and exact beam of light. The laser wand sends out a very
precise and exacting ray of energy.

space with positive, healing energy.

Crystal Basics

In this introductory class, we will cover some
of the questions most frequently asked when
people begin to work with crystals: Why do
I feel drawn to certain stones? What is the
best way to utilize my crystals? Which will
work better—tumbled or natural? What are
the healing properties of crystals? Engage in

energies and learn to choose what you need

and sing sacred songs from the Bhakti Yoga

In this eight-part class, we will be examining
10 main body systems and the plant medicines
that support them. The first half of each threehour workshop will be an overview of the
basic anatomy and physiology of the system
and the second half will be spent discussing
specific plant medicines that have affinities
for these systems. This series is a great way to
learn about practical herbal medicine and its

Full Circle Mandalas
Heather Taylor
At the end of an age, moving into
another, we must collectively synthesize
that which is work reforming, the
universal essence to be born anew. This
series of mandalas is the first of a trinity
in this effort of synthesis, an act of
remembering. It is eclectic by its nature,
spanning eons of human culture and
evolution. As mandalas, which focus on
the different geometric forms and their
corresponding symbolism, these images
are symbolic. They use various numbers
and shapes, unique forms and patterns
from different places—different people,
within the context of the whole.
As a mandala aligns the microcosm with
the macrocosm, the particular to the
universal, so the creator is only the tool
of creation, the invisible hand.
Heather Taylor is an Evergreen alumni
and mother of 3 beautiful boys.
She lives in Olympia, Washington
surrounded by nature.
Look for Heather’s works on sale at

Mosaics
Jennifer Irizarry-Urosevic
“My Girls” is a series of mannequin
busts that Jennifer transforms into mosaic
goddesses. Each has a different name, each
has a different theme. Her first bust was
done along with a mosaic project she was
doing with her students in 2002. She began
with a box of broken white plates and a
female bust from a yard sale. As the project
when on (to her surprise), a goddess began
to emerge. Each bust takes several weeks
or months to complete and much of the
material comes from thrift store plates and
cups. “My Girls” and Jennifer’s mosaics
come from her heart and soul and are
absolutely a labor of love.
Jennifer was born in New York and
raised with her brother and two artistic
parents. She has been an artist all her
life, dabbling in various mediums.
She currently resides in Mossyrock,
Washington with her husband, three cats
and two dogs.
