BridgeMill Golf Academy
“Our
Goal is to Help You Enjoy Your Golf More”
Tips From The Pro
Improve Your Putting
Dr. Cary Middlecoff, who won 40 tour events including three majors, had
this to say about putting: “Any golfer can make himself a better putter if
he will approach the problem intelligently and work at it.”
Along with the right putter for the individual, there are four skills that are
required for good putting.
1. The Proper Read- “The art of judging slope and speed is not
entirely God-given. It is possible to a great degree to develop the
faculty. But the major part of any putting practice should be directed
to that end rather than to the development of a perfectly accurate
stroke.” - Bobby Jones
2. The Proper Aim- “Most golfers misalign because they do not see
what they think they see.” See It & Sink It - Dr Craig Farnsworth
3. Stroking Where you Aim- “There is no such thing as the perfect
stroke. Every great player’s stroke is different. They are consistent
though at rolling the ball where they are looking.” - David Orr (Putting
Coach to Justin Rose)
4. Control Speed- “My first concern in looking over a putt is the ball’s
speed.” Bobby Locke
The SAM PuttLab and the other tools we have at The Golf Academy can
help identify your strengths and weaknesses and assist you with intelligently improving your putting. Give me a call. You can be a better putter!
Best Wishes for a Great Summer!
SAM PuttLab
This analysis and training system
based on accurate ultrasound
measurements. It analyzes the 28
most important parameters of your
putting stroke and displays the
results in easy to understand
graphic reports. Discover your
individual strengths and weaknesses
for a better and more efficient
training.Within seconds the system
gives you an individual feedback on
your putting strokes. The analysis
reveals even the smallest details of
your movements and allows you to
develop improvements and training
strategies. SAM PuttLab utilizes
ultrasound sensory analysis and
therefore is far more precise than
any other similar system on the
market.

2015 Junior Academy Golf Program
BridgeMill’s Summer Junior Golf Camps were a lot of fun! We introduced several new juniors to this great game.
Many are continuing their golf by joining the Fall session of the Academy. If you would like more information on the
Junior Golf Academy, please email [email protected]. The Fall session begins the week of August 24th.
Thank you Molly McGrory of Re/Max Town and Country! She has sponsored the McGrory Cup for the last three
seasons. The McGrory Cup is a series of junior golf tournaments played at BridgeMill, Towne Lake Hills, Callahan’s and
Lake Arrowhead. The series features several different formats and the juniors win points based on placement. The
overall point winners for each age division will be announced at the awards dinner in December. It is going to be a
very close finish this year.
The BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy has several levels to fit the needs of our junior golfers. We have juniors that are
new to the game as well as juniors that play year round. Some travel the United States and play in international
events. We are proud to have juniors win tournaments in Atlanta Junior Golf, US Kids, Georgia State Golf Association,
American Junior Golf, and the Hurricane tours. Several of our former academy players have continued their golf
careers into college. We wish all of our junior golfers the best in their future endeavors on and off the golf course.
Our mission is to continue to grow the game! Follow us on FaceBook at BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy and on Twitter

LGA News
The temps are climbing, but the ladies golf group is as active as ever. Come out and join us! You will be
glad you did!
Thursday, June 18th was our Girls Night Out hosted by Jan Small. A fun, lively group of ladies came together
to laugh, visit, and just enjoy each other’s company. We dined on several types of quiche presented by Chef
Elliott and it was delicious, as usual. Becky Royer was the money winner and all the ladies left feeling they
spent a very enjoyable evening with friends.
Our next get together will be in August and it is the ever popular pool party at Arlene Campbell’s home. Evite
and details will be sent the first of August so watch for it and RSVP to attend this fun evening of good food,
friends and relaxation.
Saturday, July 4th, we joined forces with the Men’s Golf Association to host the annual Firecracker
Tournament. We had a shot gun start at 8:30am and, in spite of the constant rain for the first two hours, we
had a great time and finished right at 2:00pm when our buffet was ready. Chef Elliott prepared BBQ chicken,
hamburgers and brats cooked in sauerkraut along with potato salad and the famous Featherstones
handmade potato chips. After lunch the prizes were presented and the LGA was well represented with winners! Participants with the first place team were Teri Tlumak and Brenda Smith. The third place
participant for the LGA was Pat Bauer, closest to the pin for hole #8 was Molly Maher and the hole #12 winner
was Pam Yagoda. All of the winners received Pro Shop credit. Congratulations to all the ladies that participated and showed such good sportsmanship to power through the rainy cool morning.
We still have a lot of Summer left with our regularly scheduled play dates as well as a few tournaments to be
announced. See our website (www.bmaclga.com) or facebook page (https://facebook.com/bmaclga for the
most up to date information about our club as well as photos from past events.

Recycling
Instead of launching your used or
bad tennis balls into the woods
please drop them off at the Pro
Shop for recycling. Old tennis balls
have a multitude of uses after their
tennis life has expired. Teachers,

calling for old tennis balls. Plus they
do not disintegrate into the ground,

Excel Junior Tennis Academy at BridgeMill
Our Junior Program at BridgeMill is designed to meet the needs of all our
junior players from 5 years of age and up; from recreational to advanced
tournament players. The goal of our program is to instill in our youth a love
for the game of tennis. We strive to develop self-motivated young people
who want to practice and then practice some more. We encourage and
foster a healthy, active lifestyle that they can carry with them throughout their
lives. All our teaching professionals have a passion for the game of tennis
and they are here to ignite this passion in your child!
We have a complete program that is divided into different categories
based on ability and age. The different categories are listed below. All
programs focus on proper stroke development, footwork, fitness,
strategy and mental toughness in an age and level appropriate manner.
Contact Pat Perry at [email protected] specific information on the
program.
Fall Excel Future Stars, 5 – 12 years of age
Juniors with little or no tennis experience will learn the fundamentals of
tennis including basic stroke technique using age appropriate balls and
equipment to help them succeed quickly. Groups are separated by age
and are held during after school hours. The class schedule is available
in the Tennis Pro Shop.
Fall Excel Academy, 8 – 17 years of age
These groups are for juniors with some experience all the way up to
advanced players. Players are divided by ability level and age within
each category. Players should have a desire to reach the next level of
their game. All groups include high intensity tennis drills focusing on
proper strokes, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness.

Spinach Is One of the Most Nutritious Foods Available
Low in calories and high in vitamins, spinach is one of the most
nutrient-dense foods in existence. One cup of the leafy green vegetable
contains far more than your daily requirements of vitamin K and vitamin A,
almost all the manganese and folate your body needs and nearly 40 percent
of your magnesium requirement. It is a very good source of more than 20
different measurable nutrients, including dietary fiber, calcium and protein. 1
cup has only 40 calories, so spinach is an excellent choice for nutrition without
high calories.
Cancer-Fighting Antioxidants Abound in Fresh Spinach
Spinach contains more than a dozen individual flavonoid compounds which
work together as cancer-fighting antioxidants. These elements neutralize free
radicals in the body and thus help to prevent cancer. In fact, one study of
New England women showed less breast cancer cases among those who ate
spinach on a regular basis. Spinach extracts have reduced skin cancer in lab
animals and show promise at slowing stomach cancer as well.
Eating Spinach Combats Ovarian, Prostate Cancers
The Journal of Nutrition reports that spinach contains a carotenoid that makes
prostate cancers destroy themselves. This same carotenoid, after being
changed by the intestines, prevents prostrate cancer from reproducing itself.
Spinach also contains kaempferol, a strong antioxidant that prevents the
formation of cancerous cells. Women who have a high intake of this flavonoid
show a reduced risk of ovarian cancer, likely because of kaempferol's ability to
reduce cancer cells proliferation. Kaempferol is also found in non-herbal tea,
onions, apples, citrus, grapes, red wine, curly kale, St. John's wort, leeks,
broccoli and blueberries.
Spinach Improves Brain Function, Protects Against Aging
This dark green leaf will protect your brain function from premature aging and
slow old age's typical negative effects on your mental capabilities. Spinach
accomplishes this by preventing the harmful effects of oxidation on your
brain. Those who eat vegetables in quantity, especially those of the leafy
green variety, experience a decrease in brain function loss. However, iceberg
lettuce doesn't cut it. A good rule of thumb: the darker the leaf, the better.
Spinach is great both raw and cooked. Give one of these ideas a try:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Blend a couple of handfuls of spinach into your favorite smoothie.
Sautee spinach in olive oil with pine nuts and onion.
Add spinach to your favorite egg omelet.
Spinach salad with dried cranberries (or any fruit of your choice),
pecans and red onion.
5. Spinach and artichoke dip

Service League
This is an open invitation to all past members of the BSSL. We are celebrating our 15th year and asking past members
to clear their calendars for August 20th at 7:00pm We would love to celebrate our Welcome Back meeting with you.
Some of the current members don’t know the history of our organization and would love to hear your stories. Please
leave a message for Nicole Shippy at [email protected] if you will be attending. We hope you can join us.
The Barbara Nugent Summer Lunch Program was a huge success again this Summer. Special thanks to Susan Gaines,
Linda Emore and Judy West for organizing and purchasing all of the items needed to make 2500 delicious lunches for
children of Cherokee County. Lunches were delivered Monday to Friday in 8 Georgia Counties serving over 8000
children daily. This Summer we helped provide over 250,000 lunches to children in Georgia. Thank you members of
BSSL and your children for helping prepare sandwiches and assembling the lunch bags for distribution.
Our other project for the summer was providing Hygiene Bags for parents of children that received free backpacks at
Give A Kid A Chance in July. In addition these children received free haircuts, dental checkups, eye exams, clothing,
stuffed animals and free books. Thanks so much Lynne Weimer and Caroline Zipkin for leading this project for the
second year. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of the women and children who showed up to pack and transport
the Hygiene Bags. We couldn’t have worked so efficiently without your help.
The next scheduled meeting of the BSSL will be on August 20th, 7:00pm at the Terrace. Don’t forget to bring your
SCAT items to the meeting. This month we are collecting prepackaged snacks for Elementary children. No peanuts
please.

BridgeMill Community Association
If you are already thinking about the Fall yard sale, it is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, 8:00am - 2:00pm.
Mark your calendars!
Your neighbors don’t care what the inside of your home looks like, however we all are concerned when the
exterior of a home goes into disrepair and the yard is being neglected. Siding should be repainted about every 4-5
years (depending on the prior paint job and quality of paint used). Paint acts as a sealant to protect your home
and most painters will caulk your home prior to repainting. It’s a good idea to replace any delaminated or rotted
wood when the home is being repainted.
Let’s talk lawn maintenance……………the yard needs to be edged as well as cut and don’t forget about bushes and
shrubs. A neatly manicured yard adds curb appeal and keeps BridgeMill looking clean and attractive. Fresh pine
straw and mulch in the planting beds also makes a yard look attractive. It doesn’t matter if your lot is small or
large; all property owners need to be maintaining the yard and house.
Congratulations to the July Yard Of the Month Winners!
