These are exciting days at the Chamber. Our attendance to events is up just over
9% and we continue to add new members. In May, we had our annual Business
Expo with record attendance and we were at capacity selling all the space
possible for exhibitors. Jefferson Country club did a fantastic job of hosting this
event. The board has worked hard to make sure we have some wonderful summer
events and we are finishing up details for the fall.
Our annual golf outing is coming up quickly at Jefferson Country Club. We have businesses stepping
up to sponsor holes, donate items for the auction and make sure foursomes are registered. You do not
want to miss this event! If you don’t golf, come to the evening portion for dinner, fun, & networking.
We have been working on technology issues at the chamber from social media, data base and
implementation of Chamber Master. We are already seeing results with the changes the marketing
and technology committee have executed. We want to make it easier for you. We will make sure you
are updated as progress is made.
Empowering Women has a great event coming up. Mount Carmel Health System who is so generous
to the Chamber, hosts and assist in making this event happen. Ann Schiele, who steps down this
summer after 24 years as president of Mount Carmel College of Nursing will be our speaker. Register
early by going to the Chamber website at GahannaAreaChamber.com/events.
I hope your business is having a great year. As I interact with so many of you and as a CPA, I hear
and see great things happening. Fortunately, Ohio is a state that is doing really well with new
business, decreasing unemployment and market place opportunities. It is my hope that you
believe your local Chamber is helping you in your success and assisting you with challenges.
Please make sure you let me know what I can do to assist you from one business owner to
another.
It is a true honor to serve as your Board Chairwomen. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Betty Collins, CPA

T
he Empowering Women breakfast held April 24th featured guest speaker Margaret
R. Carmany, Esq, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist ElderCare Services who shared
a powerful presentation, Leadership in Crisis. “When leading in times of crisis there
will be people who won’t be on your side, Peg exclaimed. Speak the truth and practice
being positive every day. People count on you so find something good to talk about.
And above all be honest.”
Special thanks to Mount Carmel Health System, presenting sponsor, along with
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and MediGold.
Join us at the next meeting on July 24 with special guest speaker Ann Schiele,
president of Mount Carmel College of Nursing, who steps down this summer after
24 years of service.
Ann Schiele, PhD, RN, is president and dean of Mount Carmel College of Nursing,
which offers both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and has one of
the largest baccalaureate nursing programs in the United States. Dr. Schiele, who
was the driving force in transitioning Mount Carmel from a Diploma program to
a fully accredited, degree granting College in 1990, has been recognized as one
of central Ohio’s leading women—receiving the YWCA Women of Achievement
Award for her outstanding accomplishments in the field of higher education
and nursing. Under her leadership, the College has experienced tremendous
growth both in programs and enrollment. Dr. Schiele is currently the longest
sitting president of any college or university in Ohio.

or the past 22 years Columbus Business
First has chosen a select group to join
their top Forty Business People under
the age of 40. The Chamber is thrilled to
announce one of our members was chosen
for the 2014 class with Jason Codrea. Jason
joined the Chamber 4 years ago when he
became an independent financial advisor
through LPL Financial and opened up
Codrea Financial Services. Jason is active within the Gahanna
Chamber as well as many other local and worldwide volunteer
works. Many of Jason’s works has come from the groups of
clients he has focused his financial planning practice to help
which are dentists and teachers. The Dental Network Group is
a group that Jason helped co-found to better serve the dental
community with various business professionals. Teaching
people about money has come easy for Jason since his parents,
wife, and many other family members are teachers. On behalf
of GACC, congratulations!

Celebrate.
Remember.
Fight Back.
R
elay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone
in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the
lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones
lost, and fight back against the disease.
The Objective of Relay For Life is to raise money for Research,
Education, Advocacy, and Patient Services.
Relay For Life is an overnight event with teams formed
from families, co-workers, schools, churches and more. The
overnight walk is meant to reflect a cancer patient’s journey
through the disease, ending with a new sense of hope as the
sun rises in the morning. It starts with the survivor lap and
reception to celebrate life. At dusk is the Luminaria Ceremony.
Hundreds of luminaria are placed around the track inscribed
with names of loved ones lost to cancer or still fighting the
battle.
At least one member from each team walks around the track
all relay long. Walking around the track is meant to symbolize
that there is no finish line until we find a cure for cancer.
Activities keep spirits high all night long. Activities conclude
with a Fight Back ceremony. Please come join the fun, food,
entertainment and an overnight under the stars.
This is one night you will never forget.
To purchase a luminaria, make a donation, or for more
