That is exactly what many of you did
with our end of year appeal and
employee bonus program!
Many of you have increased your giving
this year which is tremendous and greatly appreciated. Some of you have also
become Beverly Farm Ambassadors to
assist with moving our mission forward.
You all are those great people who have
committed to making the quality of life
in our community better. Fundraising is
the lifeline for us and numerous other
nonprofits. You know in the state of
Illinois the funding for Developmental/
Intellectual disabilities is especially low,
critical and disappointing. This causes a
fundraising crisis.
You have heard about the $5000 gap in
Medicaid coverage from what Beverly
Farm spends per person. You have also
heard me say that gap is growing larger.
This is the reason we need everyone to
“get on board” and commit to giving,
increase your giving and become a
Beverly Farm Ambassador.
This commitment is the foundation to
increasing contributions so that the extra
programs and services can continue. I
ask you to think about what you view as
our most important service.
I will give you a few examples:
• On site physician services that greatly
improve the medical coverage and care for
all.
• On staff Behavior Specialists that assist
with the many behavioral challenges that
impact an individual’s ability to recognize
and improve their social skills.
• On staff Social Workers to act as liaison
and provide a point of contact for information.
• An onsite Recreational Program that
provides programs, activities and opportunities that enrich lives daily.
• Security services that patrol the grounds
and helps to ensure a safe community.
• Coffee shop for relaxing and socializing.
• Increased staff numbers in the homes to
assist with care and personal assistance for
activities and behavioral challenges.
It is very difficult to imagine any of the
above listed services not being part of
daily living in our Beverly Farm Community. We need the commitment from
everyone.
Thank you for your consideration.
2
Meet our new Chairman, Patti Downey
How did your relationship with
Beverly Farm begin?
I have been involved with Beverly
Farm since my sister came to live
here in December 2006. I attended my first board meeting that
spring, and in the fall, I arrived
a day earlier so I could attend
the committee meetings. Soon, I
became involved in several of the
committees, and my involvement
gradually increased over time.
What will you bring to your
role?
The first thing I believe I bring
to my role is a great appreciation
for wonderful place we have in
Beverly Farm Foundation. When
searching for new placement
for my sister, my family looked
at many facilities to find the
best place where she could be
successful. We came to Beverly
Farm because of the programs
and activities offered, and we stay
because of how much my sister
loves it here. From this appreciation stems a desire to keep
Beverly Farm a quality facility for
many years to come.
Also, I believe I bring a background
that will help me to understand and
work to resolve the issues at Beverly
Farm. I have a BSBA-Finance from
University of Missouri-Columbia and
a MBA from St. Louis University. I
worked for McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now Boeing) in the St. Louis
area before moving to the Chicago
area where I worked for Motorola until deciding to stay home full time with
my daughters. I am not afraid to get
into the details of issues, to work with
the board and staff to find solutions, or
to help out personally where needed.
Finally, as guardian responsible for
my sister, I think I bring an insight
into the struggles of families who have
loved ones living at Beverly Farm. I
understand the importance of finding the best facility, the difficulty of
that initial transition, the challenge of
living some distance away, the frustration if things aren’t always perfect,
and the sacrifice to financially support
Beverly Farm. I hope this insight will
help ensure a balance between the
needs of families and the needs of
Beverly Farm.
What do you see as the goals of the
Board?
The biggest challenge I see for Beverly
Farm at this time is financial. As a
group, we need to figure out the best
way to support the level of services
that we provide to the people who live
here. As I’m sure many people are
aware, Beverly Farm provides a higher
level of service to residents than that
which is required (or reimbursed).
This is a good thing for our loved ones,
but it does come at a cost. In order
to continue this high level of service,
we must cover the additional costs
through donations and fundraisers.
As such, a big goal as chair is to figure
out a way to consistently cover not
only these costs but to raise enough
funds to be able to look toward the
future. Luckily, I have a great board of
directors who I believe are willing to
to work actively with management to
ensure a strong financial position.
You have been a big supporter of
third party fundraising for Beverly
Farm, any tips for someone interested in hosting a third party fundraising event of his own?
My tip for anyone thinking of hosting
a fundraiser is to just jump in and
do it. It is not as scary as some may
think. A fundraiser can be based
around many interests - my family has
wrapped presents in the mall, made
greeting cards for residents, had BBQs,
hosted a softball tournament, organized a motorcycle poker run, and has
run marathons and relay races. Not
only have we had fun while raising
funds, but we have let many people
know about Beverly Farm Foundation
and why we love it.
How do you see families becoming
more involved with Beverly Farm?
What role do you see them playing
and how can they help to better
Beverly Farm?
Families play an important role in the
success of Beverly Farm. In addition
to the role they have with their loved
ones living here, families are instrumental in educating others about Beverly Farm. When families tell others
about the great facilities and programs
here, as well as the issues facing Beverly Farm, they are not only helping
people see the importance of contributions, but they are placing seeds for
possible future admissions.
(cont’d on p. 4)

Welcome, 2015!
Thank you to each of you, whether family or friend, for your gifts
to Beverly Farm during the last
months, weeks and days of 2014!
We are most grateful to you for your
commitment to help to enrich the
lives of the nearly 400 people who
call Beverly Farm their home.
Our 2nd quarter giving for fiscal
year 2014-15 surpassed the $1
million mark! Thank you!
To meet the costs of the programs and
services so important to you and your
loved one (for which we are not
reimbursed), we need to raise that
each quarter of the fiscal year.
We know we can count on your continuing, generous support. We are glad
to help you learn more about our giving options and help you to navigate
the possibilities.
Thank you.
If you are a family member who does
not give to Beverly Farm throughout the year, why don’t you? Family
members especially know how Beverly
Farm supports and challenges their
loved one to live their best life. We
offer a variety of giving options. Have
you considered which might work
best for you? Do you have questions
about these options that we can help
to clarify?
This past fall we mailed over 300
letters to family members who have
yet to give to Beverly Farm, inviting
them to do so.
Seventeen of the over 300 people
gave a first time gift after receiving
our invitation. Thank you so much
for your developing commitment to
Beverly Farm. Thank you for helping
to make Beverly Farm the best place
for loved ones who live with intellectual or developmental disabilities to
call their home.
Well over 250 family members did
not respond to our giving invitation.
Many other family members give one
or two gifts over many years.
Perhaps some feel reimbursements
cover all costs. They do not.
Perhaps some feel if another family
member gives then that’s enough. It
is not. Even if a family member is able
to cover the now over $5,000 per year
cost of care gap, it is important for all
family members to support Beverly
Farm in a variety of ways. As with
other like organizations, our history
is filled with family members’ passing
leaving no sibling, other family member or friends able or willing to continue to help defray costs.
Perhaps some family members don’t
give it a second thought. They know
their loved one will be taken care,
will enjoy each day with activities
and opportunities, will receive the
best medical and dental care, and
will be challenged and supported to
live their best life.
That is correct.
Yet that is why giving as much as
each of us can is so important. We
need the continuing generous support
of our families. We count on your
gifts to enhance the lives of each of
the people who live here, but we also
want to tell our new and old friends
about your generous support when we
approach them for sponsorships and
to help us with fundraising efforts.
Beverly Farm is not a needy organization begging for money. Beverly
Farm is an over 100 year-old success
story. We know how to help the people who live here live their best lives.
But we are who we are because over
the years so many caring people gave
and did what they could do to help
to build Beverly Farm into what it is
today.
Now it is your turn.
Thank you to each of you, family
members and friends, for your gifts
and your support of Beverly Farm,
now and throughout 2015.

CILA update
Beverly Farm’s first CILA, Community
Integrated Living Arrangement, is ready for
move in as soon as we receive an award letter
that indicates we have received approved
funding.
The CILA is located up the road from Beverly
Farm in the Rockgate subdivision, Alton, IL.
Three women who live at Beverly Farm and one
woman from the community will reside there.
Debbie Reed is CILA Operations Director.
(continued...) Meet our new
Chairman, Patti Downey
There are many ways to get involved at Beverly Farm.
We hope people will attend the family weekends where
they can attend meetings of the business committees,
board of directors, parent groups and the foundation.
In addition, we hope people will participate in fundraisers hosted by Beverly Farm or consider hosting a
fundraiser in their area.
As far as how families can help to better Beverly Farm,
I think it starts with families having an awareness of
what it takes for Beverly Farm to be the place we love,
and then seriously considering how best they can help.
We hope people are asking themselves some of the
following:
“Do I have talents I can share? Can I add value to any
of the committees? Can I donate time or services to
BFF? Can I increase my level of giving? Can I get
company matching on the donations I make? Can
I get other family members to give regularly? Can I
host a fundraiser? Can I introduce BFF to businesses
or contacts that may be beneficial? Have I considered
BFF in my estate planning?”
Although how to “best help” will be different for
everyone, help from all is much needed and much
appreciated!
One more thought –
Beverly Farm Foundation has truly been a blessing for
my sister and my family. When she came in December 2006, I could not have imagined her being as
successful and happy as she is living here. I think that
is why I am passionate about doing what I can to help
keep Beverly Farm the great place it is, as well as help
it to continue to improve. My guess is that many other
families feel the same. I am excited for the opportunity to work with everyone to ensure Beverly Farm is the
place we and our residents love.

Brick by Brick is a perfect
way to welcome spring!
Beverly Farm’s Alton Area Golf
Tournament turns 25!
Ah, springtime!
How many golfers have played in the tournament over
the years?
How many friends and families spent the day with us?
What were the most winning teams?
What about those booths and games?
Who were our sponsors?
Do you have any stories to share (you may remain
anonymous)?
Flowers, budding bushes and trees, warmer weather,
the bikes are out, the softball teams are practicing...
and it’s time for our bi-annual laying of commemorative bricks at Beverly Farm.
Families and friends buy a Beverly Farm brick to memorialize, honor or commemorate a person or occasion. Your personalized message will leave a lasting
imprint on the minds and memories of visitors to
the Pavilion’s walk way.
25th Annual Alton Area Golf Tournament
Your gift of $500, which can be paid when you order
for springtime placement, or over time for future
placement, offsets the costs of our activity programs.
The time for our spring laying of the Bricks is
almost here! Bricks will be installed before the
Spring Family Weekend, April 24th-26th. Now is
the time to place your order! To have your brick
installed by Spring Family Weekend, forms must be
received by March 27th.
To purchase a commemorative Brick, please contact
us at [email protected] or (618) 466-0367, ext.
649, or send in the Brick form from the giving page of
www.beverlyfarm.org.
Answers to these questions and so many more may
be shared at Beverly Farm’s 25th Alton Area Golf
Tournament, to be held Friday, June 5, 2015, at
Rolling Hills Golf Course.
More specific information will be available in the coming weeks, but for now……
We need good people to lead this year’s anniversary
event! Have just a little time? That will work. Willing
to join the event committee? You’re on!
Please let us know if you will join us in presenting the
time-honored and lots of fun, Beverly Farm’s 25th Alton Area Golf Tournament! Call the Resource Development office at (618) 466-0367, ext. 627 or ext. 649.

Marquette studant gives back to
community and Beverly Farm
Over 150 businesses, friends and families
supported Beverly Farm’s Giving Tree
this season!
Beverly Farm would like to shine a light on Shane
Nichols, a Junior at Marquette Catholic High School
in Alton, IL who has been volunteering in the
Development Office since October.
Shane came to us to fulfill 20 hours of community
service through his school. Working in the Development Office, Shane has helped with the packaging
of marketing materials, reporting and various outreach projects. While Shane only needed 20 hours
of service, he informed us that his personal goal is
to complete 100 hours before the end of his school
year. As of December 31, 2014, Shane has completed
47 hours and continues to be a reliable, invaluable
addition to the volunteer team.

Coast to Coast Summertime BASH
When asked to share his thoughts about his time
spent volunteering at Beverly Farm, Shane says he
enjoys the work and finds it challenging and
interesting. Besides working in the Development
Office, Shane helped to wrap gifts for the Giving Tree
which he says has been his favorite part of volunteering so far. Shane says he is happy to be able to give
back to his community and do something that
benefits the people who live at Beverly Farm.

Giving Tree
Beverly Farm hearts were overflowing with gratitude while
the mail room was overflowing with gifts thanks to the over
150 businesses, individuals and families who helped make
this one of Beverly Farm’s most successful Giving Trees!
Our team of elves busily sorted and wrapped presents to
make sure that each person who lives at Beverly Farm had a
very happy holiday.

Toys for Tots
Beverly Farm’s Venture Scouts donated their time to
Toys for Tots on December 20th, helping to keep bins
filled with bags of toys, and presenting gifts to families.
Activities Manager Krista Kell said, “It was a great day!
They treated our scouts like celebrities and made sure
that they knew what a great job they were doing and
what a difference they were making. Everyone left with
a big smile and a joyful heart!” Sarah C. was also in
attendance pulling double duty as a Venture Scout and
a Butterfly Dreams Pageant representative helping to
present bikes to families identified by Toys for Tots.

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
Beverly Farm representatives got into the holiday spirit by
volunteering as Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army’s Red
Kettle Campaign at the Godfrey Wal-Mart on Wednesday,
December 17. The Beverly Farm volunteers enjoyed interacting with the local community and doing their part to help
raise money to provide food, toys and clothing to the over 6
million recipients of the Red Kettle Campaign.
