Five Chamber Directors Thanked for Board Service
In December the Chamber holds its election
of members to the 2008 Board of Directors.
The turnover of positions each year insures
both new perspectives and continuity for
our 21-member Board. This month, 5 current members of the Board will complete
their terms: Craig Della Penna, Tom Lippie,
Robert Ostberg, Roisin Quinn, and Joe
Traczynski. Here’s a short list of highlights
to acknowledge their service and accomplishments.
Robert Ostberg, CLU, ChFC: Rob is the
owner of Ostberg and Associates, a financial
services company based in Northampton.
Rob has a long history of involvement with
the Chamber including serving as Treasurer
from 1997 to 1999. During this tenure on
the Board of Directors, he has continued to
serve on the Finance Committee as well as
serving as Vice President of the Board in
2004 and President in 2005. Rob is also a
Chamber Partner.
Craig Della Penna: Craig and his wife
Kathy own the Sugar Maple Trailside Inn, a
bed & breakfast in Florence. His knowledge
of hospitality and Tourism made him a great
asset to the Chamber’s Tourism Committee.
Craig is also a realtor with The Murphy’s
Realtors specializing in antique houses and
houses near to existing or future rail trails.
Roisin Quinn: Roisin is a realtor for
Goggins Real Estate. She served as President
of the Chamber’s Generator Committee in
2007 as well as on the Auction Planning
Committee. Roisin is also a member of the
newly formed Northampton Area Young
Professionals.
Tom Lippie: As the owner of Client First
Associates, Tom brought great experience in
strategic planning and organizational development to the Chamber’s Board. During his
tenure on the Board, he also served as the
Chair for the Chamber’s Education
Committee.
Joe Traczynski: Joe is the president of the
Commercial Loan Department for Florence
Savings Bank and is completing his sixth
year of Chamber Board service. During that
time, he has served as chair of the Annual
Membership Drive and as a member of the
Economic Development Committee.
Florence Savings Bank is also a Chamber
Partner.

The Chamber could not complete the

many volunteers who donate their time to
calling prospects, attending the Open

the experience that the volunteers have
had with the Chamber. We would like to
thank all of the volunteers who helped
with the membership drive this year.
✷ Holiday Sparkle ✷
Downtown Northampton is sparkling for the holidays with help from our member
businesses. Thanks to their generous donations, we were able to hang holiday banners throughout Downtown and light the Evergreen in Pulaski Park. Festive window displays from downtown shops and restaurants add to the spirit of the season.
If you haven’t yet donated, there’s still time. See the red insert in this newsletter.

SmithDay Premiers in Downtown Northampton
Downtown Northampton businesses
offered special hospitality to Smith
College students for the first-ever
SmithDay on Saturday, December 8th.
Students enjoyed an array of discounts
and treats, including goody bags, gift
cards, cider and cookies. The event was
organized by the Chamber in conjunction
with the Smith College Student
Government Association, and coincided
with Smith’s Winter Weekend festival.
The students were very appreciative of
the opportunity to explore new spots in
Downtown, which they often don’t get to
do because they are busy studying. We
hope to encourage more interaction
between the students and our Downtown
businesses in the future. Many thanks to
the generous business owners who participated!
