Staten Island Parent’s Bereavement Group
Responding to the borough wide crisis of deaths associated with
drug use, The Church of Saint Clare’s Parish Counseling Program
and the South Shore YMCA Counseling Center will co-sponsor a
Bereavement Group to assist parents who have lost their child to
the use of drugs.
Ultreya
Ultreyas are held the third Thursday of each month in the
School Building at 7:30 p.m. Ultreya is open to anyone who

FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT
Holy Child Baseball/Softball 2016 Registration
WORKSHOP II
Holy Child will again be fielding CYO Baseball and Softball teams
starting in the Spring of 2016. Registrations will be open to children from 3rd Grade through 8th Grade. The CYO Baseball/
Softball season typically starts playing games in early April and
concludes the season by mid/late June. Every team makes the
playoffs. Join the team and have some fun with us this Spring!
The second Confirmation Workshop is scheduled for Monday February 22, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Religion Building.
The Confirmation payment of $200 (check or money order
only) will be collected at this time. The fee covers the retreat, transportation to and from the retreat, breakfast and
lunch on that day, the robes and Mass booklet for Confirmation and the re-registration fee.
The Holy Child Baseball Program will be fielding teams in three
different divisions and looking for players for the following:
 3rd and 4th Grade team (Little League rules)
 5th and 6th Grade team (50/70 Field Dimensions)
 7th and 8th Grade team (60/90 Field Dimensions)
The workshop is one of two mandated by the Archdiocese
of New York.

The meeting opened at 7:30 p.m. with a prayer offered by Father Travers.
FATHER TRAVERS REPORTED that James Quadrino is in the last months of his preparation for the diaconate. On
Wednesday, February 17th, Colleen Kelly-Rayner will offer an evening of Lenten reflection entitled, “Finding Serenity in a
Nutty World.” An invitation was sent to Cardinal Dolan to attend our anniversary celebration on May 14 th which is Pentecost Sunday. An alternate mass on Saturday, March 5 th at 5:00 pm will be attended by the Cardinal, with a reception to
follow in the Forum. On May 14th there will be a Dinner-Dance at the Old Bermuda Inn from 7:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. On
May 15th there will be a Celebration Mass at 12:30 pm with a luncheon to follow in the Forum. All former priests will be
invited. It will be a time for socializing and reminiscing. In June, we will celebrate James Quadrino’s Ordination to the
diaconate. My Family Album is out of business. This issue is being looked into, families who may have ordered pictures
and have not received them are being sought out and informed; more details to follow as soon as possible. Statland is in
the process of improving security in the school and gym in order to ensure the safety of all who use those buildings. This
will include additional cameras in the parking lot and the gym.

Committee Reports:
ADORATION: All hours are covered. Adorers need to be diligent about security. There will be a One Call messaging system instituted in order to inform adorers of inclement weather, etc.
RELIGION: There is a need for High School student volunteers for assisting in classes.
USHERS: Preparations are beginning for Holy Week, Easter and Communion. There is always a need for new ushers.
FAMILY LIFE/RESPECT LIFE: Our representatives attended the SI Vicariate meeting for an update on public policy. There will be bulletin announcements pertaining to this. On January 22 nd, to mark the Anniversary of Roe vs.
Wade there will be a March in Washington D.C.; two buses will be going, one from St. Charles and one from Sacred
Heart. There will be a Holy Hour for Life on Sunday January 24 th; from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Spiritual Adoption will
take place on February 6th & 7th. There will be a Marriage Night at the Movies in April. An Election Prayer Campaign to pray for the upcoming election, prayer cards will be distributed.
YOUTH GROUP: There are many new recruits. Eleven seniors left the group, 21 new members, for a total of 35.
Youth group members from Holy Child and Our Lady Help of Christians celebrated the Feast of the Three Kings at the
soup kitchen at Assumption Church on Jan. 3rd. Presents were distributed, Three Kings bread was offered, and band
members played. The group will attend a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at a nursing home on March 12 th, the band
will also play. A Christmas party was well attended. The theme for this year is Apostolic, praying for the persecuted
in the faith. Orange rosary beads were distributed on Sunday, January 24 th at 5:30 p.m. mass [rescheduled to
Sunday, 28 February 5:30 pm]. Stations of the Cross will be presented during Holy week. There will be a Palm
Cross sale the week before Palm Sunday. On Saturday, January 16 th, the group went to Gateway beach to help
with preservation of the shore line by planting beach grass.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: The group will review Christmas donations. They are considering a drive for school supplies to be given to poorer parishes in need for this September.
SCOUTS: The Boy scouts held their Eagle Scout ceremony on January 3 rd, Christopher Gunn achieved the Eagle
Scout Award. There are 2-3 scouts who are working toward the award at this time. A Trash to Treasure Sale will
take place in April.
SPORTS: The basketball season is halfway complete.

PRE-SCHOOL: There is record enrollment this year. Another toddling class has been opened. At this time there
are 84 two year olds, 64 four year olds and 160 three year olds. Registration will begin on February 7 th from 10:00
a.m.-11:00 a.m. A request was made that when bus trips are scheduled for other ministries, parking for members
going on trip should be in front of Forum.
CHARISMATIC PRAYER: No meetings as of yet. Healing masses and prayers will continue as usual.
PRAYERFUL MANTLE: In May, baby blankets will be sent to the Seaman’s Society. There were 210 scarves sent
to St. Christopher’s. Lap blankets were distributed to Wounded Warriors. Three gift baskets were donated for Family
Fun Day. A possible project for the 15th Anniversary of 9/11 is being considered.
MUSIC: The sale of the Bell Choir CDs was very successful. The organ recital was well attended. The Youth
Choir, and Ensemble performed at Midnight Mass and the Bell Choir had 2 performances at The Old Bermuda Inn
and one at Historic Richmond Town.
BEYOND RENEW: The group finished studying the Parables of Jesus. They will be starting “Food from Heaven”.
They attended “On Your Feet”, and the Christmas Show in PA. They will attend the Sight and Sound production of
the Bible Story of Samson. The group will also return to the Sands as a fundraiser.
Father Travers asked the members of the council if they would be interested in participating in the washing of the feet
ceremony on Holy Thursday.
PARISH MANAGER: When parish groups are preparing a calendar, website or bulletin announcement they must be
mindful of the timing, 2-3 weeks are necessary in order to get the information processed. New security is in place, if a
group is using the school or gym they must inform the office.
