Headmaster’s Pen
God’s desire for a family is that it
reproduces and multiplies. Genesis
1:27-28 says, “So God created man
in his own image, in the image of God
created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them,
and God said unto them, Be fruitful,
and multiply, and replenish the earth,
and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the
fowl of the air, and over every living
thing that moves upon the earth.”
I believe that God desires that husbands and wives have children and
that they establish families. In God’s
plan for the family He has established
the role of the father, the mother and
the children.
Psalm 127:3 tells us that, “Children
are a heritage of the Lord, and the
fruit of the womb is His reward.”
Other than the gift of eternal life, the
entrance of children into a home is
the most blessed event a young family can experience. Every parent is at
a different stage with their children.
Some are just beginning their family, while others are watching their
nest empty out or their grandchildren
arrive, as their own children become
adults. Whatever your family circumstances, these gifts from God are
a treasured trust and deserve your
best in guiding them to a relationship with the Heavenly Father. I also
believe that we will be held accountable if we do not give our children
and our grandchildren our best
effort. Jesus said in Luke 17:2, “It
would be better to be thrown into the
ocean with a millstone around our
neck than to lead one of our children
to sin.” The Bible offers some very
explicit advice to parents and all
those who influence young children.
According to His Word, He
intends for us to take care
of children until they are
old enough to be directly
responsible to Him.
From the desk of
Once children reach school
age they begin to spend more
time at school than with their
parents during the week day,
making our responsibility
here at school to reinforce
the teaching of parents such
a vital part of a well-rounded
child’s life. Our responsibility
and ministry as teachers and school
staff is not to act in place of a parent, but to provide a stabilizing force
for the time a child spends away from
home and in the classrooms of our
school and to assist parents in fulfilling their God given responsibility
Dr. Robert
Andrews
Deuteronomy 6:4-7 says,
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD
our God, the LORD is one.
Love the LORD your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with
all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be
upon your hearts. Impress them on
your children. Talk about them when
you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down
and when you get up.” These verses
clearly tell parents that in order to
teach their children they must spend
quality time with them. It tells us that
we should teach our children and
grandchildren diligently, when we are
at home and when we are away from
home, in the morning and in the evening. To accomplish this, parents are
to listen to their children, and when
they ask questions give them the
best answers they can think of based
on their own life experience and the
truths of God’s Word. Parents should
demonstrate to them that you have
an interest in their daily, often trivial,
experiences. And it is so important
not to stop this process when they
reach middle school or even high
school. In some ancient civilizations
someone was hired to make sure that
a child knew everything that the parents wanted them to know about life
and how to live it, a process that often
lasted until the individual was twenty
years old. How much more important
is the process of teaching our children their responsibility to God, and
to continue until they are independent and away from our influence.
Nothing can be substituted for the
real time that a parent chooses to
spend with their child throughout their
childhood. Reality is however, that as
our children grow and develop, many
other people begin to provide much
influence on their lives, not the least
of which are their teachers at school.
The partnership that exists between
our school and the parents of our
school in fulfilling these principles
must consistently shape and guide
each student’s development if we are
to “impress” on them the commandments of God, at home, at school,
and throughout the day.

2015 SUMMER IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
At FCS, every family contributes to the on-going improvements that are made each year on our
campus during the summer. These improvements range from the interior of classrooms, offices,
and common facilities to the exterior development and landscaping of our common areas on the
campus.
This past summer our staff was very busy and we were able to complete many projects
throughout the short summer weeks. Many of the things that were accomplished can only be
done in the summer when the buildings are not occupied and the number of people on campus
is low. Once again this past summer each classroom was painted, carpets were deep cleaned,
and minor repairs were made on all those things that needed attention. In addition, the following
projects were accomplished:
• On the West Campus, the main restrooms were completely renovated as we continue the project to update all of our campus restrooms.
• The Main Campus office facility was completely updated from top to bottom including new flooring, a new counter, and new decor all designed to make a good First Impression for visitors and to provide to our families a front office facility that we all can be proud of.
• We also began the updating and change for campus common areas that included the
addition of coordinated benches, tables and umbrellas for our students and
parents to enjoy in the common areas on the main campus.
• The beautification project of our campus also continued during the summer months with additional landscaping throughout the campus. Also during the summer months the athletic fields are refurbished getting ready for the non-stop use during the school year.
We thank our families for their committment to FCS and all of those on our maintenance staff who
worked hard all summer to make this a summer of significant improvements.

SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS WEEK
Spiritual Emphasis Week is a time set aside to attend a
chapel service each day and focus on a specific theme.
A time of musical worship is
held and a special guest
speaker delivers the message each day.
This year, our guest speaker was Pastor Anthony
Spallone and our worship
leader was FCS Graduate
Mrs. Genie Mokher Uribe.
Anthony Spallone was born
in Augsburg, Germany as
both his parents were in
the U.S. Army. At the age
of seven, his family moved
to Miami, FL. They did not
go to church or have a relationship with Jesus.
As a freshman at Miami
Sunset Senior High, he began attending Christ Fellowship Palmetto Bay with
his family, but it wasn’t until
right before his senior year
of high school on a retreat
with Pastor Eric Geiger
that he repented of his sin
and trusted in Christ for the
first time. After that, Anthony became one of the wrestling coaches at Florida Christian School under Charlie
Zies for a short time.
9
He was able to marry his beautiful bride, Lauren, at the
age of 21, and he still isn’t sure how he convinced her
to marry him. He eventually became the Youth Pastor
at Christ Fellowship West Kendall for about four years,
and ministered to many students who attended Florida
Christian. During this time, he finished his B.A. in Theology at Liberty University Online.
In 2012, after much prayer, he and his wife moved to
Oxford, England so he could work on his Masters in
Theology. They to Miami a couple of years ago to start
Christ Fellowship Miami Beach. They currently reside
on South Beach, enjoy watching a good indie movie,
and talking about the history of ideas and culture as it
relates to the Gospel. It’s all about Jesus!

“OBEDIENCE”
Students who made a positive impact in the first quarter were students who demonstrated the trait
of Obedience. These students are cooperative, helpful and follow directions carefully. They have
a teachable spirit and become leaders in the classroom by their dependability. Obedient students
enable themselves and others to excel by their willingness to do what is right all the time. The
students earn the trust of their teachers and peers by their consistent, positive behavior.
If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by
obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a
dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you. - I Kings 11:38

FREE AND FEARLESS 5K RUN
by: Yuliana Romero - 11th Grade
Miami is third in the nation in human trafficking. Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. Victims
of human trafficking are young children, teenagers, and adults. Many victims of human trafficking are
made to engage in prostitution, pornography, and to endure physical and psychological abuse.
Free & Fearless 5k, sponsored by TheBeautifulProject.net, is about becoming the rescue. In our city,
lives are being stolen and this was our opportunity to run for the freedom of hundreds of thousands of
lives who need intervention and to #enditnow. We were invited as a city to stand together…runners,
activists, enthusiasts, civilians, men, women, children…as we ran to help others become fearless.
Florida Christian participated in the Free and Fearless 5k run held the morning of October 31st at
Tropical Park. The following Patriots participated in the run: Mr. & Mrs. James Erwin & family, Emelie
Garcia, Melanie Garcia, Justin Nunez, Megan Nunez, Sheridon Ouma, Yliana Romero and Shannon
Rowsey.

FREE AND FEARLESS 5K RUN (continued)
by: Yuliana Romero - 11th Grade
The Free and Fearless 5K Run was well-organized and very well-attended. At 6:45am, runners,
volunteers and family members warmed up by doing zumba to a Marc Anthony song. A speaker from
the Miami Dade Police Department talked to us about what human trafficking really is, how Miami
Dade Police is affected by it, and how they would like to make a difference to stop human trafficking.
MDPD was so thankful and excited for us to run. A group of coaches showed us how to stretch on
stage for the race and by 7:30am, the race began. There was also a 5k run for children. Everyone
loved this race and had a great time.

“Do The Right Thing” Program Nominees (continued from previous page)
October Nominees (L to R): Michael Morales, Aliya Acosta
Don’t let Aliya Acosta’s tiny physique fool you- she is a powerhouse full of energy, talent and
kindness. Aliya has been in competitive gymnastics from a young age, earning several first place
positions. Aliya’s gymnastics takes up most of her afternoons and evenings, and all Saturday
mornings. When Aliya gets home, she completes her homework and studies for test. She is in
the Honors Program at Florida Christian School, which has a rigorous academic program. Despite
a very full schedule, Aliya finds the time to play with her younger brother Lukas. Lukas’ speech
was delayed when he was young, and this impacted his ability to regulate his emotions well. Aliya
spends time trying to talk him through moments when Lukas becomes particularly frustrated. Aliya
is actively involved in a monthly ministry to take food and supplies to immigrant and low income
families in Homestead. Aliya has done face painting and performed in skits to share her faith with
these families. Aliya’s smile and joie d’ vivre come make her a radiant candidate for “Do the Right
Thing.”
Michael Morales has been playing soccer since he was four years old. His father, Giovanni,
left Cuba to live in Costa Rica and there he developed a love for the sport and began to play
professionally. Unfortunately, Giovanni began to smoke and had to stop playing because this habit
compromised his health. Michael’s dad wanted him to ‘pick up the ball’ where he left off. Michael
lives in West Miami and travels after school to Sunrise, where he is part of a competitive soccer
league. Michael will be moving to Madrid, Spain shortly to play professionally. While in the process
of getting everything ready to leave for Spain, Michael’s grandfather had a stroke. Michael has
helped as his caregiver since the grandfather is in a wheelchair and requires assistance in everyday
activities. Michael’s two older sisters, both graduates of FCS, will remain in Miami to help take care
of their grandfather. Michael’s desire to make a difference extends to his team players. Michael is
the first to arrive to soccer and the last to leave because he coaches the other team players so they
can improve their skillset. Michael is on a campaign to help people stop smoking. He tells kids and
adults alike that if you wish to see your children grow up, you need to quit! Michael took on his dad’s
challenge and has been “Doing the Right Thing” everywhere he goes!

HOLY LAND TRIP
Each year, Mr. Fernando Mesa, FCS Bible Teacher, organizes the 8th Grade field trip to the
Holy Land in Orlando, Florida. The students, chaperones, and teachers have a fantastic
experience stepping back in time. Below is an inspiring narrative written by Mr. Mesa
including thoughts shared by current and past students about the impact this trip had on
them.
8th Grade Class at The Holy Land, Orlando, FL
Written by Mr. Fernando Mesa:
On Friday, October 9, 2015, the 8th grade took their class field trip to the Holy Land Experience in
Orlando, Florida. Gianni De Santino, states, “Holy Land was an experience of a life time. I just wish
we could go back and do it all over again.”
The Holy Land Experience is both a theme park and a biblical museum, where you will discover the
amazing history of the Bible. It’s a place that takes you back in time not only to see, but experience
life in biblical times. The Holy Land features several exhibits and presentations that revolve around
Old and New Testament themes such as the Jerusalem street market. The employees wear
costumes from that period of time, such as Roman soldier garb or coarse-robes.
You can experience the Wilderness Tabernacle, which brings to life the history of the Old Testament
sacrificial system and its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ; you have a unique opportunity to
partake in the Holy Communion, in a setting reminiscing the Last Supper; explore the Jerusalem
Model “the world’s largest indoor model of Jerusalem AD 66,” in which the layout and significance
of Israel’s capital city is detailed, “it is breath taking,” claimed Juan-Carlos Mereles; you can take a
journey of the living Word in The Scriptorium, which traces the story of the Bible from its origins to

modern times illustrated with the amazing collection of manuscripts and scrolls. “It amazes me just
to know how God throughout so many years has preserved His Word,” exclaims Madison Estape.
The students even get the opportunity to karaoke to Christian music. Eric Estape, states, “I was
able to spend time with family, friends, and make memories that would last a life time.” Rebecca
Menendez follows and states, “this was a class trip I will never forget.”
The Holy Land also puts on live shows that demonstrate the love and grace of God as well
as His mercy and forgiveness. For example, the “Ancient Festivals of the Biblical World,” in
this live presentation in the Temple of the Great King we learn how the feast of Trumpets, the
Atonement and Tabernacles all foreshadow the second coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ, you
will experience the power and passion of the re-enactments of Jesus’ ministry, His life, death, and
resurrection. Presented with all the passion, excitement, and energy you have come to expect from
The Holy Land Experience, “Forgiven” is sure to move you as you come face to face with God’s
mercy and grace. You will experience the life of King David as he faces one of his defining moments
as he turns from God’s will to the arms of Bathsheba. Experience the powerful story of Hosea, the
prophet chosen by God to pour out love on an unloving woman. Finally, hear the Apostle Paul tell
his own story as he shares the secret of his “thorn in the flesh.” “Forgiven, helped me understand
how great God’s love is,” expressed Keilah Serralta. The Four Women Who Loved Jesus, you will
meet four women who share a deep bond of love for the Lord Jesus. Through this drama you will
gain valuable insight into the scriptures as you explore their lives, and learn how each one has been
forever changed by her loving Savior as they express “…Why I Love Him.”
Finally, you will be transformed as you experience the Crucifixion of Jesus. The crucifixion of Jesus
was so moving and realistic that it will bring you to tears. The re-enactment is so real that you feel
as if you went back in time and witnessed it. “I was amazed when I actually saw the life of Jesus.
It truly brought me to tears,” said Madison Estape. Matthew Fernandez, states, “the re-enactments
were awesome and spoke to me as you witnessed what He suffered.” Keilah Serralta, states. “It’s
an amazing place not only because of the visuals, but the meaning that the events expressed, Holy
32
HOLY LAND TRIP (continued)
Land left me in awe seeing God’s glory.” Gaby Valencia further adds, “This unique theme park
brings the world of the Bible to life, and the experience was great, everyone should go.”
Even our past students have had a share of their experiences at The Holy Land Experience.
Jackie Khoury, states. “I think that everyone who goes will come back changed.” The Holy Land
was a great way to see Jesus’ life,” said, Bismarie Plasencia. Spending a day at The Holy Land
Experience will satisfy your spiritual appetite, an unforgettable experience, “It really reaches out
to you.” thought Veronica Williams. “I became closer to God,” says Jackie Perez. “It was one of
the greatest experiences that I have ever had,” stated Neelan Jayakumar. “Holy Land was an
opportunity for God to teach me something new,” exclaimed Max Mattos.
The trip was an educational, emotional and spiritual event for all who participated, “as an 8th class,
we were able to enjoy and relive many of the grace and gospel-filled Bible stories,” said, Rebecca
Menendez. “My favorite time of the Holy Land Experience field trip is watching the re-enactment of
the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection account performed by the actors at the Holy Land. The way
the actors played their parts made the Bible come alive.” States Madison Estape. Parents, students
and teachers alike are moved to tears, while watching how Jesus suffered the cruelty of the cross
to pay the price for the sins of the world. It was a time of personal reflection and recommitment
to follow and serve Jesus. He died for me, the least I can do is live for Him,” said Mr. Mesa. Mrs.
Wicks, states, “A trip to the Holy Land is hopefully a spiritual journey as well as a time of bonding
and fun for parents, students and teachers. I always come away with a deeper understanding and
love for Christ and what he has done for me as my Savior. We hope our students will be inspired
and motivated by what they experience on this trip to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; To God be the glory!” Eric Estape added, “Holy Land showed
through the different drama’s how much God loves us.”
In conclusion, Mr. Mesa believes that, “The Holy Land
experience has impacted the lives of students, parents
and teachers. A trip as such should stir a great hunger
and passion to know the Lord in a more intimate way.
This experience teaches the viewers about Jesus and
how He carried about His evangelistic life. Holy Land
draws people to a better understanding of the times,
culture and how deep and personally God is involved
in history. Carolina Ledon, exclaimed, “I love the fact
that they are teaching other to know and believe in
God.” Our prayer is that through these experiences
students and parent’s lives will be impacted and
transformed. It is our desire that the purpose of the
trip, which is to learn more about the truths of God,
and deepen their relationship with the Lord will arouse
more of a desire to personally commit their lives to
God as He reveals Himself in a unique way to the
individual.” “I would encourage everyone to go and
see what Christ went through for us, a life changing
experience,” said Matthew Fernandez.

A “CHEEKY” SCIENCE EXPERIMENT
Students in Mrs. Melanie Hopkin’s Honors Anatomy classes performed an experiment which allowed
each student to see individual cells taken from inside his/her own cheek.
Using a flat toothpick, the students swabbed the inside of their cheeks and then swabbed the toothpick onto a glass slide. The students then put a drop of water and a drop of blue dye on the slide. A
second slide was placed on top and the students viewed their cells through a microscope. The cells
were so detailed, even the nuclei were easy to see. Fascinating!

ELEMENTARY NEWS
Maria Lehnhard, Elementary Principal
September 11th is a special day in our country and we commemorate this day with
special chapels and assemblies. We are careful to relate the terrorist attack events
that took place in 2001at the World Trade Center and other sites, but always thanking
God for His protection and sovereignty. Our school has named this day “American
Christian Heritage Day”. The west campus students sing patriotic songs and talk about
the Christian roots of America. We aim to instill and preserve the spirit of patriotism that
Americans felt on 9/11/2001. America was founded under God and His principles and we
at FCS will continue to carry on the Christian principles that made America great.
God Bless America!
