MUSIC, HISTORY, ART & CULTURE
SHOP
www.VisitGlendale.com
Historic Downtown Glendale has been named by USA Today and Sunset
Magazine as one of the country’s 10 best places for shopping. In fact,
Historic Downtown Glendale is actually two shopping districts - Historic
Catlin Court with its white picket fences and mature shade trees
welcoming visitors to the Bungalows-turned-specialty shops, and Old
Towne, boasting brick-trimmed sidewalks and gaslights leading the way
to the famous stores. The two districts span 10 square blocks, which
can easily be strolled in an afternoon. Another popular attraction is
Cerreta Candy Company. The owners delight
in giving tours Monday through Thursday,
during which visitors receive samples of
delicious chocolate.
Shoppers can also delight at one of the
region’s largest malls – the beautifully
designed Arrowhead Towne Center.
Conveniently located just off the Loop 101
freeway, the mall features water fountains,
a movie theater and more than 170 shops
and restaurants. This mall also has spurred
the successful development of the Arrowhead
Entertainment District, which is now home to
more than 100 restaurants. Find the upscale
and hip by heading to Glendale’s northern shopping corridor including
the Citadelle Plaza. Boutique clothing stops and spas are the scene here.
Glendale’s Sports and Entertainment District,
located at Glendale Avenue and Loop 101,
redefines dining and nightlife. Often labeled the
Times Square of the Desert, visitors will enjoy
an array of shops and restaurants. The outdoor
enthusiast won’t want to miss Cabela’s – the
world’s foremost outfitter, located near the
University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale,
AZ. In addition to offering quality outdoor
merchandise, the 160,000-squarefoot showroom is an educational and
entertainment attraction, featuring a
décor of museum-quality animal displays,
huge aquariums and trophy animals in
realistic re-creations of their natural habitats.
And the newest addition, Tanger Outlet
Westgate featuring 85 brand-name stores
in an open-air mall.

ADVENTURE
www.VisitGlendale.com/outdoor
Glendale is
a playground for the outdoor and
athletic enthusiast. We welcome
you to enjoy the miles of trails
and acres of parks that Glendale
has to offer. Love to hike? Then
you’ll love Glendale. The city offers
approximately 40 miles of hiking
trails open from sunrise to sunset.
Trails are expansive and not very
demanding. Trails include Skunk
Creek Linear Park (a 3.5-mile linear
trail that connects to Thunderbird
Paseo Path), Thunderbird Park (a series of trails that spans 20 miles),
Bridle Path (a 9-mile trail over a decomposed granite path meant for
equestrian use), Thunderbird Paseo Path (a 4-mile long linear trail),
and the Grand Canal Linear Park (a 3.25-mile long linear trail). Cyclists
looking for bike trails will find more than 100 miles of bike routes in
Glendale. Cyclists will enjoy the Grand Canal Linear Park, Sahuaro
Ranch Park and Thunderbird Paseo Park. The city also hosts the
Annual Glendale Family Bike Ride as a way to promote families to
ride their bikes.
Thunderbird Conservation Park
This 1,185-acre park is dedicated to preserving the native desert
environment. The hills were named for Robert Hedgpeth, an early
homesteader in the area, and the park took its name from the former
World War II pilot training facility once located four miles to the south.
Park activities include picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, mountain
biking, jogging and bird watching. The park also boasts nearly 20 miles
of multi-use trails built with the efforts of many volunteer groups.
Open daily from sunrise to sunset. The main entrance is at 59th Avenue
between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads.
Xeriscape Botanical Garden
Visit this award-winning garden, which features
approximately 1,000 trees, shrubs, cactus and
more. Listening wands can be checked out inside
the library for a self-guided garden tour. Plants
are identified by common and botanical names.
Many are low-water use and excellent for Arizona
gardens. Free landscaping brochures are available
inside the library. Open from dawn to dusk. 5959 W.
Brown, 623-930-3596.
SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

University of Phoenix Stadium
www.uopstadium.com
Alien technology, state-of-the-art architecture,
call it what you want, but our stadium, home
to the Arizona Cardinals, is the coolest national
sports facility around. A perfect marriage of
liquid and steel, this one-of-a-kind sporting venue is the first on the
continent to feature both a retractable roof and retractable playing
field. Designed by world-renowned architect Peter Eisenman to mimic
the sections of the native barrel cactus, the stadium fits together like a
pleasing Sonoran puzzle and showers the interior with the perfect dose
of natural light.
Public tours are available of this architectural wonder. A Super Bowl
in 2015, WrestleMania XXVI, the annual Fiesta Bowl as well as a
BCS Championship—this
stadium continues to turn
heads from all corners
of the earth, and roaring
fans and growling linemen
will echo in the desert for
generations. 1 Cardinals Drive.
Jobing.com Arena
www.jobingarena.com
Not many venues can be all
things to all people, but the award-winning Jobing.com Arena is a bold
exception to that type of thinking. Born Dec. 27, 2003, to a howling
house of rabid Coyotes hockey fans, the arena has been heralded by
headline performers like U2, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney
and named best new major concert venue by Pollstar magazine, a major
concert industry publication.
Showcasing state-of-the-art video technology, a pulsating sound
system and seating arrangements that guarantee clear views from
all points, the facility has been an ideal host for everything from
intimate, rare acoustic performances to chart-topping, televised
concert extravaganzas. And to top things off, it also just happens
to be
home to the NHL Phoenix Coyotes. 9400 W. Maryland Ave.
Camelback Ranch Glendale
www.camelbackranchbaseball.
com
Located just across the Loop
101 from Glendale’s Sports
and Entertainment District, this
baseball facility home of the Los
Angeles Dodgers and Chicago
White Sox boasts a 10,000-seat
stadium, with 3,000 lawn seats, 118,000
square feet of major and minor league
clubhouse space, four major league practice
fields and eight minor league practice fields.
This takes peanuts and Crackerjacks to a whole
new level. 10710 W. Camelback Road.
